Soldier of Fortune: Payback has one thing going for it: excessive dismemberment. Everything else is standard stuff for a shooter. Yet, I must admit, that I get a guilty pleasure playing Payback. Though it's not a good game, it's still fun to see body parts fly. If that doesn't interest you, there is an option to turn down the gore. That, however, takes away the only interesting thing Solider of Fortune: Payback has to offer. Still, Payback isn't a good game. If you are hoping for a return to the glory days of the older PC versions, you are in for a rude awakening.

Alien Soldier is a long-lost piece of Treasure's action gaming legacy. It's got the fast-firing, high-energy, overly-explosive intensity that fans of the company have come to expect after years of playing its shooter and action titles, and it will immediately appeal to anyone who's ever enjoyed a round or two of games like Gradius V, Ikaruga or, of course, Gunstar Heroes. Compared to the latter, Alien Soldier is an excellent follow-up and immediately recommendable as a spiritual sequel to that experience. But this particular title's lack of a two-player co-op mode and slightly elevated pricetag (it's 900 Points, instead of the traditional 800) keep it from eclipsing the value of the one that came before. If you've already downloaded Gunstar and played it to death, put down the nine bucks to keep the action going with Alien Soldier. But if you still haven't commanded the Heroes in battle, put Solider on hold, try Gunstar first, and then come back here afterward to see if your brain is still intact enough to be able to handle yet more Treasure-brand madness.

A great deal of work was done to bring the look and feel of TimeShift up to date, though an equal amount of time should have been spent on the design and presentation. With games like Halo 3 and The Orange Box out and Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 on the way, those design shortcomings feel ever magnified in the face of such giants. That doesn't mean there isn't any fun to be had here and if you have a spare weekend in the midst of the intense gaming schedule this fall demands of hardcore gamers, then Timeshift wouldn't be a bad way to spend it.

Naruto: Path of the Ninja isn’t a bad game, it’s just a stale one. As the first in a series of Naruto RPG titles, there’s little here outside of the license itself that’ll get fans of the anime excited, as the experience is extremely cookie-cutter, linear throughout, and yet another rehash of the Naruto origins tale. If you simply can’t get enough of the Naruto lore, consider this a decent recap of what you’ve already experienced on video or in written form, as the game does a great job of taking the beginning of the series plot and translating it to an extremely traditional role-playing experience. Outside of that, you’ll get the same level up structure, the same skill evolution, random battles, and portrait storytelling as nearly every other RPG before it, as Path of the Ninja does little to evolve the RPG world.

The fact of the matter is that BlackSite: Area 51 is just like every other run-of-the-mill FPS out there. You can find better multiplayer in Halo 3, you can find a better storyline in Bioshock, and you can find a livelier environment in just about anything. The game underperforms in every aspect, and although that doesn't make it bad, it certainly makes it a major disappointment for everyone who was anxiously awaiting this game's debut.

Crash of the Titans for PSP is a decent port of a briefly entertaining game. But even then, the PSP version loses out to the consoles in a number of areas; especially when it comes to multiplayer. Considering that the PS2 version retails for the same price as the PSP one, I would recommend that you just go straight to the home console game if you have to play a new Crash.
