Operation Wolf was well worth the drop of a quarter in its original arcade form, as it featured a large, cabinet-mounted replication Uzi as a controller and had a lot of personality as a result. But when Taito began to port the game to countless different home systems in the '80s, it lost a lot of its appeal. The NES edition was crippled in its visuals, in particular, and seemed disappointing in comparison to the coin-op version. And now that same NES edition is crippled even further if you don't have the light fun somewhere. With just a standard controller, Operation Wolf just doesn't work and never would without some sort retcon programming. Stay far, far away.

The original Discs of Tron is one of my favorite games ever made. Anyone who only experiences Discs of Tron through this poor port won't understand why this game was ever held in high regard. It's a shame that a classic could be given such poor treatment with meager graphics, bad sound, and inaccurate controls. The one new element, the online multiplayer, runs poorly and is no fun to play. All-in-all, one of the worst XBLA ports to date.

It'd be easy to roll your eyes at this decidedly kiddie game, but it's important to give Sony a pat on the back. Yeah, this title and its simplistic tasks are only going to entertain the young ones for a limited time, but even though I'd never play these games without the promise of a paycheck, it's nice to see Sony supporting a niche controller. Robojam isn't beautiful or deep, but it is a solid game for families to occasionally gather around, enjoy with the ankle biters and bicker over who gets to be the blue robot.

Since the decline of adventure games, it seems the classics of Sierra and LucasArts have managed to outshine a lot of equally deserving third-party titles. It might be hard to appreciate how impressive Under a Killing Moon was in 1994, but the approachable design, friendly hint system, and entertaining presentation have helped it to age gracefully, and it has weathered the test of time as one of the best detective games to this day.

Playing The Spiderwick Chronicles took me back to old-school adventure games like Alice in Wonderland on the Apple II. It recreates that feeling of being a kid and suspending your disbelief in fantasy. Much of this success in setting a mood and creating an intriguing world to explore is attributable to Holly Black's original books. But I have to give credit to developer Stormfront for creating a fun game to go inside the Spiderwick license. The graphics aren't much to look at, the environments need more variety, and checkpoints don't come along often enough. But there is a big area to delve into, the music is great, and there are lots of options in combat. There's something new to find around every corner, and that's something I can't say about enough games.

I can't help but see World Championship Paintball as anything beyond an obvious attempt to cash in on the general interest of paintball as a sport. Unfortunately, at no point does the game ever feel like it channels the intensity, chaos or appeal of the real thing. The game is an ugly, pointless waste of shelf occupying space, and the $20 THQ is charging would be better spent on an hour or so of real paintball at your nearest course. Stay far, far away.

If you get into The Club, you'll find an arcade shooter with a twist that can be played obsessively in search of high scores. I didn't find the hook all that appealing and felt left with a glorified shooting gallery. The idea is sound. There just isn't much to be excited about in the final product.

Though the focus might be more on Nero than Dante, and could've been named something else with a Dante cameo, DMC4 still has everything that fans expect of the game – over the top fight sequences, tons of replayability and an experience with an excellent production value. Whether it's on the PS3 or the 360, action fans are going to get one incredible experience with this game, and if you own either system, you'll have a great time.

So this is another case of the not-such-a-sequel phenomenon, where the second installment in a franchise ends up being pretty much just a direct extension of the first game. Adventures of Lolo 2 is still an impressive, addictive puzzle action experience that deserves at least as high a score as the original, and it's worth a look for players who blazed through that quest and are hungry for yet more.

Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers is very likely the last version of Street Fighter II that will come to the Virtual Console, as it's the last version of the game made in the '90s for the SNES. It's possible that Capcom will present the SNES version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 at some point in the future, too, but that game's part of the Alpha series and differs quite a bit from this earlier design. So that makes this version the last of II, and the best of II on the VC. If you haven't yet spent 800 Wii Points on any of the different Street Fighter II downloads, this is the one to get. It took them over a year and we had to wait through two past editions of the same experience, but this third time is, at last, the charm.
