Successful iPhone games must offer quick, satisfying gameplay and an addictive quality to keep you coming back. Infinity Blade masters both, with short combat segments and a satisfying loop of self-improvement and challenge. Some might find the grind uninteresting, but as a tried-and-true gamer, I loved every second of Infinity Blade. Though the combat is interesting, leveling up my character is what ended up hooking me. Infinity Blade delivers one of the coolest experiences on iPhone and is a sure contender as one of the best mobile games ever made.

Michael Jackson: The Experience’s gameplay is a pretty direct copy of Elite Beat Agents. By which I mean it’s fun, challenging and the track list is filled with some of Michael's most recognizable hits. Sadly, though, the limited number of tracks and the poor visuals and audio fidelity keep this experience from being anything more than a briefly enjoyable distraction. If you can find Michael Jackson: The Experience for dirt cheap, consider picking it up. It won't last you for more than an hour. But honestly, you'd get more satisfaction out of buying Michael's albums and dancing to "Smooth Criminal" in your bedroom.

Michael Jackson: The Experience is a tremendously easy game that only necessitates two different buttons for the majority of every song. With a limited track list and lifeless visuals, it's hard to recommend Michael Jackson: The Experience over other PSP rhythm games, including Rock Band Unplugged and DJ Max Fever. That said, this isn't a broken game. The very simple controls work, and listening to "Smooth Criminal" is always a treat for me. But $30 is a very steep price for something that only lasts a couple hours. If you crave the King of Pop, buy his albums instead. You can even put those albums on your PSP!

Rune Factory 3 does little to change the franchise formula, and for me, someone new to it, that’s good enough. Still, I can imagine that longtime fans could be feeling more than a little burnt out, as it’s more of the same despite being the third entry on the DS. With the sizeable amount of activities and skills to work on, though, it gave me hours of enjoyment before it really started to wear on my patience. And even when it did, I still found myself answering the call to farm after a short break from the monotony. I don’t know if that makes me an addict, or what it says about my personality, but I don’t have time to think about it; I’ve got a sleeping skill to work on, a farm to tend, and more hours of my life to lose.

Create tries to stretch the family game in new directions, but the individual portions of the game feel like lesser versions of a lot of other titles on the market. Super Scribblenauts offers a less frustrating and more creative approach to problem solving; if you're into making your own world, The Sims offers you much more freedom by allowing you to build it how you'd like. And both of those games give you personality and characters that you can feel some attachment to and care about. Create feels like a hodge-podge of small ideas that don't add up to a satisfying whole.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift might reuse a good deal of content from Calamity Trigger, but it's still a blast to play and there are a lot of welcome additions. New characters, stages, modes, and story are just some of the reasons why BlazBlue fans should consider dropping the money on this "sequel." I especially encourage gamers that have never tried BlazBlue to pick this up -- it's an excellent fighting game that shouldn't be missed.

If you’ve already purchased the uDraw tablet, picking up Pictionary to complement it is a no-brainer. It’s a solid family game that features multiple game modes you’ll actually want to use. A nicely rounded package, Pictionary offers something for the less competitive like Free Draw, regular Pictionary for adults looking to kick their friends’ butts and to enrage even the most confident of artists there's Pictionary Mania.

You can see some fun poking out here and there in Nail’d. The in-air physics work largely as advertised and add some excitement, but the game still feels surprisingly boring most of the time. Without the benefit of exploration for new routes or any meaningful challenge to vehicle handling though, Nail'd gets tedious fast and stays there.

Let’s be honest: Splatterhouse was always the video game equivalent of an exploitation flick. In an era where games were dominated by perky platformers and colorful beat-em-ups, Splatterhouse was a breath of rotten air, full of gore, secondhand references to horror movie icons, and cheap thrills - sort of like the movies it took inspiration from. But, like so many horror remakes of the last few years, little of the original Splatterhouse’s charm has been left intact, and the half-baked mechanics and graphic content can’t make up the difference. Other games have managed to marry over-the-top violence and sex with sound game design, and Splatterhouse just feels like an imitator.

EA Sports Active 2 requires a lot of patience to make work right, and even when you think it’s perfect, you can expect occasional problems with the Kinect functionality. It’s a shame that it’s $100 like the other versions, as this feels overly expensive because it’s the only version that also requires additional, non-included peripherals (it does include a heartbeat sensor, at least). Still, if you have the will to make it work – and the significant amount of space it requires – Active 2 Kinect will burn calories, tire you out, and hell yes, it’ll make you sore. Next time around, though, I think it should come with an ice pack.

Super Meat Boy is one of the best modern platformers around. It's infuriating, exasperating, and arduous, but it's also delightful, thrilling, and hilarious. The NES games of yore were simultaneously simpler and more challenging than today's games, a quality perfectly emulated here. Invite some friends over and pass the controller around -- you're gonna need all the help you can get.

In spite of the moments where I lost my mind over a cheap death, I enjoyed Dead Nation. It's a thing of beauty to sit in a chokepoint and tear apart an army of zombies or watch a maxed out landmine go off several times and clear out dozens of roamers. Still, Dead Nation's missing that punch to really make it sing -- it has no personality and I never felt like I had to get back to playing it. The upgrades and loot are nice touches that make Dead Nation a deeper experience than most of its twin-stick zombie shooters brethren, but it still feels like just another zombie shooter in the end. My memories are a mix of having a ball trying to survive and being ready to quit the game once and for all in frustration.

It's true that Dragon’s Lair is one of early gaming's most important properties, but when you contextualize its importance, you'll realize that the game was a phenomenon because of how beautiful it looked. And that’s totally understandable. But Dragon’s Lair is a fish-out-of-water in today’s gaming market, and its appeal is entirely historical. For $10, you’re getting a couple of game modes (that are basically identical to one another) that can be played through on both Easy and Hard settings. The entire game on a flawless run can be experienced in about twenty minutes. Other minor tweaks that can be made won't change the experience much, either. Dragon’s Lair on PSN isn’t bound to create any new fans of the game; its appeal is strictly aimed at those who already like it. So unless you fall into the category of the nostalgic old-schooler or the well-played gaming historian, your $10 will undoubtedly be spent better elsewhere on the Network.
