It would've been nice to get a naval strategy game that actually required tactical maneuvers, strategic attacks and retreats, and naval cat and mouse games between the different ship classes that was similar to real life. It would've also been nice to get an naval action game that made you feel like you were in control of a ship or a fleet taking on all comers with tight controls and excellent visuals. Unfortunately, Steel Horizon is a little bit strategy and a little bit real time action, but not even close to enjoyable in either category.

Cookie and Cream on the Nintendo DS is what you'd get if you did a mash-up with Wario Ware and a platformer. Many games throw in those touch-screen mini-games in between the platforming action; Cookie and Cream does both simultaneously. It's not overly tough to blow through from start to finish, but there's a lot of payoff for doing it all multiple times. And the multiplayer support isn't half bad either. Just make sure you have the tolerance for slide puzzles and microphone blowing.

Over the last two years, there hasn't been a single arcade shooter that competes with the Xbox 360's Geometry Wars. Super Stardust HD, however, changes that with its addictively satisfying mechanics, great visuals and tactical yet simplistic design. In truth, and I say this as a heavy duty Geometry Wars player myself, Super Stardust HD is not only just as good as Bizarre Creation's it's in many ways better.

The Darkness è un gioco particolare. Il suo scopo principale è quello di raccontare una storia. A fronte di questo, il gameplay perde spessore: l’impostazione da FPS è quasi una “maschera”, allineata con il contesto dipinto dal fumetto e magistralmente riproposto da Starbreeze, ma non troppo significante a causa di alcuni difetti che rendono l’esperienza ludica non troppo determinante, anche se corposa. Perché se da un lato è vero che The Darkness offre un sistema di gioco poliedrico, mutevole, vario, si deve ammettere che esso non trova un suo spazio: per l’assenza di un’IA decente l’opera del giocatore è quasi uno “sfogo”, che possa condurlo per mano e senza eccessive difficoltà verso la prossima scena interattiva. Certo si deve riconoscere alla trama di The Darkness l’indubbio pregio di commuovere, esaltare, entusiasmare, ma forse anche in questo campo chi è troppo avvezzo alle storie di “caduta e rivalsa” (o chi conosce il fumetto) potrebbe non trovare un prodotto eccellente, come ci è sembrato, dal punto di vista scenografico. Varrà comunque la pena, per l’indubbio merito artistico e tecnico, per la cura maniacale nel “confezionamento”, affrontare per una volta l’avventura di Jackie. Nelle dieci ore che saranno sufficienti per completarla si potrebbe trovare serio divertimento ed insolite emozioni. Tuttavia, una volta esaurito, il gioco avrà ben poco da offrire: non le subquest che tentano di sviare il procedere assai lineare, non i livelli di difficoltà più elevati, tantomeno la scarna modalità multiplayer potranno far resistere The Darkness nel tray della console. Resterà, bisogna ammetterlo, un’esperienza gradevole e non facile da dimenticare.

It still doesn¿t have Season or Franchise modes, and the game mechanics are enjoyable, but the PSP version of the game is overshadowed by its issues. The slowdown doesn¿t cripple the game, but it seriously hampers the fast paced action of the title. However, it still captures the big play moments that The Bigs was designed around, which is cool. If you¿re looking for an arcade twist on baseball, you might want to keep an eye out for The Bigs, just be prepared for some technical issues along the way.

Caratterizzato da una solida giocabilità ed un comparto tecnico più che accettabile lo shoot-em-up della Housemarque dona al giocatore carica adrenalinica ed azione “senza esclusione di colpi”. Una rara sorpresa per i tempi che corrono nel mondo videoludico, funestato dalla mancanza di idee e di spirito artistico. Questo gioco è una buona scelta sia per neofiti che amanti del genere.

Un titre fort sympathique que ce Bob L'Eponge Et Ses Amis : Attaque Sur L'Ile Du Volcan. Offrant un gameplay agréable, à défaut d'être vraiment original, il pourra tout à fait convenir aux petits fans de Bob et de sa clique, les plus âgés risquant sans doute d'en venir à bout trop rapidement.

So it’s a tricky spot that F-Zero X marks. It could be recommended as a great-feeling, tightly-controlled, fast-playing racing experience – which it is. But it can’t be ignored that its sequel GX is the superior experience, and, as it’s fully playable on the backwards-compatible Wii, we’d recommend finding a copy of it instead for first-time F-Zero initiates. Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time stand alone as timeless classics, adventures that should be experienced even though sequels like Sunshine and Twilight Princess have come along since. Star Fox 64 is still the high point of its franchise, as its follow-ups have failed to live up the standard it set in 1997. But F-Zero X isn’t in the same group as those other N64 VC releases. Its sequel did live up to its standard, and exceeded it – and in doing so rendered this release not quite obsolete, but at least much less desirable as an individual game. Don’t stray into the grey area of X, unless you’re an established fan from eight and a half years ago.

Taito¿s Arkanoid and Nintendo¿s Alleyway were considered the best of the Breakout cloning best¿but Nervous Brickdown may have to steal the crown. I definitely love the retro gameplay of Nervous Brickdown, and the style of each of the ten different levels (and their boss battles) are fantastic, fun nods to gaming¿s past ¿ wait until you zip through a Star Wars trench trying to defeat a very Andross-like head on the upper screen with your ball. But even with the variety of styles and level ideas, the fact that the gameplay doesn¿t change a whole lot makes the experience a little repetitive ¿ thanks to the cartridge save it¿s good for quick gameplay shots, but it doesn¿t do a great job holding attention for more than a few minutes at a time.
