I suppose that, if there's one facet to be constant, it's that Dragon Quest VII will remain at least semi-controversial, no matter what version is played.

Fear Effect’s 2025 re-release revives the cult PS1 classic with its iconic characters and tension-filled story intact, but technical shortcomings drag the experience down. While its unique Fear Meter system and cinematic ambition still impress, frustrating combat flow and poor visual clarity hinder its modern appeal. Newcomers may struggle to connect, while longtime fans will find it hard to ignore the lack of meaningful updates. But at the end of the day, it's still Fear Effect, so if your a fan of the franchise looking to play it again or are looking for a difficult game to spend hours on completing then it's a worth a shot, otherwise, your going to have a hard time playing through this with the biggest obstacle being the game's resolution, rather then the enemies.

For me, Octopath Traveler 0 is much, much more than a masterful turn-based RPG. As someone who loathes free-to-play gacha games, this title is a genuine dream come true in such a pristine form that I never dared dream of. This prequel would have had no impact on me in its original form, so I’m indescribably thankful for this effort to make it an offline experience not alien to the rest of its family. Octopath Traveler 0 is indisputably the blueprint for how every single story-based gacha should be treated. Regardless of its genre transformation, Octopath Traveler 0 is hands-down one of the best RPGs ever made. Its storytelling, characterizations, soundtrack, and densely interconnected gameplay loop are masterclass, even if it takes more than a little while for everything to click. Honestly, Square’s HD-2D output has been exceptional, and I’m eager to see where these efforts continue to grow.
