Street Hoops was a struggle to get to know, but in the end it's not as bad as I initially thought it would be. On the surface, you see a rough looking (graphically, not socially) arcade basketball game with a ton of ambitious superficial elements. At its core, Street Hoops is a weak playground simulator with a little basketball thrown in on the side. I always thought "Hoops" was the operative word for this basketball videogame, but it turns out it's all about the "Street," at least as much Black Ops and Activision can understand it. And this is its fundamental problem. There's not enough basketball to keep you engaged as a gamer looking for a new hoops experience and far too much attention paid to an ill-conceived representation of what life is supposed to be like for playground all-stars. An arcade game like Midway's NFL Blitz doesn't have us simulating the behavior of overly aggressive football players before a game like buying steroids or bashing a forehead into a brick wall, because those are common myths about a world many gamers may not understand and they should be required to enjoy that kind of game. It would be like buying jewelry and getting new haircuts for the playground legends in an arcade hoops game.

Taz: Wanted is a game that's better than the average platformer in many ways, and in most aspects of its production, it's poorly executed. The mish-mash effect of the occasional gems of hidden gameplay in between long lengths of average play, which is then poorly complemented by less than stellar graphics and weaker than desired voice samples and sound effects, creates a disturbing out of kilter feeling. I wasn't sure whether the next level would bring fun or misery...or bad editing. And while I'm always up for being thrown off balance, it better be by design, not mistake, and I'm not sure whether Blitz Games knew one way or the other. Overall, Taz: Wanted is a decent game worth about 8-10 hours of your time, given your level of interest in Looney Tunes' Taz the Tasmanian devil. In short, rent this before you buy it.

This game has some nice features, like spawning generations of Norns and watching genes and behaviors carry on, but the limited feedback allowed by the graphics really kill this one. As I played this, more people stopped and stared in awe of how bad this looks than the number of people that stop to check out a really nice looking game. I think that there's just too much to this game to be ported to the PlayStation with it's limited memory, and the design team didn't seem to cut corners in the right places. While the PlayStation version of Creatures shares the same concept and ideas as the PC version from which it is based, the PC version plays entirely different. Most of this version's faults likely don't exist in the PC version, and if you're really interested in trying this game out, pick up Creatures on the PC instead if you can.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed NASCAR Thunder 2003. Not a big stock racing fan by any means, the user-friendly controls and interface along with an absolutely splendid presentation really helped draw me in, and I expect it will do so for the majority of console owners out there as well. The only real qualm I have is that the repetitiveness of racing in ovals and other similar shapes for countless laps over and over again, could wear thin after while. But with a high number of street tracks, ergonomic driving, and other plusses I mentioned elsewhere in the review, this is one racing game that I'd recommend to veterans and newbies alike without hesitation.

Here is what it boils down to: shooting things is fun. Shooting things, when properly presented, is one hell of a lot of fun, and Gungrave presents more shooting packed more densely with more impressive style than just about any other game in the last several years. Not even Devil May Cry comes quite this far in the style department, and in comparison, it certainly doesn't measure up in the continuous-shooting department, containing as it did far too many unforgivable lapses in the tempo of gunfire. Going into Gungrave, then, recognize that this is a straightforward old-school shooter with a bit of depth to master and a few forgivable flaws, and things should go just fine. If you demand more length and depth from your games nowadays, and there's nothing wrong with that, go forth and sin no more. There are certainly plenty of other games to receive your attention. For now, however, I have a fever, and I believe the only prescription is shooting things.

Ultimately I'd have to say that as a realistic F1 sim this one takes a back seat to EA's title. However, if they could find a way to release a patch to stabilize the product, and users willing to tolerate the less than friendly user interface, the actual game is good enough to be considered worthy by those who may not want brutal hardcore sim, and would just rather experience the thrill of F1 racing with some assists from the computer. And of course, it would be great if Geoff Crammond and Co. could finally write a new, more believable physics engine. So in the end we get a few new features, such as the longer replays, some nice instructional videos and a bit of a graphics facelift. If you don't own any of the Grand Prix series and EA's title is too daunting for you, you might check out Grand Prix 4. If you like EA's title or want a lot more to say about what your car does, Grand Prix 4 won't win you over.

Chase lacks ingenuity, vive, and excitement. There are no tense moments, no times where you will throw down your controller over the difficulty of a situation, and no real reason to play it all the way through. It lacks passion. I can't say I had fun playing the game, but for some reason I kept playing. Maybe it was just to see if it would get better. Probably because it wasn't a terrrible game and it was hard to believe how lifeless it felt. Chase might be a rental, but certainly isn't worth the price of admission. With so many games coming this Holiday, save your $50 for a more worthy offering.

I wouldn't call myself a dedicated fan to the sport, but I do appreciate good simulations and arcadey takes on racing. From Gran Turismo to Burnout, I often find I can't pull myself away from the TV. Even as a kid, I remember I fell in love with a game called Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road, which I'm reminded of when playing 4x4 Evo 2. It used to have a similar setup where you earn all this cash to buy yourself better parts for your big, bad 4x4. So, naturally, I was pretty excited by the sheer volume of cars and parts you could buy in 4x4 Evo 2. Setting up my vehicle was pretty entertaining, but as soon as I began racing in my career I just found the races to be generally boring. The only reason I wanted to press on was to earn more cash to upgrade my vehicle. Since the core of the game is racing, after all, and not purchasing cars and parts, I can't say I recommend investing in 4x4 Evo 2. Only the most mouth-frothingly fantatical 4x4 devotee would be rewarded by what it has to offer.
