American Nightmare feels like a great attempt to find a middle ground between a full retail release and the DLC chapters of Alan Wake. An improved combat system and the addition of a horde mode address complaints of simplicity and replayability that the original title received, though fans of Alan Wake's story may feel that the game simply doesn't move forward enough.
