Given the nature of live service titles it's possible that Babylon's Fall could see a phoenix-style resurrection with some rebalancing, but somehow, we doubt it. Hopefully this absolute misfire doesn't signal a profound change in direction for Platinum Games; this title had a troubled conception and it shows, but rather than iterate on things, we'd rather see a return to single player dominance. There's just nothing about Babylon's Fall that warrants going back to the drawing board. Except for that fantastic boss battle in which you race the Batmobile against those jorts-clad pink elephants. Oh wait, that was just a dream we had when the game put us to sleep.

WWE 2K22 è un rilancio riuscito a metà: da una parte sono indubbi i miglioramenti apportati al gameplay, che risulta più immediato e divertente rispetto al passato, dall'altra permangono alcuni problemi legati alle collisioni e all'intelligenza artificiale. Cimentarsi con le singole esibizioni e sfruttare così l'ampio roster per dar vita a match singoli si rivela piacevole, ma per godere di un'esperienza strutturata, sebbene poco originale, bisogna puntare sulla modalità Universe. Le altre opzioni purtroppo deludono: dallo Showcase breve, guidatissimo e vincolato alle contraddizioni de Il Mio GM, alla lentezza de La Mia Ascesa. In definitiva, i miglioramenti ci sono ma non aspettatevi una rivoluzione: per quella, ormai è chiaro, bisognerà attendere un passaggio di testimone.

There’s a very interesting game floating somewhere in Breathedge’s debris field. A comedy-focused, tightly constructed version of what you get here could have stood shoulder to shoulder with the likes of The Stanley Parable even, letting the player in on the joke and using that to elevate a stable but stagnant genre of survival sim. Unfortunately, Breathedge runs amok with its premise, tripping over itself to make cringey jokes and press the player into unengaging systems. You might get a good laugh out of Breathedge but I’m going to become the Joker if I have to think about it again.

Babylon's Fall per ora è questo: una buona idea, realizzata con esiti disastrosi. Il tocco di Platinum Games è ai suoi minimi storici, ravvisabile appena nel sistema di combattimento originale (ma mal implementato nella struttura complessiva) e nelle medaglie assegnate al completamento di ogni area piena zeppa di nemici. Chiaramente qualcosa è andato storto, gli sviluppatori hanno lavorato in modo assai svogliato; l'aggiunta di un "live service" sensato solo per i giocatori paganti, poi, ha fatto il resto. Babylon's Fall è divertente per qualche ora, ma presto mostra tutti i propri limiti: tecnici, strutturali, nel bilanciamento e nella progressione. Lo ripetiamo: "per ora" è questo, domani non si sa. È forse ancora possibile selezionare singoli aspetti, i più carenti, per renderli accettabili o almeno funzionali. Certo non si potrà salvare tutto. La Torre di Babele sta insomma cadendo a pezzi, forse anzi è già caduta. Per fortuna il disastro conta appena poche vittime, gli acquirenti incauti. Tutti gli altri si sono già voltati dall'altra parte.
