Armored Core 6 doesn’t look to reinvent the bipedal legs of the mech action genre, but it does update, refine, and polish them to an aggressive shine. Every sortie is a satisfying combat puzzle to solve thanks to fantastic mission design, intense boss encounters, an extremely wide assortment of weapons and parts that can dramatically affect how your mech plays, and excellent, explosive combat that manages to take very complex systems and mechanics and make them easy to understand and execute. Its interesting premise is stifled by bland storytelling told through mission briefings and radio chatter, but this is still nonetheless a welcome return of a classic mecha series.

Et si la proposition globale s’éloigne de leur formule propriétaire et désormais populaire des Souls, cette précision et cette offre de challenge qui nous est faite y fait écho avec brio.

White-knuckle brilliant Soulslike action, coupled with a movement style not seen in this genre for an entire generation, resurrects a blast from the past in a whole new way. If you are a fan of the genre, this game is pure punishing fun with all that implies. If not, it’s unlikely to convert you. In either case, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a brilliant title that breaks the mold on the genre in a whole new way.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon riporta in auge una IP a lungo dimenticata: complice lo stile che FromSoftware ha affinato grazie alle sue ultime produzioni, il nuovo gioco ruba un po' dai soulslike e da Sekiro, ma propone un'esperienza fedele all'originale e allo stesso tempo abbastanza moderna (ma non troppo), con tutto ciò che serve al proprio posto. Rimane un po' di difficoltà intrinseca che potrebbe fungere da barriera architettonica per i neofiti, ma tutto sommato il gioco propone un game flow divertente.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon è un ottimo punto di ripartenza per la serie, che dopo tanti capitoli non proprio riuscitissimi era mancata per un intero decennio dalla scena. A primo acchito il tasso di difficoltà ben al di sopra della media può sembrare eccessivo, ma lo studio dell’avversario e gli indovinati ritocchi che i ragazzi di FromSoftware hanno apportato alla formula ludica, senza tralasciare l’ineguagliabile livello di personalizzazione da sempre offerto dal franchise, sanno regalare stavolta un’esperienza stimolante e rivoluzionaria. La grande rigiocabilità del prodotto è tuttavia controbilanciata da un’intelaiatura narrativa tutt’altro che memorabile e troppo conservativa dal punto di vista strutturale. Il futuro della saga, il cui ritorno non era affatto scontato, appare quindi promettente e luminoso.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon admirably weds satisfying combat with extensive mech customisation, with short missions letting you quickly experiment with new ideas and builds. However, once you've settled on an optimal loadout, it's those same quick-fire levels that begin to blunt the fun. The result is a game that can be just as enjoyable as it is frustrating. A littering of good boss fights and rock-solid performance on PS5 make it a worthwhile experience as a whole, but Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon won't go down as a classic in the same way other FromSoftware titles have for the past decade.

Armored Core VI è dunque definibile come il mecha game definitivo? A nostro avviso sì. In primis, senza nemmeno citare le innumerevoli build possibili, la modellazione grafica e il sistema di illuminazione next-gen, o il numero e la varietà eccezionali di missioni disponibili in PVE, prima di buttarsi nel PVP, perché il feeling restituito ai comandi di ogni configurazione è diverso: magnificamente adeguato all’equipaggiamento montato e, soprattutto, “da pilota”. Significa che non sentiremo mai pienamente nostro il personaggio visualizzato a schermo, percependone le parti mobili e i movimenti, le evoluzioni e le operazioni offensive, difensive o di elusione sempre come “manovre” operate su un mezzo che ci risponde con tempi suoi, ingranaggi che scricchiolano e ferraglia dall’immane peso che si muove in virtù del combustibile che gli pompa nelle giunture. Non è scontato e, soprattutto, è quel che i fan delle lotte tra mecha desiderano: essere alla guida di un Gundam, piuttosto che essere un Gundam loro stessi. Chi crede che sia la stessa cosa, prenda in mano il controller, si butti su Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon e capirà cosa intendiamo.

Immortals of Aveum es un juego disfrutable, que quizás guste a cierto perfil de jugadores y a amantes del género de la acción. Durante nuestro análisis nos encontramos con problemas técnicos que se nos prometió subsanar con el parche día 1 y subsecuentes actualizaciones, pero también hay bajones gráficos en ciertos apartados del título. Divertido, pero tienes que saber a lo que vienes.

Less a case of biting off more than it can chew, Immortals of Aveum instead serves up a mixed bag of notable creativity, dragged down by issues both narrative and technical alike. While future patches may go some way to iron out the uneven frame-rate and inconsistent visual quality, the same can’t be said for a brand of writing that’s at best tolerable and at worst, potentially off-putting. Minus one or two secondary characters you’d be happy to see stick around for longer, yet are sadly ditched in service of a plot with brief but ultimately unfulfilled promise. If nothing else, Ascendant Studios could’ve done a lot worse given the tone and the design intentions placed here. What’s left is a game that while doesn’t always put its best foot forward, eventually finds a way to loop back round to feeling curious as to what it has tucked away out of shot. Though it may trip over itself one too many times, Immortals of Aveum‘s rewarding level design, puzzle-solving and potential for custom builds still offers a sufficient amount to carry this “magic-shooter” pitch through to credits’ end.

Fort Solis Fort Solis ci ha trasmesso una sensazione piuttosto netta. Da un lato, abbiamo percepito la volontà del team di sviluppo di mettersi in gioco, anche ricorrendo alla professionalità di grandi nomi come Troy Baker e Roger Clark. Dall'altro lato, ci siamo trovati di fronte ad un titolo sfortunatamente impalpabile, tanto ludicamente quanto narrativamente. Il team polacco Fallen Leaf si è dunque ritrovato, suo malgrado, a fare il passo più lungo della gamba. Il risultato è un'esperienza thriller a sfondo fantascientifico che, nonostante l'appeal cercato dal marketing, scivola via senza sussulti e punti esclamativi. Un titolo dunque adatto unicamente ad una fugace serata senza pretese: un vero peccato. Immortals of Aveum è la dimostrazione che delle valide meccaniche di gameplay, unite a una realizzazione generale tutto sommato discreta, possono dar vita a esperienze di gioco single player in grado di poter dire la propria in un mercato dominato da giochi live service e miriadi di proposte free-to-play. L’epopea di Jak nel regno di Aveum regala un piacevole intrattenimento grazie a un approccio libero e variegato a combattimenti quantomai stimolanti, proponendo al contempo momenti in cui emerge il lato più avventuroso e posato dello sparatutto di Ascendant Studios. Le piccole e grandi sbavature di carattere tecnico spezzano però l’idillio magico di un gameplay non certo originale ma indiscutibilmente efficace, a cui non basta neppure una componente ruolistica piuttosto articolata per coprire gli alti e bassi di un frame-rate poco stabile. Immortals of Aveum resta comunque una proposta più che valida nel campo degli sparattutto in prima persona single player, seppur non riesca a entrare nell’esclusivo club degli shooter da giocare almeno una volta nella vita.
