Since I really should consider all things besides just the amazing number of hours of gameplay available when giving a score, I will deduct a half point for low-res sprites and another half-point for the story mode being too easy (for me — your milage may vary).

That’s about all there is to say about Hellboy, honestly. As far as licensed games go, it isn’t too offensive, but it could have been so much more. Less derivative game design, a more responsive fightng system, fewer glitches and more varied enemies might have helped it out. Sadly, it is still a much better game than, say, the Ghost Rider game. If you’ve got kids to keep busy or a gigantic Hellboy fan around, you could do worse than this, but you could also do much, much better.

These are really small nitpicks of an unabashedly successful debut of the Homestar Runner crew into the proper video game realm. It’s also a success for Nintendo’s malnourished WiiWare service. Though it has provided a few gems thus far, they have been peppered between long bouts of years-old PC ports and blatant remakes. Clocking in at the better part of four hours, with a cost of 1000 Wii Points, each episode of Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People will give hope monthly to those looking to support WiiWare. Well, for the next five months, at least.

Still, even with what’s missing, this title is quality. I’m not going to even pretend that I know anything about "balance" anymore; my tournament-level fighting-game-playing days are long since past. However, not only is Soulcalibur 4 a fun game, but it so far has not presented any situations during matches that are impossible for people to get out of (barring network lag). If only they’d added the frills that they’d had for the previous installments, we’d have a true winner here. As it stands, I personally rank this a good bit below the Dreamcast original in terms of quality, but above all other installments.

Nothing about this game is good. It’s one of the most horrible games ever made. If this was a free Mini-Clip game, I’d heavily advise against playing it. But the fact that this shovelware piece of crap costs $10 is simply disgusting.

Now, any one of these hiccups by themselves wouldn’t be much to deal with, but with all three at once, this game just isn’t going to click with a significant amount of people. Fair enough. Operation Darkness may be rough around the edges, but it still deserves to be played by any SRPG fan. (Including you. Yes, you.) It innovates from the usual set of strategy titles in so many areas without falling flat on its face, and it’s a meaty title besides. Sixty dollars won’t get you the prettiest game on the market in this case, but it’ll get you one with plenty of substance and personality—especially if you can look past its faults, most of which are but cosmetic.

Overall, the tongue-in-cheek humor, combined with the rather engaging puzzle system and multiplayer capabilities, make this a rather infectious title. The three-minute games mean you can pick it up and put it down at any time, which is great for quick breaks or to waste a couple hours. If you like puzzles, even remotely, you won’t regret catching this virus.

Army of Two is definitely one of those "love it or hate it" games. If you manage to "get" the game mechanics, there’s definitely quite a bit to enjoy. On the other hand, plunking down $60 to find out whether your love is true is quite risky, so we’d recommend renting it first. What we’ve got here is a game that’s deep in some places, shallow in others, and needs to be experienced just because it plays with what you’re used to. In today’s risk-averse game industry, experiments—even flawed ones such as this—deserve to be noticed.

Even without the police chases and the breathtaking scenery, ProStreet could have been a great game. Instead, it’s a competent but not particularly interesting racing title that will constantly leave you wishing that you were playing a console version instead. Perhaps they’ll get it right next time.

The end result is where we were most wrong. Dead Head Fred is a solid and inspiring PSP title, and one that we had been following closely since we first laid eyes on it at E3 two years ago (where we gave it “best portable game of the show”). We ask that you disregard our print review. We heartily and highly recommend this game for anyone looking for a great game for their PSP.
