Wreckfest est une excellente surprise. À vrai dire, si on se souvient de l'excellent (et terriblement mésestimé) ONRUSH, cela fait deux fois que Koch Media nous surprend en sortant des jeux de course rafraîchissants. Le titre de stock-car est une réussite : drôle, varié, accessible, plus technique qu'il en a l'air... Il s'agit sûrement d'un des meilleurs jeux du genre sortis ces dernières années. Dommage que l'expérience pâtisse d'une technique un peu décevante sur console, mais surtout de temps de chargement assez fatigants (cela devient récurrent dans ce secteur, d'où l'absence de sanction). Pas de quoi bouder son plaisir !

River City Girls could have just been a fun retread of some arcade-style fighting with some good new stuff and some bad new stuff. To a degree, it is - there are bits here like the money system and the co-op that could have been a little less unfriendly to deal with. But with a hearty dose of style and some great writing, it lifts itself up into a great little retro-styled treat for the beat-em-up inclined. Maybe not for everyone, and especially if you’re not up for a challenge, but I sure had some fun.

Daymare 1998 s'inscrivant dans la continuité de la démo de Resident Evil 2, Invader Studios récite à la lettre leur leçon en offrant tout ce qu'on est en droit d'attendre d'un tel jeu. Malheureusement, si les italiens ont pensé à cocher toutes les cases du jeu miroir (dans la limite du budget alloué), ils ont un peu oublié de rajouter suffisamment de nouveautés et cette pincée d'originalité afin que le résultat ne s'enferme pas de lui même dans son statut d'oeuvre simplement référentielle. Intéressant donc pour celles et ceux qui attendraient des nouvelles du prochain remake de Capcom mais vite oubliable au final.

Despite the UI downers, I still found myself rather charmed with Bus Simulator. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and for that I admire it. The act of driving about the city is relaxing, planning routes and getting to know them is oddly fun, and managing the back end of the business can get quite deep. Even if you may not think it’s up your street, hop aboard one day and you might just be surprised.

Having a unique core mechanic is a great start, but finding a way to stretch it out over the entire course of a game is essential, and that’s where Creature in the Well can’t stick the landing. It offers a smart idea, but one in need of refinement.

Siamo pronti a scommettere che solo per il suo nome, giustamente ben studiato, Blasphemous venderà una certa quantità di copie. In realtà, al contrario di quanto si possa credere, il titolo di The Game Kitchen è meno blasfemo di quanto si possa immaginare, al netto di qualche scelta azzardata nella messa in scena, ma che noi abbiamo apprezzato dal punto di vista estetico. Narrativamente e stilisticamente si tratta di un'opera dal valore altissimo, impreziosita da un tono cupo e un adattamento in italiano come poche altre volte ci è capitato di vedere. Purtroppo il gameplay e la progressione della campagna non rispecchiano allo stesso modo questa bontà, traducendosi in un'offerta ludica poco appagante sul lungo periodo. Il team di sviluppo ha però tutte le carte in regola per crescere e prosperare in futuro.

Borderlands 3 si tuffa nell'eredità ludica della serie di cui rappresenta l'ultimo esponente, ci sguazza con fare divertito e si presenta sul mercato riproponendo meccaniche e strutture già rodate. Qualcuno direbbe che si tratta di un "more of the same", ma guai ad usare questa espressione con fare dispregiativo, come se il titolo fosse in qualche modo superato o stantio. La formula del looter-shooter di Gearbox funziona ancora oggi alla grande e mantiene una sua indiscutibile freschezza, anche grazie ai lavori di ammodernamento che ne amplificano le qualità. Il gameplay più scattante e dinamico, la varietà di armi elevata all'ennesima potenza, la caratterizzazione dei quattro Cacciatori della Cripta bastano a tratteggiare il profilo di uno sparatutto inarrestabile. Il sistema di sviluppo assuefacente guida il giocatore per tutta la trama principale, e lo porta direttamente ad un endgame che moltiplica senza fatica le ore di gioco. Si poteva sperare, a dirla tutta, in qualcosa di più su alcuni fronti: la sceneggiatura ha qualche tentennamento; il sistema di navigazione dei menù e l'interfaccia risultano indiscutibilmente superati; le aree aperte potevano essere sfruttate in maniera più intelligente, così da risultare più "vive", avvolgenti e quindi più piacevoli da esplorare. La saga può senza dubbio migliorare in questi ambiti, ma il terzo capitolo resta comunque encomiabile. È un titolo che punta tutto sul piacere e sulla tensione delle sparatorie, sull'intensificazione dei ritmi di gioco, sull'assortimento di armi, di ambienti, di approcci. Divertente da soli, esaltante con un gruppo di amici, Borderlands 3 è il grande ritorno che tutti aspettavamo: uno shooter irriverente, ricchissimo, e - nel senso più pieno del termine - esagerato.
