Sonic Dream Team packs a surprising amount of fun into a limited number of levels. By having you complete a diverse set of missions within them, it manages to keep things feeling fresh from start to finish even as you play through the same areas numerous times. Its missions are engaging enough that I went back to finish off the handful I’d missed as soon as I conquered Eggman. While the music and story presentation could have been better, and the touchscreen controls aren’t ideal as the difficulty increases toward the end, Sonic Dream Team has still sped onto my list of favorite 3D platformers I’ve played in quite some time.

Considerando i molti alti e bassi attraversati dalla serie, Sonic Dream Team potrebbe trovare posto tra i capitoli della serie principale e non sfigurerebbe rispetto a molti altri. Bisogna considerare che si tratta di una particolare interpretazione del platform 3D classico, che si pone in un punto intermedio tra la declinazione mobile in stile endless runner e il gioco a piattaforme più strutturato e complesso, più vicino a quest'ultimo che all'altro. Il risultato è un'esperienza di Sonic semplificata, ma che esegue alla perfezione l'imperativo originale del "gotta go fast", cercando in tutti i modi di non rallentare la corsa del giocatore anche attraverso un design dei livelli costruito per essere una sorta di ottovolante e un sistema di controllo accessibile. Sonic Dream Team scorre via velocissimo, anche troppo in fretta a dire il vero, sebbene non manchino strade alternative e personaggi differenti con cui tornare ad esplorare i suoi sogni.
