With its setting and story, Steelrising could have been the Bloodborne-inspired Soulslike that many have been waiting for since the release of From Software's masterpiece. Unfortunately, the game developed by Spiders doesn't manage to be anything more than a middling game, with its gameplay issues making it hard to recommend to those who are not die-hard fans of the genre.

Sans jamais exceller ou s’imposer comme une nouvelle référence du genre, Steelrising est un Souls-like tout à fait solide qui plaira à coup sûr aux fans de Dark Souls et d’Elden Ring. Oui, il y a du pour et du contre un peu partout ! La technique est en retrait mais la direction artistique l’emporte haut la main. Les phases d’action sont agréables mais manquent de challenge sur la fin de l’aventure. Le level design des diverses zones est assez scolaire mais fonctionne bien. Malgré tout, on se laisse rapidement emporter par ce jeu d’action exigeant, teinté de robots, de Révolution Française et d’Histoire. Si l’ambiance vous parle et que vous aimez Elden Ring, vous pouvez y aller sans hésiter.

Steelrising is another gem from the mine that is Spiders. The choice of the steampunk, alternate history French revolution setting is amazing, and somehow the Soulslike formula works beautifully in tandem. Throw in a distinctive story and phenomenal assist mode, and Steelrising is a sleeper hit in a year where we could use another.

Steelrising è un action-RPG che fornisce tratti steampunk alla rivoluzione francese, gettando nella mischia della Parigi del 1789 un esercito di automi, al servizio di sua maestà Luigi XVI. La protagonista danza tra la sua storia e quella della rivoluzione, senza però che le due trovino mai un equilibrio; quello che ne risulta è un ballo strano, troppo impegnato a cercare un senso di esistere per essere davvero convincente. Dal punto di vista estetico (modelli dei PNG a parte) è un piccolo gioiello, con la Francia ricostruita da Spiders che appare maestosa, piena di luci e ombre; non sempre queste ultime sono funzionali al gioco, ma la bellezza di certe vedute compensa pienamente. Le meccaniche di combattimento sono snelle ma fanno pienamente il loro dovere e, nonostante il design dei livelli renda la quasi totalità degli scontri del tutto ignorabili, affrontare gli automi del tiranno è un piacere, sebbene non offrano una sfida così ardua.

Splatoon 3 est l'aboutissement de sa propre formule avec une expérience plus complète que jamais. En s'inspirant de l'Octo Expansion, ce nouvel épisode propose un mode histoire fun par la diversité de ses niveaux et son hub agréable à explorer. Le titre n'en oublie pas pour autant ses fondamentaux avec un multijoueur efficace, comme à l'accoutumée, qui profite de nouveaux mouvements subtils et d'armes inédites. Et si le Salmon Run est toujours aussi sympathique, ce qu'il propose ressemble beaucoup à ce qu'on a connu dans Splatoon 2. Et si sa grande proximité avec son prédécesseur est le principal reproche que l'on peut faire à ce troisième opus, il n'en reste pas moins une excellente nouvelle exclusivité pour la Nintendo Switch.

Splatoon 3 is more of the same, but refined to borderline mechanical perfection. It's the most fun we’ve had with an online shooter in years, and for series veterans it makes Splatoon 2 feel entirely redundant for all but its unique single-player content. It feels like the development team has solved every problem the Splatoon community was bleating on about, and then fixed some more that we didn’t even realise were problems until they were fixed. There's nothing revolutionary about it compared to its predecessors, and it's perhaps missing a Big New Idea™ that you might expect after five years, but Splatoon 3 is the pinnacle of the series, and the pinnacle of shooters on Switch.
