The original Mercenaries came out three-and-a-half years ago. But instead of giving us a game with more than three years worth of updates, Pi Studios has actually taken three steps backwards. Mercs 2 looks worse, plays worse and is just plain worse than the groundbreaking original. Why this watered-down version was even published is a mystery. Were this game fun, with the missions structured in a way that made them enjoyable, thaen there'd at least be a reason to rent. But there's nothing here to recommend. Mercenaries 2 on PS2 is a bad game. 'Nuff said.

So it's absolutely undeniable that Super Mario RPG is worth its asking price of only 800 Wii Points, as it's a classic, deep, fun and cult-appealing installment in the Mario series that no Nintendo gamer should go without playing. Nintendo saved itself a winner to take the honor of the "250th Virtual Console Game" title, and you shouldn't hesistate to download it right away -- because in addition to getting yourself a great game for a great price, you'll also be showing further support for those other seemingly forgotten games that the fans are still crying out to see come to the VC.

Disgaea 3 is an odd case. Despite all my problems with it, I can still openly recognize the aspects that long-time fans will appreciate and I'm sure that owners of the previous Disgaea titles will want to pick this one up. The franchise does sincerely attempt to give you hundreds of hours for your money and I really enjoyed certain parts of the whole, but the game's mechanics haven't been refined, and the poor graphics and clunky interface are obvious indications of these shortcomings. If you don't have a huge budget and you need to get a lot of play time out of a single title, Disgaea 3 is certainly a great option, as you'll be playing it for months -- even years. But having to sacrifice so much in terms of graphics and mechanical implementation is unnecessary. Ultimately, I think Absence of Justice is just the repackaging of a formula that's passed its prime.

The Golden Horde is still appealing owing to its interesting troop creation system and its focus on a rare setting, but the campaign moves along far too slowly and focuses too much on stealth and not enough on fighting. If you're absolutely chomping at the bit to get your hands on an RTS that lets you fight as Medieval Russians and Mongols, you don't have too many other options, but there's not much else here to recommend.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, like so many other sports games, doesn’t have a headlining feature but the handful of new additions perform fairly well. While Hank Haney is more bad than good, it doesn’t hurt the core golf experience in the slightest. Toss in some new courses and golfers and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 brings it together for a complete package that will please golf fans.

Castle Crashers takes the best elements of traditional side-scrolling beat-em-ups and adds lots of flair. There's some great humor here and some nice surprises that will please most. Of course, the most important thing is that it's a whole lot of fun -- especially when you play with friends. While there are some cheap moments with enemies firing at your backside, the bulk of Castle Crashers is an enjoyable ride and one every 360 owner should experience.

In the end, The Last Guy is an outstanding title that's challenging, funny, and fresh. Yes, it's a download and it's rather simple looking, but once you get your hands on the controls and get to the point where you've tanked for the fifth time in a row and are plotting a path on the map overview before your next deployment, you'll know why this game rocks. Plain and simple, The Last Guy deserves to have a place on your hard drive.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play is a tough game to rate because I figure it will probably be the last EA golf outing to ship minus Wii MotionPlus support. There is just so much potential for next year's game -- potential that this year's iteration cannot possibly match. And yet, truth be told, Woods 09 is still excellent in most regards. It looks better. It plays a great deal better thanks to improved swing mechanics that capture that one-to-one sensation. And it's packed full of more content than ever before, including new Wii-exclusive mini-games and a truly fabulous online component. So even if next year's game is bound to be superior, I can't ignore the fact that All-Play 09 is one of the best golf videogames I have ever played. Get it. There's enough replay value in this single project to hold you over until next year's sequel. And while we're all waiting, I'll see you online.

Digimon World Championship apparently doesn’t actually want you to play it. Which would explain why it does all its gameplay by itself. Maybe it thinks you're stupid and just decided all you can be trusted to do is moving Digimon from cage to cage. This is just an insult to Digimon fans. It's like the developer borrowed my car, stole the stereo out of it, crashed it into a wall, then tried to bring it back and tell me it was a "new car revolution." I'm not buying it, just like none of you should buy this game.

This is an extremely polished game that fits the DS like a glove. It's got style, grace, and attitude, and it feels good to play. The physics are great, and almost every level is fiendishly clever. It's also one of the rare titles that are presented better on a handheld than on a console. No question, N+ is one of the best DS games of the year.

Legend: Hand of God isn't a totally awful game, but that said, it isn't much fun. Multiplayer would help, but it's still a pretty paint-by-numbers action RPG in a world where the Diablo series is still on top. For $39.99, something this generic just doesn't seem that compelling.

These types of hack-and-slash dungeon diving games don't appeal to everyone, but if you're a fan of the genre From the Abyss is a competent offering. It's got lots of dungeons to explore, tons of items to equip, and some pretty cool boss fights. It missed a good opportunity by not letting you progress through the story in co-op mode, but it's still a fun single-player experience. If you're not afraid of a little challenge and you like the flavor of traditional Japanese games, give From the Abyss a look.

I spent more time YouTubing old episodes of Garfield and Friends than I did playing this game from beginning to end. And I had more fun doing that. Most of Garfield's Fun Fest is a mediocre platformer, and the rest is a completely forgettable minigame collection. Even if this game was good, it's only half an hour long, which is not long enough to charge money for.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to get much out of Carnival Games on the Nintendo DS, so my lowered expectations probably helped lift my enjoyment of the product. The product doesn't quite hit the target in a lot of places, but it's pretty clear that the developer put a bit more effort into its game than some other developers put into their own "cash-in casual" titles.
