The Alliance Alive HD Remastered ritorna con tutti i suoi punti forti e lati negativi. La storia e i suoi personaggi, sviluppati da Yoshitaka Murayama, già creatore della saga di Suikoden, sono sicuramente tra gli aspetti positivi di questo titolo che sembra volerci riportare indietro nel tempo, mettendo in campo una struttura da JRPG classico. Anche il leveling, con un sistema di crescita altamente personalizzabile nella sua semplicità, si rifà a vecchi modelli. Purtroppo si scontra con un livello di difficoltà generale altalenante, troppo facile nell’esplorazione generale per diventare più stimolante solo nei combattimenti con i boss. Di grandi innovazioni in questa nuova edizione non ne abbiamo trovate, anche se abbiamo apprezzato la definizione più morbida della grafica generale che rende il tutto molto piacevole. Considerando che sono passati solamente due anni dalla sua prima uscita e in pochi ne hanno potuto apprezzare il valore, forse si poteva fare un restyling più approfondito, andando a lavorare maggiormente anche solo sui dettagli, come introducendo un doppiaggio per i filmati narrativi. Nonostante questo, The Alliance Alive HD Remastered si presenta come un buon prodotto, adatto ai cultori dei classici JRPG, ma dedicato anche a chi vuole avvicinarsi per la prima volta al genere.

Frostpunk Console Edition ha pochi difetti e se proprio dovessimo citarne qualcuno, potremmo soffermarci sulla non immediatezza nella scelta corretta del passo successivo da compiere e sul senso di frustrazione che questo può generare in noi. D’altronde, che gestionale sarebbe, se fosse semplice? La performance su PS4 si è dimostrata davvero ben riuscita sia per il funzionamento fluido del motore di gioco, sia per la gestione dei comandi da joypad: il tutto ha concorso a dare origine a un risultato toccante ed emotivamente potente.

Yooka-Laylee, abbandonata qualsiasi ambizione di essere venduto come una nuova versione di Banjo-Kazooie, si rifà a Donkey Kong. Il camaleonte rotola per eliminare i nemici, il pipistrello Laylee aiuta nei salti il compagno e fugge spaventata quando colpita. Anche l’impostazione di buona parte dell’avventura, il caro vecchio 2D, è più simile alla serie Country. L’idea di rendere disponibile l’ultimo livello sin dall’inizio e l’interattività dell’hub di gioco regalano un gusto atipico all’avventura, caratteristiche che, tra l’altro, ben si sposano con una produzione che fa di tutto per aumentare la sua longevità, riempiendo ogni livello di collezionabili di ogni genere. Manca, esattamente come per il prequel, una certa brillantezza, visiva e ludica, il quid che potesse elevare il gioco a vette qualitative ben più alte. Nonostante ciò, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair è un platform piacevolissimo da giocare. Ben consapevoli di non avere a che fare con un capolavoro, se gli darete una possibilità scoprirete un fiero platform che sa fare il suo mestiere. Non verrà ricordato negli anni a venire, ma certamente non vi annoierà mai nelle venti ore richieste per completarlo del tutto.

GRID ne révolutionnera pas le jeu de course mais finalement, peu importe : ce n'est pas ce qu'on lui demande. GRID est un titre rare, c'est un jeu de course qui n'a pas la prétention d'être autre chose qu'un divertissement grand public, permettant à tout un chacun de s'amuser dans le monde des sports mécaniques. Et ce qu'il fait, il le fait très bien, avec des courses plaisantes et souvent spectaculaires grâce à une IA qui a du répondant. On pourra toutefois pointer du doigt le contenu un peu léger, un mode Carrière qui fait le strict minimum et quelques légers ralentissements constatés sur PlayStation 4 Pro. Le dernier-né de Codemasters est donc imparfait mais il a aussi de belles qualités qui en font un jeu de course tout à fait recommandable.

Um die eingangs gestellte Frage gleich zu beantworten: Nein, auch Valfaris ist nicht der erhoffte Action-Überflieger geworden, der die Contra: Rogue Corps-Enttäuschung vergessen macht. Dafür empfehle ich vielmehr Blazing Chrome. Valfaris beginnt schwach und mit zu wenig Feuerpower, setzt mir in puncto Levelaufbau viel Gewöhnliches vor und fühlt sich regelmäßg unfair an – auch die bewusst schmutzige Pixelgrafik kann mich nicht begeistern. Allerdings steigt der Spaß mit der Spielzeit: Irgendwann kenne ich die Vorzüge der einzelnen Waffen, nutze die Mechaniken besser und verhalte mich in hektischen Sitatuationen weniger hampelig – trotzdem hab ich einen Ausweich-Rutscher bis zuletzt vermisst. Richtig gelungen sind die Bossfights, das reizvolle Speichersystem und der laute, harte Soundtrack – unterm Strich wäre also noch einiges mehr drin gewesen!

Valfaris is a dark, mean sci-fi trek through a corrupted landscape that can only be cleansed through fire. Or firepower, at least, and with the right weaponry it can be both at the same time. The large levels are stocked with a host of creatures ranging from small and swarming to large and vicious, and you'll frequently have to deal with both at once. Therion's arsenal is nicely balanced to deal with the madness and the weapons are quick and responsive so each of the many deaths is theoretically preventable. Most of all, though, Valfaris is pure badassery in every level, from its brutal environments, the monstrous abominations of its bosses and of course the driving guitar soundtrack pushing the action forwards. It's hardcore run & gun action from the very start and exactly what we dreamed 16-bit gaming would grow into back in the day.
