With how disappointed I am in the final product, it’s still hard to call One Step From Eden a bad game. The boss fights are memorable, it has an appropriately fast-paced soundtrack, and for brief moments it can feel like a complete, cohesive experience. However, the roguelite elements are just not implemented well enough to make each run feel fresh, and actively work against the decent core battle system.

Wiederholt musste ich beim Spielen von Exit the Gungeon an eine Folge meiner Lieblings-Sitcom King of Queens denken. In einer Szene wird Lesemuffel und Couch-Kartoffel Doug genötigt, ein Buch zu lesen. Er schafft nur eine Seite, blickt aber weiterhin stundenlang brav ins Buch, um seiner Frau vorzutäuschen, er lese artig weiter. Stattdessen plant er in Gedanken seine nächsten Mahlzeiten oder singt ein Lied im Kopf: „Ich hasse dieses Buch so sehr, ich hasse dieses Buch so sehr.“ Und genau dieses Liedchen, allerdings mit dem Wort „Spiel“ anstelle des Buchs, ging mir während des Zockens von Exit the Gungeon nicht aus dem Kopf. Trotz der hübschen Pixeloptik, trotz der vielen kreativen Waffen habe ich das repetitive Ballern, Ausweichen und eben auch Sterben wieder und wieder verflucht. Ich ärgerte mich über den zufälligen Waffenwechsel, beklagte, dass viele Knarren nicht genug Bumms haben, und fühlte Versuch um Versuch um Versuch einfach nicht genug Fortschritt in meiner Ausrüstung und der Oberwelt. Und mal ehrlich: Ich habe schon genug Contras und Metal Slugs durchgerockt, um zu wissen, dass ich in diesem Genre keine Niete bin – aber das Ausweich- und Smartbomb-System von Exit the Gungeon wollte mir auch nach Stunden nicht in Fleisch und Blut übergehen. Wie gerne hätte ich mich anstatt des Roguelike-Konzepts einfach durch viele normale, lineare Level gekämpft, da hätte ich auch das Waffenwechsel-Feature aktzeptieren können. Exit the Gungeon ist sicher kein schlechter Titel. Aber ich hasse dieses Spiel so sehr, ich hasse dieses Spiel so sehr…

Gigantosaurus The Game is a very friendly and easy going title which will provide hours distraction for young children and fun the whole family. It is not too difficult to play and there is a good balance of puzzles, collectable items, races and cut scene animations to keep everyone amused and entertained. It is likely to lose its appeal once the kids reach a certain level of maturity, but it is definitely recommended for families with younger children that need a good diversion and older family members who can jump in and out to help if anyone gets stuck.

In defitiva The Foundation è un DLC onesto per un titolo che continua a difendersi e a far innamorare giocatori. Il prodotto tenta di ampliare la proposta del titolo originale attraverso nuove soluzioni di gameplay e nuove soluzioni visive, non sempre riuscendoci al massimo del potenziale ma regalando comunque una rispettabile quantità di ore di divertimento. The Foundation è un prodotto che strizza gli occhi a tutti quelli che sono rimasti ingabbiati nella folgorante mitologia del titolo madre, offrendo a questo genere di giocatori, risposte e domande in grado di mandare avanti elucubrazioni per numerose settimane, in attesa dell’arrivo della chiusura del cerchio targata Remedy.
