Kao the Kangaroo è un platform solido e colorato, che richiama senza mistero agli anni di PSX e PS2. Anzi, diciamo meglio, si fa forza del suo non aver ceduto alle sirene della modernità. In questo è un gioco onestissimo: la ripresa di un franchise di medio successo degli anni passati che guarda soprattutto ai giocatori di lunga data e a chi è alla ricerca di un'esperienza classica, che scorra via bella e leggera, lasciando soltanto un retrogusto malinconico alle sue spalle. Inevitabilmente ha dei limiti e non pochi problemi, soprattutto a livello di pulizia generale, ma nondimeno riesce a essere proprio quello che si proponeva di essere, il che difficilmente è un male.

Kao the Kangaroo is a well-meaning game, and despite some missteps, it is in my opinion one of the better 3D platformers of modern gaming. Heck, I’ll go as far as to say that I enjoyed Kao far more than I did the recent Crash 4, which was an incredible disappointment to me. For what Tate Multimedia is charging for this game, I say Kao the Kangaroo is easily worth buying for any 3D platforming enthusiast.

Schön, dass immer mehr Studios ihre alten Hüpfmaskottchen aus dem Ruhestand holen. Dass selbst Randfiguren wie Kao the Kangaroo eine zweite Chance verdient haben, beweist sein neues Abenteuer allemal. In seiner Kernkompetenz kann der neue 3D-Plattformer meist überzeugen. Beim präzisen Hüpfen durch Lagunen und über schwebende Felsen entfaltet sich ein schöner, klassischer Spielfluss mit passend eingeflochtenen Rätseln. In puncto Abwechslung zieht Kao aber klar den Kürzeren gegen professioneller designte Persönlichkeiten wie Mario, Crash & Co. Ein weiterer Minuspunkt sind die simpel gestrickten Fließband-Kämpfe gegen oft überforderte Standardgegner. Trotz einiger Mankos bietet das Jump’n’Run aber das passende Programm für einen entspannten Nostalgie-Trip in eine einfachere Zeit. Ich frage mich, welcher Hüpf-Oldie wohl als nächstes zurückkehrt? Ich bin zumindest noch lange nicht satt!
