Micro Machines V4 is a surprisingly deep little racer that, while not without its problems, offers quite a decent trip down a virtual racetrack. But keep in mind, if you're a hardcore driving nut then you should probably lower the score below a good one to two points... as this game isn't really made with you in mind. Who it is made for, however, is an adolescent player who recognizes the toy line, is altogether new to gaming, or likes to keep their racing nice and simple. If that sounds like you or someone you know, then you may want to raise that score a point or two instead.

The original Micro Machines still holds up as one of the real racing classics in gaming's past, and it's the posterchild for top-down racers. The game's managed a successful run over nearly two decades, but Micro Machines V4 ends up missing a lot of opportunities to live up to the namesake, at least on the Nintendo DS. Chuggy framerates, mushy controls, laughable vehicle designs, and a scattered game progression and presentation spotlight admittedly solid and faithful gameplay and clever track designs. There's some fun in this game, but if you want to see what made Micro Machines such a strong franchise, look into its past renditions.

Though inspired, Danny Phantom doesn’t quite sit among the greats of GBA brawlers. The design is solid, obviously taken from Treasure’s Astro Boy, and as a simple action game it holds its own. Presentation does the license justice, offering the visual atmosphere of the show without dragging out the front end of the game. Action is fast and mindless, and though it is the appeal of the package, it is also the downfall. Danny Phantom is simple, shallow, though entertaining. It may not be a contender when up against some of the heavier hitters on the system, but it still manages to be entertaining while it lasts. Most of all, the game is a success because it is fun. This is a classic case of an inspired design, teamed with strong execution, offering one concise gameplay mechanic rather than pursuing multiple genres within one package. For that reason, Danny Phantom is a success, raising the licensed bar much like its design inspiration did for the genre itself.

Rockstar has made its point. Table Tennis is a lean, straight-to-the-point game that captures the essence of table tennis exceptionally well. It's a super fun, incredibly addictive, surprisingly focused and smartly designed game that's totally worth $39.99. The actual sport has been handled very well. It's meant to be played with a friend or online. If we just reviewed the actual gameplay mechanics and that's it, this game would have received a higher score. But as a single-player game, it's underwhelming. As a whole package, it's disappointing. There are no extras here. There is no career mode, no mini-games, no doubles games (and we understand why). As a game design it's clearly simple and lean, and while that was the point, you can finish this game in a mere two hours. It's just too short and lean for our tastes. If you want a table tennis game that's strictly focused on great mechanics and addictive gameplay, but that lacks a reasonable single-player mode and is shockingly sparse, Rockstar Presents Table Tennis is your game. For $39.99 and a few good friends around, you'll have a blast.

If you can get past the ordinary textures, bland character designs, and strange presentation of Urban Chaos: Riot Response, you'll find a technically capable game that offers a lovely little surfeit of gameplay touches that make it very worthwhile. While there is violence in this game -- headshots, blood, gore, and some conversations with the enemies that can get real nasty -- one theme stands out above the rest, and that's cooperation with civils servants for the better good of the community. Perhaps I'm reading too deeply into this game. But I don't think so. Aside from Urban Chaos being a workmanlike FPS packed with a great assortment of weapons and unlockables, and despite its rough art direction, the gameplay is solid, the mechanics are good, and the game is varied and fun.
