Fantasme de bien des joueurs avides de J-RPG de la fin des années 90, le mythe Seiken Densetsu 3 s'offre avec Trials of Mana une relecture fidèle, au capital sympathie indéniable, mais qui peine à convaincre sur la longueur. Nostalgie mise à part, il s'agit d'un titre en dessous de l’œuvre originale sur tous les points essentiels : la mise en scène des moments clé de l'aventure trahit un manque de moyens flagrant et les combats, pourtant très bourrins, manquent de punch et sont à l'origine de quelques frustrations, merci l'IA alliée qui n'en fait qu'à sa tête. En ressort un titre honnête, mais largement dispensable pour qui a déjà parcouru "Secret of Mana 2" via la Collection of Mana de la Switch, ou par des moyens moins orthodoxes...

Chimera Squad experiments with smaller encounters, more unique characters, and a change in the combat order with remarkable success. Although still weighed down by the traditional issues of the series, Chimera Squad excels in what it set out to achieve and is an incredibly satisfying tactical game.

Spuds Unearthed ultimately feels like a weird paradox of a game that knows exactly what it is as well as having no idea on what it wants to be. In the end, it feels like a convoluted mess that could be more fun and engaging if they just cleaned up and simplified the design a bit. Lack of guidance and clumsy controls further bring down a concept that could look good on paper. However, even without these issues, there is a concern about the longevity of the title, particularly due to its choice to go asynchronous. I imagine the decision was made due to the limitation of the hardware but I would not expect many people talking about this game after a couple weeks let alone months to come, which would be concerning for a game with multiplayer. Finally, due to its complexity and weird mashup of genres, I’m not quite sure who to recommend this game too either (unless you are of course, a fan of classical potato war epics), but I’m going to have to insist that you pass on the fries this time.
