Porting a 360/PS3 fighting game to a portable comes with a cost. Capcom has attempted to minimize these sacrifices as much as possible. In some cases the changes actually improve the experience. The addition of the touch controls, in particular Lite mode, will open up Street Fighter to a whole new audience. Plus being able to execute fireballs with one button is a lot of fun. In other cases, these changes are for the worse – once you notice the static backgrounds, you’ll have trouble looking away. But all in all, this is a great game. It’s not only the best launch game for the Nintendo 3DS, but will certainly be regarded as a great purchase for years to come.

I want to like PlayStation Move Heroes. It's killing me that it kind of sucks. The appeal of some of my favorite video game characters ever doesn’t outweigh that this is a boring mini-game collection with spotty controls. A decent story could have saved me from disappointment, but PlayStation Move Heroes doesn't even have that. I can’t even recommend this game as an easy Trophy game. Unless you're desperate for a new Move title, or to see your heroes slum it, just skip it.

I'm an admitted Ghostbusters fanboy, but I just can't recommend Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. For the most part, the game is just boring with lackluster gameplay and reused environments, and then it gets frustrating. Toss in issues I didn't even mention such as unresponsive weapons and repetitive music, and I know I wouldn't want to suit up for this one.

It says a lot that -- despite one or two bugs that caused me to restart a level, as well as a host of individual mechanics that aren’t particularly noteworthy -- I still enjoyed LEGO Star Wars III. The atmosphere is downright adorable, and the use of the license is excellent. Most importantly, though, the various types of gameplay that the developers have thrown together may not be all that amazing on their own, but the elements work together to create a well-paced, easy-to-understand game that is good fun for anyone. If you’ve been looking for a game to play with your kid (or a game to let your inner kid play), look no further.

Steel Diver is well executed, but lacking in depth (which is ironic for a multitude of reasons). However, once you give it a fair shot, you'll be surprised how addictive the gameplay is and how much fun you’ll have trying to master the controls and conquer each mission. It's not exactly the side scroller we were expecting from Nintendo's first party 3DS launch, and it really, should not have been $40, but it's a commendably unique and engaging concept. If you're dying for something to play with your launch day 3DS, and you have an open mind and a bit of patience, this might be just what the doctor ordered. But if you're holding out for fireworks, your money would be better spent elsewhere.

It all conspires to make a bike racing game that, as a package, is the very best there’s been for years. Rival outfit Milestone’s SBK game may still have the slightest of edges when it comes to the handling, but it hasn’t the depth of progression, the accessibility or the all-important licence that MotoGP 10/11 has. It’s one of the most exciting series in motorsport, and this year it’s got a game to do it justice.

Jikandia puts us in control of how long it takes to complete a level, but it doesn't give us a reason to stay any longer than we have to. This could have been a treat for retro gamers, but the dull action and stingy rewards make it more of a cheap trick.

I wanted to like Slam Bolt Scrappers a lot more than I actually did. I really dig the core concept for the game, and it’s clear to me that developer Fire Hose Games threw its all into trying to make a compelling product for PlayStation 3 gamers. But Slam Bolt Scappers requires a lot of learning, and moreover, the lack of online play in a game that seems to be a no-brainer online offering is outright inexcusable. Single-player may keep you busy for a while, but the second you explore any multiplayer options, I bet you’ll be as sorry as I was. It will likely sour you on the whole experience, and make you question why you spent $15 on a game that... well... isn’t worth $15.

Now that I think about it, maybe it's fitting that Hard Corps: Uprising resists using the Contra name. It's definitely classic Contra, but at the same time feels new and exciting. Rising Mode is a genius way to keep you returning to levels even after you've beaten the game. If you've ever been into Contra or Metal Slug or action movies, Hard Corps: Uprising is for you.

If you don't own a PS3, then MLB 2K11 is your only choice in baseball video games. It's not a bad baseball game, and has certainly made some improvements. Pitching and hitting are both fun, and the My Player mode has been expanded on to make it more accessible and engrossing. The glitches are fewer, but still noticeable, and the game does make some graphical improvements, though the game engine is looking tired. As cliché and tired as it sounds, I look forward to seeing what 2K sports brings next year.

I liked Homefront a lot, and yet I acknowledge that the aspects of the game I like the most aren’t the most important in determining whether the game is great or not. Homefront is certainly one of the most unique shooters I’ve ever played, driven by an ingenious and surprisingly well-fleshed out plot and a dark and dreary, realistic setting. But it also controls and feels like a typical shooter, looks like a game that’s several years old, and most importantly, has an inexcusably brief campaign. Multiplayer is Homefront’s redeeming quality, and those gamers out there who are like me and swoon for alternate/future history settings should certainly look into it. However, if what you’re seeking is an upper-echelon shooter, keep looking, because Homefront isn’t what you’re searching for.

With Atom Zombie Smasher, Blendo Games delivers an abstract take on a zombie invasion that's as addictive as it is charming. It's easy to lose track of time as you obsessively test out new offensive strategies while splattering crowds of undead and funneling helpless civilians to safety. Though it has a few issues with regards to Blendo's reliance on randomization, such problems shouldn't turn you away if you're looking for an offbeat gaming experience.

Yakuza 4 has some fun gameplay, cool moments and tons to do. However, it also has a really dated vibe and a cumbersome story. For me, the weak tale and repetition in actions and leveling drag the experience down and make it something that's just "Okay."

I still cannot believe that not only does SEGA believe that a mere four games makes up a “collection,” but that these were the best games to show off just how out there and ahead of the curve the Dreamcast truly was during its short lifespan. Where’s Jet Grind Radio or House of the Dead 2? Where’s Phantasy Star Online or Virtual On? Sonic Adventure is not the best the Dreamcast had to offer, not by a long shot. And so not only does the Dreamcast Collection end up not being a very good deal, it throws away a wonderful opportunity to showcase SEGA’s beloved last console.
