Da amante dei manga seinen investigativi e fresco del remake dei primi Famicom Detective Club, ammetto che con me Emio - L'uomo che sorride aveva gioco facile, e infatti me lo sono goduto dall’inizio alla fine sapendo fin dall’inizio che non c’era poi ‘sto granché da fare lato interazione. Di contro, per quanto personaggi e racconto siano ben scritti, a tratti mostrano il fianco ai limiti quasi endemici del genere peccando di ingenuità, e in generale se non amate le visual novel difficilmente troverete pane per i vostri denti.

Emio - The Smiling Man has been hyped up a little too much in terms of how dark in tone the whole thing is. This is still silly, kooky stuff, just like its predecessors. The sometimes frustrating core mechanics also haven't seen any refinement this time around, which is a shame. And so it's left to some top-notch writing to save the day, which it just about does. Once this troubling and intriguing story has its hooks in you (remember there are three demos to try if you're unsure), it's hard to put down. And that, at the end of the day, is all Tantei Club fans will be looking for.

Se avesse avuto un budget maggiore e uno sviluppatore più esperto, Visions of Mana sarebbe stato un autentico capolavoro: invece è soltanto un ottimo titolo dai limiti appariscenti e per questo anche più frustranti. L'immaginario di Seiken Densetsu trova in questa iterazione una delle sue espressioni migliori, grazie a una direzione artistica di assoluto valore e a una narrativa riuscita. Scivola su un sistema di combattimento forse troppo ricco per le ambizioni contenute di Ouka Studios, che non è riuscito ad amalgamare alla perfezione tutti gli elementi in gioco. La strada tracciata però è quella giusta: ora serve solo percorrerla, affinarla e investire con fiducia sul suo futuro.

Benché il nuovo sistema di classi abbia indubbiamente contribuito a svecchiare un minimo la formula del prodotto, la nuova “visione” di Square Enix continua a risultare troppo ancorata alle tradizioni della longeva saga nipponica, che quest'anno ha celebrato il suo trentatreesimo anniversario. È soprattutto sul piano narrativo che Visions of Mana fatica a convincere, in quanto il titolo ingrana la giusta marcia solo nelle fasi molto avanzate dell’avventura e che temiamo possano raggiungere soltanto i fan più nostalgici della serie. Il tutto è infine aggravato da una serie di imperfezioni tecniche che ci auguriamo vengano limate attraverso apposite patch.

The beauty of Gundam Breaker is that you don't need to be a fan of the larger Gundam franchise to get plenty of enjoyment out of it. It scratches the itch of an action game and a loot game all in one, and I can't seem to get enough. At heart, it's still a game all about making the wackiest robot you can that still absolutely shreds through enemies, and I think that's amazing.

Star Wars: Outlaws introduces players to a vast open world where they can truly live in the Star Wars universe. Following the journey of Kay Vess the game excels in exploration, combat, and its unique reputation system. While the narrative has its shortcomings, especially in character development, Outlaws remains an engaging and expansive adventure for fans of the franchise.

Age of Mythology era un ottimo gioco nel 2002 e lo è rimasto anche dopo più di vent'anni; anzi, in realtà direi che è ancora perfettamente giocabile e godibile pure nella sua versione originale. Retold, però, indubbiamente aggiunge alcuni graditi miglioramenti nei comandi, nell'interfaccia e in termini di accessibilità, oltre che ovviamente nella grafica, e se questo non significa che è fondamentale possederlo per chi ha una qualsiasi delle precedenti edizioni, si tratta comunque del modo più semplice e moderno per accedere a un grande classico della strategia in tempo reale, che merita assolutamente di essere rigiocato o scoperto per la prima volta se siete fra coloro che non hanno mai vissuto le avventure di Arkantos e compagni.

The Castlevania Dominus Collection continues to illustrate why this franchise is so beloved thanks to a compilation of some truly excellent action RPG experiences from the DS that have been translated elegantly and meticulously. Additionally, the inclusion of a neglected arcade entry as well as a full remake is perfect for preservation and amassing newer fans. When also taking the numerous settings, customization options, and extra features into account, this truly is a must-play package for everyone, regardless of one's history with the Castlevania IP.

Visions of Mana finally brings the long-dormant classic RPG series into the modern age, looking great and playing even better thanks to multi-layered class and skill systems that interact in clever ways. There are definitely some pacing issues and a few questionable design choices later on, and the occasional framerate drop or awkward lipsyncing can distract. But the flashy and exciting combat, deeply rewarding class system, and cast of likable characters make Visions of Mana a winning comeback for the classic series all the same – and a great game even if you haven’t spent decades waiting for it.

Visions of Mana is a rollercoaster of emotions. The team under Square Enix has made a beautiful game with a solid mechanical foundation. But the balance of the game has been somewhat out of whack. What’s here is not bad, just unpolished and a bit lacking. Visions of Mana is worth your time if the issues mentioned with combat and story won’t be an issue for you. Maybe try it on a harder setting. At the very least, I recommend trying the free demo on every platform as that will give you a feel for how the game controls and feels. Visions of Mana is solid but doesn’t quite reach the heights it aimed for.

As a nostalgia-driven retread of the classic Mana adventure, Visions of Mana is rock solid — but it struggles to be anything more than a reminder of how magical those old RPGs could be. If you can look beyond the game's monotonous storytelling and tragically bland characters, the essence of an old-school excursion is here, in the exploration of wonderful environments and in battles against burly boss monsters.
