While Spelunky 2 doesn’t offer the refined mechanics and enemies of the original, it does add to the chaos and fun of multiplayer. While playing alone is mostly an exercise in frustrating, unfair deaths, with friends it’s a barrel of laughs.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim è un gioco meraviglioso da vedere, intrigante da scoprire e divertente da giocare quando si tratta di scendere in battaglia. Dopo anni di silenzio, Vanillaware torna con un centro quasi perfetto, sporcato solo da un'occasionale mancanza di chiarezza su come far procedere la storia e una ripetitività che, per quanto stimolanti possano essere, alla lunga si fa sentire durante i combattimenti. Per il resto siamo di fronte a una trama sapientemente costruita, complessa ma non incomprensibile, che si prende i suoi tempi per svelarsi senza perciò nascondere i dettagli utili alla sua comprensione - anzi, spesso divertendosi a metterli in bella vista. Lo stesso stile minimalista degli scontri sul campo si integra perfettamente nella struttura, lasciando all'avventura il compito di immergerci nella bellezza delle sue ambientazioni e nella profondità della storia, per la quale un plauso agli interpreti è d'obbligo. La narrazione è la parte predominante nelle trenta ore necessarie a completare il gioco ma gli appassionati della strategia troveranno soddisfazione anche nelle numerose battaglie che si accompagnano alla storia. Se siete appassionati delle opere di Vanillaware, inutile dirvi di non lasciarvi sfuggire 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ma anche se non avete mai sentito nominare prima lo studio e cercate una storia sci-fi raccontata come si deve, lasciatevi catturare dall'estro di Kamitani.

All zu viel hat Derek Yu zwar nicht am Prinzip von Spelunky geändert, im Nachfolger ist ihm aber eine motivierende Weiterentwicklung mit neuen Gebieten und Extras gelungen! Beim vorsichtigen Vorantasten fühle ich mich auch nach dem hundertsten Tod jedes Mal etwas erfahrener. Nach jedem Durchgang war ich besser gewappnet, um den Unmengen gut ausbalancierter Fallen, Biester und Gefahren cleverer entgegenzutreten – und im kritischen Moment die passenden Reflexe parat zu haben. Schön, dass die Schatzsuche unter Tage nicht mehr ganz so gnadenlos ausfällt wie der Vorgänger. Doch auch diesmal muss man viel Frusttoleranz mitbringen! Oft landete ich schließlich doch wieder fluchend in einer der typischen Kettenreaktionen. Trotz der neuen Online-Unterstützung richtet sich das Abenteuer übrigens primär an Einzelspieler. Mit bis zu vier Teilnehmern wird es schließlich arg chaotisch, zumal das Online-Spiel von massiven Verzögerungen und Glitches geplagt wird. Eine PC-Version ist übrigens ebenfalls in Arbeit, sie erscheint erst am 29. September.
