With creepy puzzle moments throughout, The Medium pulls off a dual-reality puzzler with precision. The game looks magnificent, with impressive lighting and shadows courtesy of RTX, though the Xbox Series X version suffers from occasional stutters and hitches, as well as level of detail pops. More classic dread than jump scares, it delivers on its promise of horror served two ways, making it unique and a must-have for horror fans, even if it's a little lighter fare.

Welch’ schöner Zufall: Ein paar Tage nach unserem PUR-Talk über drei Meilensteine der Arcade-Action erscheint der Nachfahre meines Lieblings Pang nochmal auf Modul für die Switch. Ich hatte den leidlich hübschen, aber doch launigen Titel schon auf PS4 vor ein paar Jahren durchgezockt – und auch jetzt auf dem Nintendo-Hybriden kam sofort wieder Spielspaß auf. Das Prinzip ist im besten Sinne unverwüstlich – knifflige Blasenformationen mit klugem Itemeinsatz eliminieren macht mir fast so viel Laune wie vor über 20 Jahren in der Spielhalle. Pastagames liefert eine schnörkellose Neuinterpretation mit gelungener Steuerung, aber zu geringem Umfang ab, die natürlich gewinnt, wenn man kooperativ auf Blasenjagd geht. Noch ein Wort zur Grafik: Die hat mich zwar nicht davon abgehalten, Spaß mit Pang Adventures zu haben – es war aber knapp. Denn den Look finde ich wirklich grässlich. Ach ja: Gefällt euch Pang Adventures oder das Spielprinzip per se, riskiert ruhig einen Blick auf The Bug Butcher, wo das Kugel-Konzept deutlich fetziger interpretiert wird.

Super Meat Boy Forever is a game that suffers from inconsistent difficulty and some counter-intuitive mechanics. While the cutscenes and bosses are charming as always, this is one game that die-hards of the previous installment might want to skip. It’s still a fun time for those willing to overlook its flaws, however.

Cyber Shadow is a wonderful merging of old-school aesthetic and modern design sensibilities, much like Shovel Knight was back in 2014. Sure, its story is forgettable and some of its checkpoint placements are far enough apart to make me hesitant to apply a “tough but fair” label without caveats, but the way it evolves and changes over the course of its seven to eight hour campaign thanks to excellent level, enemy, and progression design is exemplary. Combine that with what’s an early contender for best soundtrack of 2021, and it’s easy to see Cyber Shadow as the start of something great for both Mechanical Head Studios and Yacht Club Games.

Cyber Shadow è complessivamente un buon prodotto, e un discreto esordio per i giovani finlandesi di Mechanical Head; un action bidimensionale che rende dignitosamente omaggio ad una formula di gioco capace di ritagliarsi ancora uno spazio importante nel panorama videoludico odierno. La sua natura spiccatamente hardcore e la vena amarcord lo rendono un titolo probabilmente poco appetibile ad un pubblico di maggioranza, sicuramente gradevole per gli amanti delle vecchie esperienze arcade action-platform sul filo del game over. Peccato per l’assenza di quel guizzo ludo-stilistico in grado di farlo emergere, nonché della sua discutibile corsa ad un eccesso davvero non necessario.

Atelier Ryza 2 is an excellent entry in an item-crafting focused JRPG series. It improves on its predecessor via quality-of-life improvements, more in-depth character interactions and a sprawling story. Plus, it's absolutely adorable!

Hitman 3 is the ultimate Hitman experience, period. The game runs almost improbably crisp, and each location is a ton of fun to explore. Replayability is a must, but not just because of the brevity of the campaign, but because there is so much to do in each one. Adding the missions of yesteryear appends even more to the package, along with the ability to be the assassin in VR or take it on the go with Stadia or Switch. I could try and nitpick it for what it doesn’t do or where it comes up short (of which there’s almost nothing), but when it comes to being an early contender for Game Of The Year, Hitman 3 hits its target dead center.
