One of my favorite racing games of all time has both impressed and disappointed me. On the one hand, the physics, sense of speed, handling and graphics are dazzling, top-notch effects that rocket this game to the top of the heap, in those regards. On the other hand, the sheer lack of game modes is disturbing. Couple that with the fact that you can only play through the Championship mode in the Ford Focus, and that you cannot modify your vehicle in the stages mode, and you've got a quizzically lopsided, partially finished title on your hands. Perhaps you can open something special later on in the game, but I haven't found it. So, Colin McRae Rally 3 is an outstanding achievement, and any rally fan should, without hesitation, play this game, either through direct purchase or by rental. Suit yourself. Just know that you're likely to feel a twinge of disappointment soon after you get over the visceral delights that it so readily offers.

Post Mortem is another game in a series of games that had potential but falls short for one reason or another. It is one of the best I've played in the last year, though. The genre benefits from this title. Pretty decent graphics and sound only serve to make the intriguing tale of murder and deception believable. The dialogues are interesting and add a lot of the game. You can explore and play the game however you like and there are many ways to pursue the investigation. While its lacking on puzzles and this will leave you with a feeling of dissatisfaction, it is nonetheless a worthwhile adventure game that will hold us over while we wait for THE adventure game. If we wait for it, it will come, right? Right??

If you're a 2D fighting fan, it doesn't get much better than this. There's a ton of characters, balanced gameplay, and most importantly, online fighting. Yes, the graphics are extremely dated; yes, this is pretty much the same game we've been playing for years now; and yes, Mai should be a character in DOA Volleyball, but Capcom VS SNK 2 EO is a shining example of gameplay over graphics if there ever was one. Not including Guilty Gear X2 on PS2, there is no other 2D fighting game that even comes close to dishing out the kind of fun that this game does. The significance of online play in Capcom VS SNK 2 EO cannot be underestimated. Without it, the game loses the only feature that really sets it apart from the other console versions, as well as other fighting games in general. Ask any gamer that plays 2D fighting games and they'll tell you that online play is something that could not have come soon enough. Fighting games thrive off human competition, and the ability to play against people around the world from the comforts of your bedroom is a marked achievement. Well done.

Rally Fusion is great looking, average-playing racing game. The floaty feel of your car, along with the wacky physics keep the game from being any deeper than a petri dish, but it can enjoyed in brief spurts. This is one game where I would really recommend a rental first. Some people will really like the over-the-top physics, while others won't. With so many great racing games on Xbox, Rally Fusion has a tough time keeping up with the competition. If you want a great rally racing game, your first choice should be RalliSport Challenge. If you want to try something new and a little more pickup-and-play, give Rally Fusion a try. You might like it.

While it isn't the best RTS I've played, Impossible Creatrures is a good, fun, and very creative game. If you're looking for a new twist on an old genre, this may be what you need to boost your interest again. Hell, if you're new to the genre altogether, this is a pretty interesting way to start. The creature creation process is close to enough to recommend this by itself, but put together with a fun single player mode and interesting Magic the Gathering style army building multiplayer strategy, it's a kooky ride that most gaming fans will enjoy. Add that up with the promise of many mods due to Relic's mod developer network and open engine, this could grow bigger than it is now. It's barely shy of missing total approval, but for sheer style and creativity alone, I recommend that you at least give this one a look before you head out to the store next time.

Drome Racers captures the essence of the LEGO racing world pretty well. The cars look great, as do the environments. Almost everything about it stylistically matches up to the license. The game's graphics engine is pretty solid and everything moves at a pretty quick pace. Add in the weapons and you've got quite an action-oriented racer. The game's major downside is that it doesn't control as well as it should. The off-road cars control reasonably enough, if not in an entirely realistic manner. On the other hand, the paved road cars don't handle as well as they should. They're a little too unforgiving in their steering, so driving them requires care to make sure you don't slide at all, as opposed to trying to slide and drive aggressively and then trying to regain control of the car. The end result is that they're just not as fun to drive as they could and should be.

Super Bubble Pop is not the poor man's puzzle game; it's the "Not only am I broke, I'm in major debt" man's puzzle game. This game is not worth the price of purchase, and if you get if for free, sell it. If you're really hurting for a puzzler on Xbox, play Tetris. Otherwise, wait for something, anything else (hopefully a Puyo Puyo-based game, or an online Chu Chu Rocket). A complete bust.

Far from perfect, Pacific Theater is a phenomenal step over the original Deadly Dozen, which fell far short of quality gaming in nearly every single respect. Fixing many of the woes and wrongs of its father by improving enemy AI and including multiplayer support is commendable, to say the least, as is the focus on the oft overlooked Pacific Campaign complete with an Alaskan mission. However, this second World War II outing from the developers at nFusion has many miles to go before it can comfortably and rightly sleep next to the big boys. Dropping players into relatively nonlinear missions where they are free to roam about and murder the Legion of Honorable Doom sounds like a good idea, but is delivered with little direction and thus little excitement. Sporadic firefights with never more than four or five enemies are also sadly kept at distances. Consequently, the suspense of storming a village or hut, or even a simple line of trees is all but extinguished once the tedious, unforgiving nature of the game sets in. Walk, prone, snipe, walk. Still, its redeeming qualities (price included) manage to overwhelm buggy performance, nagging AI issues, somewhat lax graphics, and a surprisingly unstable but enjoyable multiplayer component. In the end, Pacific Theater is sure to become another wanted action title by those rabid war buffs who simply cannot get enough carnage and patriotic drama. For gamers stout of heart and full of little desire to relive wars of yesteryear, there are better offers, certainly. But, none perhaps aspire to become more than they are as much as Deadly Dozen does. For that, and the fact that there are few glaring faults and many, many improvements, the title comes recommended.

Certainly not the best title ever conceived for children and most definitely not for adults, Island Xtreme Stunts is nothing more than your average run of the mill videogame, with a suspect framerate and little challenge, we couldn't see ourselves recommending this one to anyone over the age of eight. For those that apply, though, you could certainly do a lot worse. Pick it up from your local rental chain first and see if your child truly digs it.

Despite minor issues, Neocron did manage an impressive launch and is showing signs of improvement with each and every pass. Is it enough to warrant hordes of gamers dropping their alternate lives in established titles such as Everquest or Anarchy Online? No. However, it may gain a nice cult following from those looking for a change of pace in atmosphere and gameplay from their current multiplayer playlists.

Lowrider is a funky minigame that somehow became a game in and of itself. Tacked onto another racing title, it would've made sense, but this is one of the weakest excuses for a game ever. If you can find it for $10 or less, I'd recommend picking it up for a good laugh, but beyond that it's better left forgotten.
