FEAR ist für mich, auch nach dreimaligem Durchspielen, immer noch -der- Shooter des Jahres 2005. Atmosphärisch, technisch und in Sachen Coolness bleibt die dunkelste Ballerei des vergangenen Jahres für mich ungeschlagen. Doch kaum gibt Monolith die Design-Zügel aus der Hand, merkt man schnell, dass es eben nicht reicht, einfach nur in den vorgestapften Fußspuren ohne den Extraschuss Genialität zu laufen, um ein würdiges Add-On auf die Beine zu stellen. Denn prinzipiell macht Extraction Point alles richtig: Die Zeitlupenaction ist immer noch geil und sieht teuflisch gut aus, die Gegner-KI ist nach wie vor eine der besten, die gut platzierten Schockeffekte sind einzigartig. Nützt aber alles nichts, wenn das Ganze von eher ödem Leveldesign und einer lieblos dahinplätschernden Story umrahmt wird – wie oft ich den Satz »I’ve got a bad feeling about this« gehört habe, weiß ich schon gar nicht mehr. Extraction Point ist beileibe nicht schlecht, wer FEAR mochte, wird damit fraglos seine Freude haben. Aber nach dem brillanten Hauptprogramm hat man dann doch ein bisschen mehr erwartet.

NHL 2K7 is the total package. The gameplay is solid and smooth even if it is still very similar to older titles in the franchise. Visually, the new dynamic camera is a nice touch and fresh perspective. Overall, the graphics and sound feel straight out of last year's game and 2K Sports clearly focused on the next-gen product over the current-gen. Online, 2K Sports continues to lead the pack with online leagues and seasons. NHL 2K7 on higher difficulties is a solid simulation and, with all the modes, teams and options, is the most complete hockey title on the PS2.

Poche regole certe vigono nel mondo dei videogiochi: una di queste sembrava essere l’equazione “film commerciale + realizzazione videoludica = aborto digitale”. Ma quando si ha per le mani Lego Star Wars II: La Trilogia Classica per Playstation 2, è doveroso ricredersi. Il titolo, un action 3D che alterna fasi di combattimento a risoluzioni di alcuni semplici enigmi, non deve ingannare il giocatore adulto con la sua atmosfera colorata e pacioccona data dalla presenza dei mitici mattoncini di plastica. Il gioco ripercorre in tutto e per tutto le epiche avventure di Luke Skywalker e compagnia, in un crescendo di empatia per i simpatici omini componibili. Nonostante le ore richieste per portare a termine l’avventura siano solamente 10-15, i programmatori hanno introdotto numerosi incentivi per proseguire nel gioco: oltre ad una modalità cooperativa ottimamente realizzata, la possibilità di sbloccare nuovi bonus nei vari livelli utilizzando personaggi nel frattempo sbloccati e l’opportunità di giocare con un qualunque character o veicolo da noi creato, grazie alla poliedricità costruttiva di Lego. Ben supportato da una grafica semplice e lineare, ma comunque godibile e dalla colonna sonora magistrale di John Williams (che non risente affatto dei quasi 30 anni ormai trascorsi da Episodio IV), Lego Star Wars II ha insomma tutte le carte in regola per imporsi in questi primi mesi autunnali nel panorama videoludico su Ps2; un esempio di come la semplicità possa rivelarsi comunque di qualità. Possédant de très bonnes idées et prenant le risque de partir sur un concept difficile à suivre, Pacific Storm réussit en partie son pari. Seulement en partie, car de nombreuses choses restent perfectibles et empêchent le titre d'accéder au meilleur de ses trois gameplays. Les mélange des genre est réussi, mais pris individuellement, chacun des fronts déçoit légèrement.

Derrière son extrême dépouillement graphique et sonore, Poker Academy cache un titre de poker qui ne paye peut-être pas de mine mais qui devrait largement intéresser les amateurs. Les outils mis à disposition permettent à la fois d'être guidé dans les parties et de progresser à son rythme. Attention tout de même au prix de la chose, plutôt élevé et susceptible d'en rebuter quelques-uns.

Need For Speed Carbon isn't a revolutionary game and it's far from a stinker. Instead, it's what EA does best: It creates pretty good games with lots of features. Carbon switches out drag racing and Pacific North West backgrounds for drift racing and inner city urban streets. The freaky FMV filtered stuff is back and there seems to be more than ever (too much?). The drifting is an acquired taste (but it's good), the canyon duals are decent changes (though not great), and the crews...well, they suck. Of the myriad new features, the addition of muscle cars and the online functionality are the best. The muscle cars bring real challenge and change to the races and the online games (when lag isn't hampering you) are great cop-chase endeavors.

Scurge: Hive is a fantastic game, there's no question about it. But which one should gamers buy? Both games are great, but the GBA version really stands out. The graphics are stronger, and the price is cheaper. If players really want that map on the bottom screen, then by all means, go for the DS version. Even with the less polished graphics, Scurge: Hive is an excellent buy.
