A good idea gone bad in execution. While controlling super-sized space-mechs of sorts through a variety of galactic environments with a mix of real-time strategy and action elements sounds great, none of it it comes together as planned. The end result is really just a colossal waste. You have to wonder whether the developers had any familiarity with the platform at all -- everything is numbingly monotonous and repetitive, no matter how the designers tried to dress it up. Plus, the game is so full of gameplay bugs and graphical glitches that it's hard to believe it's actually a finished product and not some beta version -- and this is based on the final, boxed copy of the title. The sad part is that there were some good ideas in the Battlezonee, like the real-time strategy based Commander mode. Too bad they're buried under so much junk. Do yourself a favor and take a pass on this one.

Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is, like most other Atlus games I've played, too short. It's got the right stuff, though. It's fun, it's quirky, and above all, original. Kids will have a blast with this beginner's RPG; the songs, characters, and setting may very well win them over as role-playing gamers(as if Pokemon didn't). We older gamers, on the flip-side, will yearn for a little more. That doesn't mean that Rhapsody isn't above average. Quite the contrary! Older gamers have just come to expect a lot more out of their purchases. You'd be lucky to milk 20 hours out of this one, and I'm being nice.

To be kind, the game is fast. That makes it better by far than valueless games like The Muppets or Rugrats. Also, the environments are large, and there is some exploring beyond the left-to-right gameplay. But Croc simply isn't as sharp and enjoyable as it should have been, and it's fatally deficient of everything that made the 3D versions at least enjoyable. It's a very average game, and really not worth the time. Maybe this failed attempt is why THQ is going for a whole new engine and top-down design for the sequel.

This is a great game as far as gambling simulations go. Westwood didn't do much in the ways of atmosphere, though. There are no personalities/character players or attempts to immerse the player into the casino environment. If it wasn't for a small "slide show" (a few JPEGs of the casino), you wouldn't know that you're playing in the Golden Nugget... Still, the game is great at simulating the different games, the graphics are appealing, the menu systems refreshingly well-designed, and there is plenty of speech. Like most "niche" titles, this one lives off its party game value, offering up to four players to compete against each other. It's a nice break from all the shooting, jumping and killing, so if you're looking for something different, give it a try.
