Without the unique interpretation and translation of combat, Fallen Flag should already take comfort in the knowledge that their crafted series of boss fights are at least visually and mechanically-attractive enough to warrant a punishing trudge through to the credits screen. But it’s the way gameplay and control of such is orchestrated where Eldest Souls‘ appeal — and ultimately its fulfillment on one of this year’s more inventive takes on boss rush titles — is realized. Strange as it may look from the outside to confine a once-free flowing style of real-time combat to this stop-start, tactical alternative. But Eldest Souls orchestrates the right kind of difficulty curve — that only grow in both intensity and complexity — with a plentiful amount of twists and turns that are sure to trip players up, but immediately pull them back in. Even as the death count just keeps racking up higher and higher. It’s one thing to craft a game with such an entertaining yet punishing series of fights. It’s another to do so with the kind of design philosophy that’s so quick to convince it more than deserves its rightful place. But that’s exactly what Fallen Flag have achieved with seemingly impeccable ease here. Bold, brilliant and consistently surprising throughout, Eldest Souls’ fresh approach to combat marks one of 2021’s real gems.

F1 2021 is still one of the best simcade racers on the market. Some of the kinks from the past games still haunt the series, even more so with the Next-Gen versions having lots of bugs but still, there’s nothing like the Formula One game being the gold standard for a licensed racing title.

As narrative adventures go, Last Stop is easily one of the best I’ve played. From setting and characters, to story and presentation, it is a joy to experience from start to finish. Whether you’re a Game Pass subscriber or not, this is one title not to miss out on.

A thoroughly entertaining mix of Dark Souls and Zelda that has few genuinely new ideas but still manages to enthral with a unique charm of its own.

Though it wears its overly obvious influences on its sleeve, Eldest Souls is an incredibly satisfying boss rush that still manages to set itself apart. Its brilliant combat is complimented by a smart skill system and some incredible pixel art. Designed with replayability in mind, it’s a little bit of a bummer that its impressive customization doesn’t really blossom until partway into your first playthrough. But one thing that’s there from the start is that feeling of immense glory after every hard-earned victory: Ceremoniously slumping onto the living room floor, clutching the carpet for dear life with one hand while exhaustedly flipping off the television with the other.

Una más que grata sorpresa. Un primer episodio con una identidad propia que da el pistoletazo de salida a Horror Tales. Historia jugosa, apartado técnico sobresalienta y una capacidad de producir terror y ansiedad en el jugador muy díficil de encontrar en el mercado.

Horror Tales: The Wine ofrece una de las experiencias indies más originales en cuanto a ambientación y temática. Sus entornos diurnos, son una delicia que invitan a la exploración, pero sin confiarte demasiado, pues los sustos están estudiados concienzudamente para hacerte saltar de la silla en cuanto menos te lo esperes. Es un juego corto pero intenso, con puzles muy ajustados para no frustrar la experiencia, convirtiéndolo en una propuesta perfecta para todos los públicos. Esta primera entrega de la trilogía Horror Tales nos ha dejado muy buen sabor de boca y tenemos mucha curiosidad por qué lugares nos llevará Carlos Coronado en las próximas entregas The Beggar y The Astronaud. Esperamos tener noticias muy pronto.

Alors que l’été est très souvent un moment de creux pour les joueurs, celui de cette année 2021 n’est pas en reste et détient très certainement sa perle de la période estivale avec Death’s Door. Se rapprochant davantage d’un Zelda-like que d’un Souls ou d’une roguelite/roguelike, le titre, développé par Acid Nerve, est parvenu à nous conquérir sur quasiment tous les points : que ce soit via sa direction artistique sublime, son gameplay maîtrisé, son OST d’un pur plaisir pour les oreilles et la construction de son univers minimaliste, fun et plein d’humour. C’est tout autant équilibré que bien rythmé. Le point négatif : la légèreté de propositions pour les améliorations de notre cher Faucheur, mais c’est assez compréhensif au vu de la direction souhaitée des développeurs pour Death’s Door. Rien qu’avec le macaron disposé à côté de cette conclusion, vous l’aurez compris, mais disons le une fois de plus : Death’s Door est un véritable coup de cœur pour votre fidèle servante, qui ne peut que vous conseiller de partir à l’assaut de ce monde enchanteur et qui ne vous laissera probablement pas de marbre.
