While the game doesn't add anything new to the genre, it's got enough fun to make it enjoyable for a few passive hours on the couch. This will definitely appeal to those who felt Wave Race was too difficult or demanding. Still, Splashdown's too conservative. If you're going to be an arcade racer with wacky characters and over-the-top tricks, then you can't pull any punches. There's very little in the environments to make you go "wow!" or "zoinks!" or "holy schnozzle!" And there's not enough tricks to keep them interesting forever. There's certainly enough here to carry you through all of the tracks and finish up a championship, but will it keep you coming back for more a month later? Probably not.

Finally, I'll admit Morrowind isn't for everyone. It's a huge, sprawling, megapolis of a game that can take a couple hours just to get into and a hundred hours to complete. In an industry where most games present clear, linear paths guiding you from one pre-defined problem (a jumping puzzle, a monster, or some other dexterity test) to the next, some gamers will find Morrowind's open-endedness unfamiliar, bewildering, even perplexing. They'll sit there, waiting for someone to come along and tell them what to do. But others will find it liberating. Freedom is intoxicating. If the purpose of games is to provide absolute escapism, to immerse us deeply in another world that never was, and then to give us the ability to go through it and do what we want to do, then Morrowind accomplishes that brilliantly.

Outlaw Golf is a pretty good game. The presentation and humor take it a long way and there is some longevity in completing the many tasks. But you can't have a golf game that doesn't offer quality golf. And the course designs just don't work here. For a game that's supposed to be extreme, the courses are incredibly tame. This isn't a bad pick-up if you want a game with humor and girls with undulating bodies, but if you're looking for a great golf game to last you a few months, this is one to walk away from.

Moto GP is another fine addition to the Xbox racing library. While it doesn't offer the varied tracks of Rallisport Challenge, Moto GP does any racing fan proud. Filled with stunning lighting effects and several modes of play, this will help fill those lonely summer hours when few games are out there. Not only are there a ton of licensed riders to play as, but you can create your own racer as well. Plenty to come back for and plenty to enjoy. Add to this the ability to go online with fifteen other racers and Moto GP is a real winner.

Hunter is a joy. A true pleasure to play. I dream about this game. I don't have to stop to think "what game do I wanna play tonight," because I already know. It's all about the Hunter. The only downside is the length of the adventure, but even after getting through it once, I'm ready to go again. Hunter is what the latest Gauntlet needed to be but couldn't. When the next four-player slaughterfest comes out, it's Hunter they should be compared to, as it's truly the cream of the crop for the genre. If you have friends, get this game. If you don't have friends, buy a few and get this game.

The previous Army Men games seemed to have missed the mark but with Army Men RTS, 3DO caught a winner. Army Men RTS has hit on something -- it's serious, it's primal, it's wacky and it's fun, all at once. You get all the fun of RTS fundamentals combined with the kitsch appeal of plastic soldiers.

Hitz 2002 grabs you and sucks you in with its all-out frenzied gameplay style. The developers realized that it was everyone's dream to check the other team throught he glass and beat them senseless without penalty. They delivered on that. Sadly, the single-player experience wears thin pretty quickly, even with the Franchise mode and full NHL license. This is one of Midway's most common problems. Like an arcade game Hitz lacks long-term appeal, and without the threat of pay-for-play it can wear out quick. For me Hitz biggest appeal is its multiplayer mode. If you have enough friends to frequently play muliplayer with, it's definitely worth a buy in my book. There's just a certain satisfaction of slamming site Editor-in-Chief Matt Casamassina through the glass that can't be described. Trust me, you'll get the same enjoyment when you're beating your friends into a comatose sate too.
