JoJo’s exhibits a flagrant disregard for rules - both visual and mechanical - and for that, I truly love it. It can, at times, seem completely alien and imbalanced, but even then, it manages such consummate showmanship, it’s difficult to fault it too harshly. It is by no means a comprehensive, or polished fighting game, but it is a uniquely enjoyable one; exhibiting rare style and creativity in battle, even as it struggles to meet the standards set by other modern fighters.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is yet another example of what happens when games are rushed out to coincide with a movie release date. It’s especially frustrating because the web swinging really is fun, but developer Beenox wasn’t able to keep the momentum going once you hit the ground. The next time there's an Amazing Spider-Man movie, hopefully combat can be brought up to snuff, since there's plenty of promise in the air.

Mercenary Kings is a slick old-school inspired shooter that has one foot in the past, and the other firmly planted in the present. Its high level of difficulty, catchy tunes, and pixelated graphics meld nicely with its emphasis on loot, customization, and online play. While some control issues get in the way, it comes highly recommended to those looking for a fun side-scrolling shooter to play, or folks simply looking for a taste of the games of yore.

There are several good actual-stealth games for iOS (notably Republique) that offer something closer to the Hitman experience even without 47 himself around. Hitman Go, however, is a fine, challenging puzzle game that offers both a new way of plying his dark trade and many levels on which to do it. Avoid if trial and error rubs you the wrong way or the boardgame aesthetic doesn't charm, but this is otherwise a fine mobile cousin to fill the gap until 47's next real hit.

I concluded my NES Remix review with a plea for more Remix, saying that "Punch-Out!!, Kid Icarus and Metroid were cruelly ignored." Happily, NES Remix has returned and those three games are included in the lineup – but it turns out that better games don't necessarily make for better remixes. Nevertheless, it's great that Nintendo greenlighted the Remix crew to mess with more of its masterpieces in NES Remix 2. According to NES Remix director Koichi Hayashida, it looks like Super Nintendo Remix and Game Boy Advance Remix could actually happen, if there's enough demand for more: So here I am at the end of another NES Remix review, officially demanding more.

Ether One is a fine addition to the burgeoning exploration genre, with a basic path to follow if you just want to be told a story and see a beautifully designed world, puzzles to add more meat than we usually see in its contemporaries, and enough company via voiceover to take much of the loneliness out of the solitary wander. It's not a cheery story, but it's one well told and worth at least the three or so hours it takes to appreciate without the sometimes unintuitive puzzles, or as long as they take to solve.

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil might feel like a step back to anyone coming from the next-gen versions of FIFA 14, but for those who haven’t yet upgraded, it represents an improvement on the annual release. Meanwhile, fans looking to cheer their team on this summer will get a kick out of the sizzling carnival atmosphere it generates.

Trials Fusion is at once mercilessly exacting, and regularly thrilling. It allows you to exert an impressive level of control over your rider, and leverages that control to create nuanced, challenging tracks that beg to be run, and re-run until perfection is attained. The later levels lose some of the over-the-top fun of the earlier ones, but overall, Trials Fusion offers a fun, deeply challenging experience with lots to see and do.

The thrill of planning my assault on the beaches of boom caught me off guard. I was surprised to find myself putting as much thought into these assaults as I would into troop placement in a game of Risk. Boom Beach can kept me enthralled for a time, giving moments of memorable excitement. It can't, however, stay out of its own way. The growing wall of requirements and the pace of progression kept this mobile version of the Pacific Theater from becoming one of my favorite mobile games, but it does have a home on my iPhone.

Football Manager Classic 2014 performs decently as both a companion app to the PC version and as a good standalone game in its own right. It’s true that this surprisingly feature-packed portable effort does have a few issues - the small text and fiddly touch controls being the main offenders - but the core experience of tactical battles, financial and man management remains as addictive as ever.

Lego The Hobbit won’t surprise fans of the Lego series, but the new gameplay systems add just enough complexity to keep things interesting. New events and mining opportunities make exploration of the open world almost as fun as the main missions. The storytelling presumes you already know the source material by heart, which means things are sometimes a bit disjointed, and the game, like the movies it’s based on, ends at an awkward place. But like almost all the Lego games, this is a journey worth taking.
