Like most rogue-lites, it’s all about synergy. I haven’t had any game-breaking/god-like builds, but each time I’ve completed a full temple I almost always had a good weapon combination with high damage and a consistent way to gain health. The game is very challenging and offers tons of replayability even if the beginning feels a little strung out. Each run feels unique but if you want a break from the regular temple runs you could attempt one of the daily challenge runs. Curse of the Dead Gods isn’t for everyone but if you’re a fan of combat-focused rogue-lites then this should definitely be on your radar. It has the potential to be in the upper echelon of the genre; in order for it truly get there the developers will need to give the game regular content updates, which seems like the norm for the top games in the genre. Whether they do or not the game has a solid foundation built around a weighty combat system and a slick-looking art style. Even after playing the game almost exclusively over the past two weeks, I’m still staying up way too late saying “oh, just one more level”.

If you haven’t played Crash 4 yet, this is a competent version of the game if you don’t mind the drastically reduced visuals. However, it is slightly more glitchy and more difficult due to reduced visual clarity and the halved frame rate.

Loop Hero è un videogioco indipendente sviluppato da Four Quarters Team per Devolver Digital. Si tratta di un riuscitissimo ibrido fra Idle Rpg in terza persona, gestionale e deck builder di stampo fantasy e in pixel art. Semplice nella messa in pratica, difficile da padroneggiare e assolutamente assuefacente. Le ore, in Loop Hero, passano senza che ce ne accorgiamo. Il gioco risulta bilanciato quasi alla perfezione e la sua ibridazione, invece che spezzare il ritmo dell’azione e della narrazione, concorre a far incollare al monitor il giocatore. A proposito della narrazione, vogliamo rivolgere un plauso a chi ha scritto questa storia che renderebbe orgoglioso Michael Ende, autore de La Storia Infinita. La trama non è affatto banale, né scontata. Spinge alla riflessione e intriga parecchio. Di più: è talmente bene inserita tra le pieghe del flusso di gioco, che accompagna anche durante il cambio di fase (da idle rpg a gestionale, per esempio). Ogni interruzione aggiunge qualcosa che arricchisce l’esperienza, senza mai risultare invadente. Loop Hero si candida tranquillamente come uno dei più bei videogiochi indipendenti del 2021. Senza “se” e senza “ma”.

Apex Legends per Nintendo Switch è una conversione venuta male, c'è poco da girarci intorno. Sono ormai alcuni anni che sembra si faccia a gara a portare sulla console ibrida esperienze disegnate per hardware sostanzialmente più prestanti, con team di sviluppo che in questo modo cercano di dimostrare il proprio talento ma sfornano prodotti che anche nella migliore delle ipotesi non possono essere accostati agli originali per dettaglio e fluidità. In questo caso, peraltro, le mancanze tecniche si riflettono in maniera evidente sul gameplay, rendendolo approssimativo e caotico. Immaginiamo che questa versione di Apex Legends verrà migliorata con qualche aggiornamento ben assestato, ma per il momento la domanda che sorge spontanea è soltanto una: ce n'era davvero bisogno?

Un gioco basato su un concetto di base molto semplice e che una volta tanto è stato adeguatamente evoluto in un'esperienza interessante, seppur intrinsecamente ripetitiva. Ottimo per sessioni mordi-e-fuggi, con sufficiente spazio per approfondire le sue bizzarre meccaniche. In caso vi "acchiappi" c'è da giocare per molte ore, tra trama, elementi da sbloccare e tanto spazio per la sperimentazione. Il tutto in un tripudio di pixel-art che strizza pesantemente l'occhio ai vecchi tempi dei computer Amiga.
