Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley is a short yet refreshing adventure game whose whimsical world and cast of characters make for a cozy evening gaming session. While the gameplay is simplistic and doesn’t leave much room for deep thought, its strength lies in its ability to allow the player to stop and smell the virtual flowers, taking in the beauty of nature.

While Nobody Wants to Die is not a long game, that short length has allowed the developers to pack in a solid detective story and a beautifully designed world with surprisingly deep lore. The investigation mechanics aren’t the best, but don’t let that put you off this slick, quick love letter to old-school detective films.

Crow Country riesce a unire il meglio della new wave di videogiochi horror ispirati ai titoli dell'epoca PlayStation con delle scelte molto moderne e un flow da sogno, che per circa sei ore sa trascinare il giocatore in un'avventura suggestiva. Si rifà ai classici del genere, e prende qualche ispirazione dal cinema, per presentare un titolo che ha ben pochi difetti. Dopo Signalis, un altro horror indie che è destinato a diventare un piccolo cult per il perfetto mix che è riuscito a mettere insieme.

Nobody Wants to Die est une expérience fort appréciable, de surcroît pour un premier jeu. Le studio souhaitait parvenir à livrer une œuvre immersive et bien écrite, le pari est réussi. Sans jouer dans l’originalité, les références sont trop explicites pour cela, le soft attire par son magnifique univers rétro-futuriste, avant de nous agripper avec un duo de personnages finement écrit et interprété. Les quelques séquences de gameplay ont le mérite d’être plaisantes, notamment les phases d’enquête profitant de la mécanique du bracelet temporel vraiment stylée, à défaut de réellement nous impliquer de par leur facilité. Cependant, difficile d’ignorer les défauts sur la narration et la mise en scène, l’intrigue qui va trop vite, ainsi que des thématiques qui méritaient meilleur traitement. Un jeu qui devrait plaire aux amoureux de films noir et de dystopie cyberpunk malgré tout.

There’s some fun to be had with Parkitect: Deluxe Edition, but the glaring issues and dodgy controls make this one tough to recommend. Stick to the brilliant PC version instead.

The Operator est sans doute LE jeu d’enquête narratif pas très cher qu’il faut absolument faire cet été. Avec une histoire prenante, une écriture bien ciselée et des énigmes franchement malines, le titre de Bureau 81 est une petite pépite vidéoludique indépendante à ne manquer sous aucun prétexte. Bien qu’il soit court et qu’il subsiste des écueils dans certains éléments de gameplay sous-exploités ainsi que dans l’interface, The Operator est malgré tout toujours prenant. On restera certes sur notre faim vis-à-vis de l’histoire ornée d’un cliffhanger mais qu’importe, l’ambiance immersive et la simplicité de son gameplay nous accrochent jusqu’au bout, tout en restant diablement plaisant du début à la fin.

Tokyo Xanadu eX+ on the Switch offers an enhanced action RPG experience with a captivating combat system, new English localization, and a high-quality port. Set in the fictional Morimiya, the game combines intriguing narrative elements with dynamic character interactions. Despite lacking a unique identity and having some repetitive aspects, the game excels in its polished combat and replayability. This Switch port is an excellent opportunity for new players to experience this underrated gem, making it a must-play for fans of Falcom's works.

Lo ammetto, il giocatore e il “bambino” che sono in me vorrebbero dare un voto più alto, ma devo anche distaccarmi e rendermi conto che nonostante le lievi differenze in termini di trama Earth Defense Force è sempre lo stesso gioco da anni, mentre il livello della componente tecnica è ormai difficile da giustificare. Di contro, se piace l’idea di fermare orde infinite di nemici con l’uso (non) misurato della forza questo è un gioco quasi perfetto. La sensazione di fare la differenza all’interno di un conflitto, l’esaltazione di portare devastazione a livelli esilaranti a orde di nemici è qualcosa dona piacevoli scariche di adrenalina. Se si riesce a superare il fastidio per un comparto tecnico decisamente carente, si tratta di un gioco che offre davvero molto.

Earth Defense Force 6 is a pretty basic game, but what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in silly fun. Blowing up hordes and buildings with your buddy, using these wildly unbalanced weapons, all while losing our minds anytime the game tries to do cool things in the story, it all makes for an excellent experience in co-op. So really we feel we can only recommend this if you have someone to play with. You’re going to be buying a game that is extremely unpolished but will give you literal hours of laughing together with a friend and that’s worth every penny to be honest. Try EDF6 with a friend if you think this would be appealing to you. Just maybe try playing on PlayStation 4 or 5 instead for the smoother experience.

Nobody Wants to Die’s relatively brief story isn’t a completely original concept, but it has a cool mix of inspirations and unique worldbuilding touches that all work well together to create something new and engaging. There’s a bit too much hand-holding for a game about the art of investigation, but its conversation system picks up the slack with humor, unexpected outcomes, and a surprisingly deep story about how impactful your past can be on your present — even when you’re facing immortality.

Kunitsu Gami : Path of the Godess parvient à mélanger l’action et la stratégie de manière très brillante et parvient à nous surprendre de manière continue afin d’éviter une lassitude certaine. Bien que le cœur du gameplay soit identique, les détails changent, changeant ainsi toute la dimension stratégique. Si l’on peut penser que les coups d’épée sont au centre du jeu il n’en est rien. C’est la mise en place des divers éléments qui sont les plus importants, sans oublier la gestion de vos ressources. De plus, la gestion cyclique jour/nuit est brillamment utilisé et la direction artistique colle parfaitement avec les différents cycles pour notre plus grande immersion. Cependant, la difficulté non linéaire est assez compliquée à gérer et peut rebuter les moins patients.

I think I get it now. Earth Defence Force is like the conventionally unattractive partner you experimented with in your youth. They were so grateful for your attention, and in turn, really knew how to show their appreciation. A genuine guilty pleasure of the kind that you might be a bit sheepish to introduce to friends because they buck the trend of traditional beauty (and they just sound a bit weird). But goddamn it, you grew from having indulged the relationship with the ugly duckling. It’s great coming back to that partner as I settle into adulthood. They don’t give a shit about how they look, are mostly stable, have a pleasant demeanour, and still aim to please by exploding all over my jorts. Reviewed on PS5 // Review code supplied by publisher
