Marvel’s Midnight Suns pulls all its different elements together to create a memorable tactical RPG. The combat is the main event and its execution resulted in every battle being an enjoyable event, whether it was taking on a nefarious supervillain or relieving Hydra of the ownership of a valuable artifact. Outside of battle, life in the Abbey is full of activities and social interaction with other super heroes that greatly flesh out its RPG elements. The dialogue trees aren’t the most in depth ever created, but they’re fleshed out enough where they help the world feel alive and worth saving from Lilith. The end result is a game that isn’t just a must play for superhero fans, but one that should be experienced by RPG fans in general.

Merci la nouvelle génération de consoles ! La saga NFS repart dans le bon sens, grâce notamment à une technique impeccable pour un jeu de course arcade (moteur Frosbite, 60 FPS constant, 4K, HDR...) et une prise en main toujours aussi abordable pour quiconque souhaite se prêter au jeu des courses clandestines. Need For Speed Unbound a pris un risque dans ses effets en cel-shading, et il est payant puisqu'il ajoute une vraie personnalité au titre sans perdre le sel de la licence. On retrouve le même effort dans les possibilités de personnalisations de son ou ses bolides, qu'ils soient visuels ou liés à la performance. En revanche, certains seront frustrés par une progression très lente via les sommes d'argent gagnées en courses, amputées par une difficulté mal équilibrée. Si l'on met ça de côté avec le scénario insipide du mode solo, Unbound réussit là où NFS Heat avait échoué, à savoir donner un peu de vie et de saveur à la découverte de l'open world nommé Lakeshore City.

Need for Speed Unbound brings plenty of style and builds upon the high stakes dynamic established in 2019’s Heat to create an engaging and enjoyable open world racing game. The large emphasis on story falls flat once again particularly during the slow opening hours, and the online mode lacks some of the best aspects of the single player mode, including police and Takeover events. Fortunately, the excellent performance and smart overhaul to the turbo system ensures the moment-to-moment gameplay always feels great, and the huge amount of unlockable vehicles, customization options and optional activities and collectibles means there’s always plenty to do each time you make the trip to Lakeshore City.

The Callisto Protocol is a supremely atmospheric and action-heavy tour through a spectacular slaughterhouse set in distant space. Its largely linear design makes for minimal backtracking, meaning it trims the fat while leaving no shortage of bone and gristle to rip and tear. However, it also betrays its survival horror roots by regularly tipping the balance of power too far in favour of the player, and while there’s plenty of murderous fun to be had using giant grinding mechanisms to make mulch out of mutants, such cheap thrills come at the high cost of puncturing any tension and dread that the tremendous art and audio design work so hard to invoke. Aside from the meaty melee combat, there’s also the overriding sense that there’s not a lot here that hasn’t been done before – and there’s disappointingly little to do once you’ve beaten the campaign. Thus The Callisto Protocol is a satisfyingly gory spiritual successor to the Dead Space series, but it’s ultimately more of a striking modern mimic than a scary new mutation.

Syberia: The World Before Approcciarsi a Syberia: The World Before è un'operazione malinconica, consapevoli che si tratta dell'ultima opera del compianto Benoît Sokal. Per certi versi, l'avventura di Kate Walker può rappresentare un testamento spirituale del leggendario artista belga: un racconto delicato ed intimista denso di significati, impreziosito da una direzione artistica sublime ed una colonna sonora evocativa. Al netto di qualche incertezza tecnica e di alcune scelte di game design che potrebbero renderlo poco adatto a chi cerca enigmi intricati nelle avventure grafiche, il quarto capitolo di Syberia è un degno e commosso omaggio a questa storica saga.
