I still cannot believe that not only does SEGA believe that a mere four games makes up a “collection,” but that these were the best games to show off just how out there and ahead of the curve the Dreamcast truly was during its short lifespan. Where’s Jet Grind Radio or House of the Dead 2? Where’s Phantasy Star Online or Virtual On? Sonic Adventure is not the best the Dreamcast had to offer, not by a long shot. And so not only does the Dreamcast Collection end up not being a very good deal, it throws away a wonderful opportunity to showcase SEGA’s beloved last console.

MLB 11: The Show takes some big strides to improve the gameplay and largely succeeds. Fielding matters now and the new analog controls for pitching and hitting are fun. The lack of major improvements to Franchise and Road to the Show are disappointing, but The Show remains the best baseball game in town. If you've been waiting for someone to take you out to the ballgame, wait no longer. MLB 11: The Show is here.

Every modification to the gameplay and structure of Dragon Age II is a clear improvement over the previous game. The combat is more responsive and bloody, you don’t need to fight the inventory system anymore, and conversations are more engaging thanks to the adapted Mass Effect wheel. There are downsides though; the semi-linear story and repetitive environments have a negative effect on what is otherwise a great role-playing game. Despite these complaints, Dragon Age II is a game I’m eager to replay.

Excepting the continued unfortunate lack of online support, Bit.Trip Flux is in every way an improvement over the original Bit.Trip Beat. It's a worthy sequel to the title that started it all, and a welcome way to bring this two-year WiiWare journey to a close. If you've enjoyed any of the previous Bit.Trip games before, Flux is an easy recommendation for immediate download. Go spend some Wii Points and finish the Trip.

That quest for loot is a lonely, solitary affair, but if Torchlight grabs you, it might be a while before it lets go. As an example of a type of game that’s largely eschewed release on the Xbox 360, Torchlight is a great case study of why that doesn’t need to be. At 15 bucks, Torchlight is a steal for lone wolves with a lust for loot.

It might not be enough, of course, to sway players who weren't pulled in the first time around. Frankly, if it didn't interest you then, it might not now either. Of course, they'd be ignoring a trend-setting, rounded and entertaining adventure game. Given the lower price and upped quality of presentation, what was already a great experience is that much better now – so get behind the original Beyond Good & Evil and see what you (probably) missed out on.

Gods Eater Burst is a fun game about killin' critters and collecting loot. It has some great ideas in place, including a transforming weapon model and complex bullet creation. But Gods Eater lacks variety. Furthermore, the pacing of combat can be painfully interrupted by a cowardly Aragami running from the fight. There are way better PSP games out there, though Gods Eater Burst does target a unique audience that rarely gets time in the spotlight.

Pucca’s Kisses is a charming, unique platformer that, unfortunately, never hits its stride and seems confused as to what audience it’s trying to target. The game might be fun for younger kids, but it’s just not engaging or complex enough to keep the attention of older players, especially for $10.

Hyperdimension Neptunia sounds awesome when it's being described by a friend or read off the back of the game's case, and honestly the premise is so bizarre and original that I'd totally tell you to pick it up if there were cutscenes, a coherent story, or, hell, a fun battle system. But besides some cool battle sequences, funny gaming jokes, and a few nice images, the rest of Neptunia is a middling RPG that doesn't put in the effort to make itself noteworthy or worth playing, which is ironic considering it's a game about SEGA trying to prove it's not just that.

Fight Night Champion gets the boxing right and adds a flawed but enjoyable story mode. I've always put a lot of stock in career modes, but Legacy mode here is just downright bad. The mini-games are too tough and get boring fast. The entire concept just seems off. What should greatly extend Fight Night Champion's playtime, made me like the game a lot less. Avoid the career mode, enjoy the story mode, and spend a few hours creating some dream boxing matches. That will make any boxing fan happy.

Dawn of War 2 – Retribution is a great strategy game, and at its price point of $30 there’s simply no excuse not to pick it up if you’re a fan of the series or have been curious to check it out. It makes warfare into something violently beautiful, and pays homage to the nerdy lore that Warhammer fans like me can’t get enough of.

Knights Contract is a miserable game that I hope you do not have the misfortune to play. It completely blows up a cool premise with maddeningly stupid AI (a death sentence in a game that’s a glorified escort mission), a terrible camera that enables its unfair (and un-fun) instant kills, and a boss battle formula that should have never made past the first month of development. If you manage to run the gauntlet and make it to the end of Knights Contract, you will have undoubtedly let loose a string of paint-peeling curse words not only at the screen, but also at your wallet, which is now sixty bucks lighter with nothing remotely fun to show for it.

Bloodline Champions is similar to the idea behind Unreal Tournament: a game that thrives on player competition without levels or endless character attribute tweaking bogging it down. Stunlock's game largely succeeds, and though it's not the prettiest piece of software on the planet, it's definitely one of the most entertaining. The player community isn't as populated as it probably should be, but finding matches is usually no problem, especially if you play in the evenings. Considering it's free, I heartily recommend everyone who enjoys player-vs.-player competition to download it and at least give it a shot.

I liked A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda, and if you’re into old-school action-platformers or Mega Man X-like titles, you probably will too. The game can be difficult, and although it’s short, the overall A.R.E.S. experience promises to be episodically delivered. Therefore, this title is really only scratching the surface. At five stages, A.R.E.S. is an experience that tries to stress speed-running and earning better overall scores at the end of stages. There are collectibles to find, and a few different weapons to experiment with. At $10, A.R.E.S. is a good game to download and play one night when you’re bored. Just don’t expect more than you’re paying for, and you won’t be let down.

But a handful of memorable moments aren't enough to recommend Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll. With a sturdy RPG backbone and combat that’s light and inoffensive it’ll happily consume your time, though its dearth of imagination and lack of ambition ensures it’ll give you little back in return.

Having done all the writing, animation and programming himself, Gemini Rue took Josh Nuernberger a total of three years to make—the same amount of time it takes some triple-A titles to hit the shelves. If only more triple-A games turned out this well. With (for the most part) seamless, intuitive gameplay, impressive atmosphere and one of most well-crafted and interesting storylines seen in recent years, Gemini Rue is a game not just for adventure fans, but for anyone who loves a good, gritty yarn.
