And that's basically the big problem here. Mortal Kombat Gold is a lot like a bag of Twizzlers. Sure it's sweet the first few times you delight in it's tasty red goodness, and it's cool for parties, but after a while you're left wanting something a little less red, with a whole lot more substance to it.

Duke Nukem: Zero Hour is a very good action-shooter that, with a few improvements, could have been a classic. The game's 4MB Expansion Pak enabled high-resolution mode is too slow to be played and its glaring lack of save-points really puts a hamper in replay value, as gamers may eventually grow too frustrated with the title to give it another shot. However, if players don't mind Duking in low-resolution mode and can live without save-points, Zero Hour comes highly recommended thanks to top control, lots of environments to explore, more baddies to kill than ever before, an excellent multiplayer mode and extremely pretty visuals. All in all this game is still an excellent buy despite some significant shortcomings.

Surprisingly, it took me a while to actually get into the game. I mean, it's not easy. Whether that's by design or by mistake I'm not so sure, but it's not a cakewalk after the Mythril Mines. In fact, the worst designed course in the game is the Haunted Mansion. Even after mastering that one, I hated the swirling, corkscrew section and the trap box. Ughhhh. I can't believe this is a Square game. As anyone who follows the Japanese press knows, Chocobo Racing arrived in Japan first. But the differences between the two are almost nil. The graphics suck, the frame rate is weak, the whole thing reeks of a hack job, and unlike every other Square game I've seen, this is unpolished and problematic. Eventually I had fun, but that's after hours of this to try and seek out the fun. And I get paid to play games, not the other way around. My advice? Unless you absolutely love Square games and defend their every aspect to the death - and simply have to play Chocobo and the other Final Fantasy characters - stay far away from this. It's great for kids who don't know the difference, but for anyone else, it's average at best. Go get Crash Team Racing if you want a real kart game on PlayStation.

I love this game, despite the fact that it can be quite frustrating at times. The racing in World Driver Championship isn't the same outrageous no-brakes fun of say, Beetle Adventure Racing or Top Gear Overdrive. Instead, players must watch their speeds when going into sharp curves and downshift to make it through without losing too much speed. If you go too fast, the car will naturally begin to slide. It's up to the player to keep things under control and -- especially for beginners -- it's not as easy as one might think it would be. You WILL spin out in the beginning. Stick with the game and advance to get lighter and faster cars and you will discover one of the most rewarding racers on the N64. The sense of speed may initially seem a bit low to some people (one category where the game seems to be directly modeled after Gran Turismo) due to the high placement of the camera in the third-person mode and the realistic speed settings. I usually play in the first person mode (bumper cam), so I really can't complain about a lack of speed. Be aware though that the frustration factor can be quite high due to spin outs and tough track design -- but the impending doom of crashing into a barricade makes for some pretty tense races. It would have been nice if Boss had also thought of implementing car damage and added even more depth by letting drivers customize their car settings and add new parts. But even without garage work, there's plenty of replay value thanks to the many cars, tons of track variations and solid two-player mode. Unlocking all the cars isn't easy (especially since one team won't give you its better cars unless you remain completely faithful and don't switch partners) and will keep you occupied for a long time. The near perfect Gran Turismo for PlayStation still remains my favorite car racer on any platform, but World Driver is a welcome distraction in a genre overpopulated with stale paint-by-numbers racers. This is definitely not the right game for people with short attention spans -- but a well-crafted title for car fans and gamers looking for a long-lasting gameplay experience. I played it every day for the past two weeks, much to the chagrin of my wife -- and I still come back for the two-player mode. Buy it.

Having grown up with the Man of Steel, Superman for Nintendo 64 is a huge, whopping disappointment for me. In fact, the game is so all-around poorly executed that it's downright offending to people like myself who have enjoyed the comic books, movies, television shows and more based upon the America icon. Not only is this sub-par effort one of Nintendo 64's worst games, it serves as even more proof that it takes more than a solid license to make a solid game. With horrible control, unforgivable framerates and more bugs than can be counted, Titus should be absolutely ashamed of this awful game, and the company should be doubly ashamed for pissing all over such a beloved license. Do not buy this piece of garbage.
