Ninja Council 4 is – you guessed it – quite a lot like Ninja Council 3 was two years ago, and therein lies the problem. While the first game was a decent preliminary effort on DS, the sequel ups the presentation while leaving the same clunky gameplay in tact, which ultimately lends itself to a “more of the same” experience that just isn’t as good as it could have been. We already know of two stronger Naruto games on the way (Ninja Destiny 2 for DS, and Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 for Wii), so while this anime offering isn’t too hot there’s plenty of strong Shippuden action headed to both handheld and console later this year. The dated, mechanical gameplay and déjà vu feeling just doesn’t offer enough evolution from Ninja Council 3.
