The Last Case of Benedict Fox features a wonderfully unique supernatural setting that’s full of interesting ideas, but mixed execution and control issues meant that I could only enjoy its morbid mystery in patches. While I derived great satisfaction from completing its genuinely taxing puzzles, my progress with the main case too often stalled thanks to ambiguous objectives and poor navigation tools that had me retreading sections of its sprawling map to an exhausting degree, routinely stalling the story’s momentum for prolonged stretches at a time. Many of its flaws are of the type that seem like they might be remedied via post-release patching, but in its existing state The Last Case of Benedict Fox is like one of its protagonist’s bungled double jumps – it reaches for greatness but falls a bit too short of the mark.

As a way to recreate 2d Zelda-like dungeons, Super Dungeon Maker is an excellent start. With not only a wide array of tools for creators to craft dungeons, but a solid backlog of available uploads, there's something for both sides of the coin. A lack of progression does sting a bit, but the quality of the dungeons does a lot to make up for it. (Review Policy)

Disney Speedstorm has the potential to be something great. The driving is smooth and fluid, the maps are vivid, and I love the characters and how they’re made to perform. But let’s be real here, gacha mechanics shouldn’t even have been considered for a racing game. This won’t be the last action racer we’ll see and I don’t expect any of them to be the next Mario Kart killer. I do expect them to at least not be a cash grab hidden behind a mask of beloved iconic characters, cool power-ups, flashy tracks, and cool funky music.

Afterimage est une réussite. Faire du Metroidvania de qualité est à la portée de beaucoup, en faire un d’une telle maîtrise est tout de suite moins commun. Pas exempt de défaut malgré tout, notamment via ses ambitions de contenu se mariant mal avec l’abondance d’allers-retours potentiels, aux sauvegardes et téléportations contraignantes, ou encore de petites imprécisions techniques. Le soft parvient tout de même à soigner sérieusement le moindre aspect de son game design, dans la forme comme le fond. Nul doute que les studios ont su saisir l’essence du genre pour éviter de véritables fausses notes, nous incitant à accepter cet intéressant, mais pas moins costaud et nébuleux périple aux ambiances réussies.

Seppur non privo di difetti, Afterimage riesce a distinguersi nel panorama delle avventure 2D in salsa metroidvania, complici i suoi meravigliosi fondali, il buon level design e l’assetto ludico. Gli sforzi di Augoron Shangai per rendere interessante il viaggio dall’inizio alla fine sono evidenti, e crediamo che gli appassionati di storie intricate, mappe labirintiche e boss fight importanti non dovrebbero perdere l’occasione di vestire i panni della giovane Renee.

Senza troppi giri di parole, Redfall avrebbe necessitato di un ciclo di sviluppo più esteso, e di un pizzico di coraggio nella realizzazione della struttura. È un prodotto imperfetto, ma che sa divertire quando ci si trova a intombare vampiri in compagnia di amici, vista anche la presenza di protagonisti dotati di abilità uniche e di un arsenale fornito di strumenti di morte di varia natura. Per queste ragioni, gli abbonati Game Pass in cerca di qualche ora di svago in co-op potrebbero dargli una possibilità, ma tenendo a mente una cosa: non ci troviamo affatto dinanzi al prossimo passo evolutivo delle produzioni a marchio Arkane.

Redfall sees Arkane experiment with melding genres, to mixed results. There's plenty of flashes of the style and narrative flair we've come to expect from this incredible studio as you explore the town and face off with its undead inhabitants. However, the mixing of FPS action and story beats with open world exploration and a relatively relaxed pace leads to a balancing act that may leave hardcore shooter aficionados and Arkane super fans alike wanting more. If you come at it looking for a chilled out bit of vampire hunting there's still plenty to enjoy here, but some irksome AI issues and a lack of clarity over what it really wants to be leave it feeling a little lost in a limbo of its own making.

Redfall tente d'être beaucoup de choses : un monde ouvert façon puzzle, une sorte de looter-shooter où l'itemization ne suit pas, un jeu de tir à la première personne narratif qu'on ne comprend pas bien... Il ne réussit pas vraiment à convaincre, peu importe le genre qu'il essaye d'émuler. Et c'est sans compter de nombreuses limitations techniques. Le coop pourra le sauver pour certains, en ajoutant le plaisir de la convivialité, mais ça ne fonctionnera pas pour tous. Il y a dans la tiedeur du nouvel Arkane un manque de maitrise probable de trop de nouveaux éléments - on espère que le Game Pass et quelques patches l'aideront à trouver son public.

Redfall is a gold dust-rare miss for what has been a very consistent deliverer of quality video games. If you are able to look beyond the game’s several questionable design choices, Redfall can serve up just a small bite of mindless fun beneath the island’s black hole sun.
