Oninaki manages to pull off some interesting story beats and has some great environment designs. However, the excessive padding and re-use of several gameplay elements leaves a sour taste in the mouth with 20 hours of gameplay stretched into 30 and beyond.

Oninaki is a nostalgic throwback to old-school action RPGs such as Secret of Mana and Brave Fencer Musashi that doesn’t quite stick the landing. The story is ominous and surprisingly compelling, but due to a lack of meaningful characters and a somewhat convoluted mid-section, it ends up spiraling out of control. At least there’s some fun to be had in the combat as there’s a decent number of Daemons to find and use in battle, each with their own unique fighting skills and stories to be told. Disappointingly, this doesn’t last too long. Forty hours for an action RPG seems like it would offer a decent value for your dollar, but because the latter half of the campaign feels sluggish and utterly repetitive thanks to unwavering scenario makeup, it only devalues it. You should never have a game where you’re just rushing through the final dungeons because you don’t want to deal with the same old enemy encounter it has been throwing at you for so long. Tokyo RPG Factory appears to have one goal: remind us of the Golden Years of RPGs. Unfortunately, Oninaki captures that era of gaming and does nothing remarkable with it.

Oninaki es un JRPG muy clásico con toques novedosos pero con la esencia intacta. Tiene una jugabilidad llamativa y una historia interesante, aunque peca de demasiado convencional en la parte final. La estética y la música recuerdan a los títulos más llamativos de este género, aportando cierta nostalgia. La única pena, y pega, que se le puede achacar en realidad es que no vaya a llegar ni en formato físico ni en castellano a Europa, eso le va a quitar visibilidad y jugadores a un muy buen juego.

RAD, synonyme de "cool" dans les années 80 en anglais, n'est vraiment pas le titre approprié à cette nouvelle production Double Fine. Difficile de comprendre la proposition même de ce titre, un rogue-like relativement insipide alors que le marché regorge de productions du même genre très réussies, que l'esthétique 80s', usée jusqu'à l'écoeurement ces dernières années, ne parvient pas à sauver.

En conclusion, nous pouvons dire qu’Age of Wonders : Planetfall saura ravir les fans de stratégie en 4X, et en solo. En effet, nous avons du mal à conseiller ce titre en multijoueur à cause de la longueur de ses tours et combats. Planetfall peut aussi faire office de porte d’entrée aux joueurs voulant s’essayer à ce type de jeu. Nous espérons cependant que ses principaux défauts seront réglés dans les prochaines mises à jour.

Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 have both the best and worst the series has to offer, which is saying something because those highs are so high and the lows really aren’t that bad. All three games run exceptionally well, and 4 and 5 look like they belong on PS4 alongside Yakuza 0. 3 is a bit rough around the edges, but it’s still a worthwhile entry in the series cannon.

Con la metafora di un eroe che passo dopo passo lascia alle spalle la sua umanità per servire un “bene superiore”, RAD si propone come una visione originale sul mondo dei rogue like. Un gioco che riesce a fondere le sue tematiche narrative con una struttura dominata dal caso, in cui uno sventurato eroe di turno è costretto a subire ridicole mutazioni pur di completare il suo obiettivo. Il problema principale è la scarsa varietà di alcuni elementi di gioco, la quale influenza negativamente la qualità delle run più avanzate e indebolisce la struttura reiterativa tipica dei rogue like. Il titolo di Double Fine, tuttavia, omaggia gli anni ‘80 dal punto di vista visivo, musicale e “spirituale” con grande successo, grazie a uno stile iperbolico che contagia anche dialoghi e animazioni, a un narratore fuori campo e a citazioni gustose. Ma la qualità di RAD che abbiamo apprezzato più di ogni altra cosa è la capacità di nascondere dietro l’eccesso e la goliardia un messaggio tanto potente quanto amaro da digerire.
