While Ara: History Untold is a visually captivating historical 4X with an interesting underlying economy, it gets bogged down well before the midway point, mainly because it doesn’t provide enough tools and UI support to manage all of the things it expects you to manage. Your choice of leader, religion, and government almost always simply add uninteresting passive modifiers, which means most playthroughs will feel roughly the same other than the layout of the map itself. I had a pretty decent time with my march through the ages, especially in the first of its three acts. But it did require me to eventually give up on trying to play optimally, passing turns without doing anything until I emerged victorious. A lot of these systems are exciting and clever in their design – they're just not that enjoyable to interact with past a certain point.

Ara: History Untold doveva essere quel gioco capace di far dimenticare dopo circa otto anni Civilization VI, ma anche questa volta aspetteremo il settimo capitolo per buttare via la nostra vita un turno alla volta. Il titolo sviluppato da Oxide Games si presenta davvero bene, ha una veste grafica decisamente appariscente e ha anche dei guizzi interessanti, ma è uno strategico di cui si fatica a capire il focus e che finisce vittima del suo ingombrante micromanagement, che pervade ogni turno e che ha tolto molte attenzioni dai settori che avrebbero richiesto più cura, come la diplomazia, le tecnologie e quelle varianti indispensabili nel late game.

Ara: History Untold è davvero un gioco eccezionale. Se la struttura dei classici 4X vi ha scocciato e volete mettervi alla prova con qualcosa che tenta effettivamente di fare qualcosa di diverso, avete già trovato qualcosa che fa al caso vostro. Allo stesso tempo, è impossibile soprassedere su alcune importanti mancanze che rendono ogni partita un po' troppo uguale alla precedente. La parte politica è ridotta all'osso, non ci sono eventi eccezionali in grado di stravolgere una strategia in corso e le guerre vanno e vengono e non se ne capisce spesso il motivo. Come primo gioco, è stato fatto un lavoro encomiabile, ma c'è tanto da aggiungere e da perfezionare.

Epic Mickey Rebrushed me ha sorprendido como remake visual. Sabía que la base era firme, pero el trabajo de Purple Lamp ha ido más allá del deber logrando una paleta y unos escenarios extraordinarios. Por lógica, se arreglan los problemas con la cámara que causó la falta de un segundo stick en Wii, lo que hace un juego mucho más cómodo. Sin embargo, sus problemas inherentes en lo jugable, debidos a un control y combate simplones, así como un diseño de niveles y plataformas que nunca hace nada realmente especial, siguen alejando a la obra de la excelencia. La dinámica del poder es interesante, pero no se le saca todo el partido, aunque el sistema de moralidad se agradece en un juego tan distinto a donde los acostumbramos a ver. En conjunto, Epic Mickey seguirá gustando a los fans del ratón y a los más pequeños, pero no siempre satisfacerá tus ansias de un buen juegos de plataformas y acción.

Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a welcome return for one of Mickey’s most memorable adventures, this is just about everything one could’ve wanted out of a revisit to a lost classic. It fumbles its execution a bit with the performance, but there are enough novel ideas and enjoyable gameplay concepts here to make the experience more than worth your while. Enjoyable gameplay, a captivating world, lots of replayability, and a raft of tweaks and improvements over the original make this one an easy sell. We’d recommend this to anyone looking for a big-budget 3D platformer that does things a little differently from the genre norms, and of course to anyone who considers themselves an avid Disney fan.

Nous n'avons clairement pas été bluffés par cette version remastered d'Epic Mickey. Bien que joli et bien retravaillé dans sa version console, qui se déleste du poid de son époque sur Wii, Epic Mickey : Rebrushed ne fait que le strict minimum avec un très beau remaster et rien de plus. Destiné aux fans les plus aguerris ou aux joueurs n'ayant pas déjà joué au jeu à l'époque, Epic Mickey : Rebrushed s'impose comme un véritable plateformer, efficace en termes de mécaniques, et porté par une ambiance étrange et enivrante qui saura vous accompagner en attendant Halloween. Toutefois, si vous ne faites partie d'aucune de ces deux catégories, nous vous conseillons de conserver votre argent au chaud en attendant le torrent de titres à venir.

Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed è esattamente ciò che aveva promesso di essere: un remake dell'avventura originale del 2010, in grado di riproporne, nel contesto contemporaneo, la fruibilità e il "fattore sorpresa" che avevano contraddistinto il predecessore, aggiornando quest'ultimo, ovviamente, dal punto di vista sia grafico che tecnico. Ed effettivamente il titolo è ora apprezzabilissimo su console di attuale generazione (lo abbiamo recensito su Playstation 5), presenta minimi tempi di caricamento e un framerate fisso a 60 fps. Resta complessivamente un po' spigoloso, com'è ovvio risalendo a quattordici anni fa, e si sarebbe potuto forse migliorarne ancora un po' la fruibilità introducendo l'accesso diretto ai singoli livelli (anche per il completamento delle missioni secondarie). Dopotutto, comunque, va bene anche così.

Disney's Epic Mickey: Rebrushed è un valido riammodernamento di un'opera dalle grandi ambizioni, forse un po' schiacciata dalle aspettative che gravitavano attorno al suo autore. Pur restando un buon gioco, a cavallo tra platform e action-adventure, la qualità dell'offerta resta un po' altalenante. L'opera di restauro lima alcune delle più note asperità e migliora in effetti alcune aspetti di gioco, ma non può in alcun modo ribaltare le sorti di un titolo che avrebbe dovuto fare molto di più per restare impresso nella memoria.

Ara: History Untold è uno strategico ad ampio respiro molto profondo e pieno di elementi di gameplay che lo differenziano dai suoi concorrenti più diretti. Il suo focus sul lato gestionale più che bellico potrà piacere ad alcuni e far storcere il naso ad altri, ma la qualità generale è innegabile. Più problematica l’abbondanza di microgestione che tende a spezzare davvero troppo il ritmo dei turni; la gestione della guerra, decisamente più “pacata” che in altri titoli simili, contribuisce a dare l’idea che l’attenzione sia maggiormente dedicata alla gestione a lungo termine del proprio impero, più che alla conquista rapida di ogni altra fazione. Se siete il tipo di giocatore che apprezza questo stile di gioco, troverete Ara: History Untold decisamente interessante.

Ara: History Untold si lancia nel panorama dei 4X con audacia, portando con sé alcune innovazioni intriganti. Sebbene il gioco introduca il sistema di prestigio e le mappe non esagonali, alla base rimane fedele alla struttura di molti altri congeneri. In tal senso, la produzione a firma Oxide Games è più un raffinato restyling che una rivoluzione copernicana. Le sue nuove meccaniche offrono senza dubbio spunti freschi e sfide avvincenti e la cura per i più piccoli dettagli eleva ancor di più il valore di Ara. Tuttavia, la complessità nella gestione delle risorse e una componente bellica che non regge il confronto con il resto dell’esperienza, costituiscono versanti meno brillanti del pacchetto. Ad ogni modo, ci troviamo di fronte a una produzione di valore, capace di intrigare i fan del genere di riferimento.
