For a game that gives us so much freedom to be exactly who we want to be via its superb customisation options, it’s odd that Saints Row itself struggles to forge its own identity when it comes to the types of wanton criminal activities it makes available to us. There’s definitely no shortage of shallow shoot ‘em up thrills to be had here, but it’s a very familiar and uninspired brand of sandbox fun that’s unlikely to wow anybody who’s played a Saints Row game before, much less a GTA. There are a few spectacular story moments and the city of Santo Ileso serves as a sprawling new playground full of surprisingly antiquated and non-interactive amusements, but the distinct lack of new gameplay ideas – and the frequency with which some of its least interesting ones are reused – means this Saints Row feels more like a repetitive retread than a proper reboot. It’s definitely a new gang of Saints, but they’re guilty of the same old sins.

Saints Row is a franchise I’ve really liked but never loved, at least before. This reboot is different though, and after 20 hours in a few days, I keep coming back for more. Once the game is out in full, I’ll gladly play it all again, and often, in co-op. It’s a big, over-the-top, extremely fun game and if they can sort out the bugginess quickly it’s an easy one to recommend.

Saints Row torna con un reboot poco ambizioso, ma certamente divertente. Le pretese sono poche e i risultati rispecchiano questo aspetto. Anacronistico nel design e leggero nella scrittura, il titolo di Volition non spicca sotto nessun aspetto, ma potrebbe saziare la fame di free roaming per quei giocatori all'acqua di rose che ancora oggi si divertono a giocare un GTA indietro di vent'anni.

Way of the Hunter ne sera probablement pas LE jeu de chasse de cet été. Si les premières heures sont plaisantes, que le didacticiel paraît clair, et qu’il est parfois agréable d’avoir eu enfin sa proie pour avancer, le titre se heurte à des lacunes concernant son accessibilité, ses divers choix de game design discutables, mais également une certaine frustration qui monte crescendo dans le gameplay. Le titre se dote également d’une classicité flagrante, qui l’empêche d’être au niveau de la concurrence, sans compter les nombreux bugs dont il dispose. Bienheureusement, le background proposé, la durée de vie, le multi ou encore la narration qui parvient à apporter un léger plus permet au titre de sortir la tête de l’eau, d’autant que l’immersion et le terrain de jeu immense proposés font le café. Un titre orienté chasse en monde ouvert à faire malgré tout en clair, mais que l’on conseillera plutôt à un public déjà expérimenté en la matière, au risque de passer un moment très mitigé et frustrant à souhait.

Il reboot di Saints Row offre un'esperienza divertente, resa ancor più varia dalle numerose Imprese Criminali e capace di elargire sorrisi, vista la presenza di folli armamenti da scoprire e Abilità fuori dall'ordinario. Oltre al viaggio di fratellanza alla base del racconto, il vero elemento che spinge a prolungare la permanenza a Santo Ileso è la sconfinata personalizzazione, che vi permetterà di avere l'ultima parola su look di personaggi, armi, auto e del QG dei Saints. Ancorata per certi versi a stilemi del passato, l'ultima fatica di Volition è affetta da alcune criticità sia sul fronte ludico che prettamente grafico e più in generale non riesce a far raggiungere nuove vette evolutive alla serie. Detto questo, se siete amanti del caos e dei viaggi criminali scanzonati e gestibili, preparatevi a concludere l'estate col botto.

As a reboot that is all about capturing the series’ spark all over again, it is immediately recognisable. Building the Saints from the ground up retreads gameplay and story that fans have experienced before. However, the bombastic spirit of the earlier generations’ stripped-back open-world antics is woefully undermined by a plague of bugs and an overwhelming sense of deja-vu. The older Saints titles have more arsenal, activities, and humour than this half-baked reboot.

Midnight Fight Express è un picchiaduro molto particolare che segue un po’ tutti gli elementi classici del genere, inclusa la possibilità di raccogliere armi da terra e affrontare tonnellate di avversari contemporaneamente, ma introduce abbastanza nuovi elementi da portare una ventata d’aria fresca di cui forse il genere aveva bisogno. La relativa scarsità di tipi differenti di avversari da affrontare non è sufficiente a rovinare un’esperienza di gioco in realtà adrenalinica e, soprattutto, soddisfacente.

Saints Row n’est pas vraiment ce que l’on peut appeler un redémarrage total de la saga, mais plutôt un soft-reboot : il s’apparente énormément à Saints Row The Third qui, même si apprécié, n’en demeure pas moins âgé d’une dizaine d’années. Dans les faits, cela se ressent et cette nouvelle aventure a encore du mal à s’imposer par sa technique, son gameplay ou sa créativité qui restent ancrés dans un certain immobilisme malgré quelques nouveautés : il s’agit toutefois d’un jeu d’action efficace qui ne se prend jamais au sérieux, plutôt drôle et au contenu sacrément généreux, ce qu’on ne pourra jamais lui reprocher. Volition livre au final du Saints Row 3 à la sauce far-west, ce qui reste appréciable sans casser trois pâtes à un pistolero.
