It’s far from being “too little, too late” for this venerable battle royale to go free-to-play. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds may be a known quantity these days, but its slower paced survival of the fittest struggle still creates memorable shootouts and intense moments in nearly every match. However, console players might find its efforts to render its massive 8x8 km maps in proper detail technically disappointing, and no matter where you play its vehicles are no joyride. Thankfully, PUBG has plenty of life left in it if you can look past the clunky weapons and vehicles to see the much more hectic firefights and interesting, tactics-focused survival that house them.

When Nobody Saves the World is at its best, which it is for a majority of the 15-hour campaign, it's a joy to play. Granted, its transformation menu needs a lot of work to make it useful on the fly, but there’s a wide variety of fun and humorous sidequests, excellent customization options that encourage experimentation between your various forms and the abilities they can equip, and clever dungeon designs that really demand you explore the full depth of that customization. That delicious center is unfortunately bookended by a slow beginning and a drawn-out end, but they’re worth pushing through and past to experience what is truly a unique and charming action-RPG.

Mad Dash won't shock you or surprise you by being the arcade type game you expected it to be, despite talk of huge levels and multiple routes. If there's anything to get disappointed about, it's that once you've figured out your perfect routes, you'll have little interest in the actual act of running through the levels, unlike most racing titles, where it's usually the opposite experience. Unfortunately, what this creates is a racing game with the limited replayability of a platformer. You'll come back to this one, but mainly to play your friends. Mad Dash could use some more depth when it comes to the actual gameplay itself, but as arcade games go it delivers a fun, fast experience that's ultimately more fulfilling than other games of this type, like Cel Damage.

Century: Age of Ashes is a really enjoyable PvP aerial combat game with some excellent game modes, unique character classes, and lots of beautiful, fierce dragons to collect and ride into battle. It could benefit from hoarding more content since its handful of maps can become stale after a dozen hours or so, and it desperately needs some balancing tweaks and more options for its ranked playlist to prevent one class from dominating, but it already has the makings of a very strong dogfighting game with enough dragons to make the Dovahkiin proud.

The folks at Yacht Club Games continue their streak of hits when it comes to Shovel Knight. As a puzzle game Pocket Dungeon treads familiar ground, but does so in a way that feels completely unique, whether as a fan of Shovel Knight, roguelites, or block-falling games. Some of the roguelite elements feel underdeveloped, and an online versus mode really would have pushed it over the top, but even with those minor shortcomings, this is yet another excellent entry in the world of Shovel Knight.
