Blazing Chrome is an instant classic. In no small way has JoyMasher lovingly captured the sound and fury of classic Contra in a way that feels truly authentic. Despite the lack of online co-op, my biggest gripe with Blazing Chrome is that the sequel isn’t already out. I’m already yearning for more, whether in future DLC or sequels, which says nothing but good things about how JoyMasher handled this masterful throwback.

Gráficamente sobresaliente, con una jugabilidad y dificultad muy dignas, Blazing Chrome es sin duda un oferta muy interesante para disfrutar de un homenaje a los clásicos shooters 2D de los años 90. Un título indispensable si queremos pasar buenas tardes en compañía de un amigo gracias también a su modo multijugador local.

Blazing Chrome es un buen juego no porque rescate una fórmula exitosa y clásica del Run'n'gun, sino por recrearla con un estupendo diseño de niveles y mecánicas que en todo momento buscan la exigencia del jugador, con una dificultad muy bien medida. JoyMasher quiere que te pases su juego. Aunque eso significa continuaciones infinitas, los momentos en los que aparecemos están perfectamente escogidos para que sientas el reto y la mejora mediante la práctica y el aprendizaje de patrones. Una vez finalizada la aventura, es donde el arcade comienza y esta máquina del tiempo te lleva por completo a ese pasado que tanto ansía mostrarte y tanto ansías revivir.

Blazing Chrome schmiegt sich so dicht an Contra 3 an, wie es geht, ohne dass Konamis Anwälte aktiv werden müssen. Das 16-Bit-Retrodesign, die sehr direkte Kontrolle über die Figuren, die verwendeten Effekte, das Figurendesign, der Koop-Modus und einiges mehr wecken sofort Assoziationen an den SNES-Klassiker, der hierzulande seinerzeit mit leicht veränderten Grafikassets als Super Probotector veröffentlicht wurde. Nicht zu vergessen der Schwierigkeitsgrad, der bereits auf „Normal“, der mittleren von drei Stufen, ähnlich fordert wie vor über 25 Jahren auf der Nintendo-Konsole. Mit nur einem halben Dutzend Levels, deren Reihenfolge in der Anfangsphase aber immerhin frei wählbar ist, fällt Blazing Chrome allerdings sehr überschaubar aus. Als kleiner Action-Happen für zwischendurch absolut brauchbar – jedoch sollte man im Hinterkopf behalten, dass die Contra Anniversary Collection nur wenig mehr kostet und deutlich mehr Inhalt bietet.

Blazing Chrome is an modern take on classic run and gun arcade classics. It’s difficult to ignore the strong influence Contra had on the game’s development, but either because of or in spite of this it’s still a lot of fun to play, especially on co-op. Anyone who wants something new with the classic Contra or Metal Slug style gameplay can’t go wrong with Blazing Chrome, but even though it’s a good time, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the party.
