Barnyard Blast has a lot going for it, but unfortunately not the most important things. Hopefully the developers can take their great sense of humor and old-school roots and move this genre into new territory, rather than get stuck in the past. Retro gamers might want to stop by the barnyard, but there are already several, better classic-flavored platformers on the DS. If gaming in the past isn't your thing, you'll want to pass on the pork.

Nintendo thought highly enough of Super Turrican that it released by itself on March 3, unaccompanied by any other additions to the Wii Shop that day. And though it's disappointing for some who'd ask for more quantity on the Virtual Console, there's no denying the quality of what we did receive. Super Turrican is a great experience, one that served to establish of firm foundation for Factor 5 as developers of home console video game software. It's a blast to play, as it expertly balances paying homage to other popular action designs with its own innovations and mechanics. And it pushed the envelope of what the Super Nintendo hardware could accomplish now over a decade and a half ago. 800 Wii Points is an easy price to pay for a game this good – and luckily, there should be more where this one came from. Super Turrican 2 is also a likely future release for the Virtual Console, as is the Genesis installment of the franchise, Mega Turrican.

The Puyo Puyo puzzle design first came to American home consoles in two forms – as Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES, and as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for the Genesis. Both of those versions are available for download on the Virtual Console, and both are solid editions of the standard Puyo Puyo gameplay. But if you can handle investing an extra 100 Wii Points and don't mind the fact that this version's still completely presented in Japanese, then Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu is a more balanced, robust and impressive offering. Kirby and Robotnik were good, but Tsuu is a bit better – and it's Tsuu's version of the Puyo design that has been utilized ever since its original release, in those more recent editions of the game that have managed to make the jump to domestic shores. Puzzle fans, give this one a look. It's the exception to the rule that all puzzler sequels are worse than their predecessors.

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition per Playstation 3 delude. Non perchè sia un brutto gioco, assolutamente, bensì poichè ci si aspettava qualcosa di più da Capcom. I 13 mesi che hanno separato l'uscita del titolo su XBox 360 da quella su Playstation 3 non sono serviti a nulla: nessun miglioramento è stato apportato, nessun nuovo bonus è stato introdotto. Anzi: il comparto tecnico sulla console Sony risente dei medesimi problemi notati sulla macchina Microsoft, appesantiti ulteriormente da grave lacune (aliasing su tutte); i bonus presenti nella versione XBox360, inoltre, sono scomparsi su quella PS3. Insomma, va bene il porting, ma con un bel po' di cura in più. Lost Planet resta comunque un Action Game d'alta scuola, che riesce a coinvolgere ed emozionare. I possessori della macchina Sony che non abbiano la possibilità di giocarlo dovrebbero comunque considerarlo un acquisto valido, per i meriti di un gameplay e di un'impostazione ludica come non si vedevano da tempo. In the right hands, real-time strategy and the Nintendo DS could go together like chocolate and peanut butter. But these aren’t the right hands: Command and Destroy has all the makings of a good RTS, but the awful controls and the even worse save system kill the fun. Even with fixed controls the game would never have been as good as any of the classic PC games, but it certainly would be worth playing. Instead, it ends up a tremendously huge missed opportunity, a big tease to a genre that still has yet to be exploited on the Nintendo DS.

Compared to other Harvest Moon titles, this one feels like it strays pretty far away from the franchise's formula. The inconvenient truth is that while you still harvest crops, the farther into the game you go, the less important farming becomes and the more island exploration takes over. Unfortunately, the unbalanced level of exploration, slow development of the story and nonsensical character development (coupled with his virtual isolation) makes the game one of those titles that appeals to an even smaller niche of this niche genre. What's more, the limited additions to the "Special Edition" doesn’t make this one better or any more improved over the PSP version.

Pro Evolution Soccer ’08 is what every sports fan wanted from the inaugural batch of titles from a few years back. PES ’08 houses the same fluid and responsive gameplay that made Winning Eleven 9 one of the best football (American soccer) games ever made, only now it has some production values to match. The offering of modes may not have a standout or one feature that was obviously the focus of development, but it has more than enough to satiate the appetite of the many rabid football junkies of the world. For this year’s best virtual football and a return to form for one of the staples of our industry, look no further than Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. It won’t disappoint.

En terme de pur gameplay, Lost Odyssey est un RPG classique qui ne révolutionne en rien le genre. Si certain attendait le renouveau de ce style de jeu, ce n'est pas vers le dernier né des studios Mistwalker qu'il faut se tourner. Classique mais efficace, Hironobu Sakaguchi prouve encore qu'il sait faire de très bons jeux. En s'entourant de grands noms tels que Takehiko Inoue au graphisme ou Nobuo Uematsu à la musique, qui nous livre d'ailleurs des morceaux d'anthologie, il montre qu'il n'a rien perdu de son talent de créateur et de "recruteur" (n'oubliez pas qu'il avait amené Yoshitaka Amano à travailler sur la série des Final Fantasy). Mais son coup de génie a été de collaborer avec Kiyoshi Shigematsu, qui apporte énormément à ce titre. De leurs travaux prend forme une histoire, encore une fois assez classique, mais qui prend une véritable ampleur avec le poids et la force des mots. En ressort une aventure simple, juste, mature, touchante et d'une humanité rare. Alors certes, il a des défauts et il n'est pas parfait, mais Lost Odyssey a été réalisé avec une réelle sincérité, chose qui se fait rare de nos jours. Un excellent RPG qui mérite logiquement sa place dans la ludothèque des fans du genre, qui reste encore trop rare sur la console de Microsoft.

Le mode Aventure de Bomberman Land ne parvient pas vraiment à convaincre malgré son imposante collection de mini-jeux. Etant donné qu'il constitue la seule innovation de cet épisode, autant télécharger Bomberman 93 sur la Console Virtuelle. Les moins exigeants pourront toutefois s'en accommoder le temps d'un week-end.

Let me break it down for you: this game sucks. It's not that I'm too harsh on "casual games," it's that nobody in the world is going to have any fun playing this. Regardless of the demographic you're trying to reach, if you're making a racing game the cars should be fun to control and it should somewhat approximate the exhilaration of driving really fast. The only thing Classic British Motor Racing approximates is playing a bad game.

What's the point of selling a substandard bowling game on a system that gives one away for free? This game is an absolute dud: it plays poorly, it lacks all sorts of important features, and it doesn't come anywhere near the same quality as what Nintendo already includes as standard issue with every single system in North America. An absolute waste of everyone's time and money...gamers and developers alike.
