Grow Home is an absolute joy to play, and does everything right as a classic 3D platformer. The traversal mechanics are precise and easy to use, the collectathon is inherently fun and rewards the investment, and the gameworld is bright, colorful, and full of life. The polygonal design may leave much to be desired, and technical bugs take away from some of the game’s special moments; but overall, Grow Home achieves greatness with its excellent platforming mechanics and a gameworld begging to be scoured for secrets and collectibles.

WWE 2K16 is a big improvement on the previous installment. MyCareer mode has been vastly improved to make for a far more interesting and rewarding experience, and the Stone Cold Showcase mode is worth the price of admission alone. The in-ring action is better than ever with the biggest roster ever, smarter AI and further improved match pacing, as well as no load times between entrances. The three-man commentary team shakes things up a bit too, and so does the inclusion of Good ‘Ole JR in the Showcase mode, but they are as limited and scripted as always. Despite some flaws that have haunted the series for many years now, WWE 2K16 shows great improvement in the series and continues to set the standard for wrestling games. Now, if I could just get General Manager Mode back!

Although Xenoblade Chronicles is not without its flaws, the game is a solid new IP for Nintendo. Like many JRPG titles out there, the game reinvents how the RPG formula can work while making it familiar enough that any player can pick up the game and play. The story of Xenoblade Chronicles is one that must be experienced, not watched via YouTube. While you can certainly get your fill of the story that way, the experience of playing with the characters and seeing all their interactions with one another during gameplay is something that cannot be captured in a series of clips. For its memorable story, meme-worthy characters, and beautifully executed world and gameplay, I give Xenoblade Chronicles 3D a 10/10. This game is a must play for any JRPG enthusiast, and any North American players looking for a deep meaningful story.

A female assassin is in the lead. There are counter-acting female villains and the spunky brawling animations are sterling entertainment. Races are represented, too, in this Dickens-like story, which happens to feature Dickens. UbiSoft shows they can learn after the Unity gender uproar. At least in that one regard,Ubisoft has matured and evolved. But maybe we should expect the entirety of this tower-climbing, raiding, and fighting tentpole to mature and evolve as well. As it sits, Syndicate only has the depth of a grade school textbook, albeit with blood.

Guitar Hero Live needs a serious name change or a more enthralling “Live” mode, but makes for an otherworldly party game with its pick-up-and-play accessibility. I hope James and Lenny agree when I give Guitar Hero Live 8 out of 10 stars.

I have heard it said that Elite: Dangerous is a mile wide but an inch deep – and I feel that’s fairly accurate for describing how the game stands now. The sense of promise is almost tangible, but it feels like it is still not quite finished. I have never see-sawed between a 7 and an 8 star rating for a game as much as I did for this one because it has the potential for so much more.
