There’s no doubt that Visual Concepts have an affinity for the world of sports entertainment. The huge roster, plethora of modes and atmosphere they’ve created here is admirable. Unfortunately, the technical side brings the whole thing crashing down, with glitchy, broken mechanics and some bizarrely woeful representations of the stars that are an obvious step down from previous entries. Even die hard WWE fans (such as myself) will struggle to maintain much interest here, which is a huge shame.

If you're a fan of the previous titles, go ahead and buy Iron Rain, you're not going to be disappointed by this one. If you're not a rabid fan of giant bugs, give it a miss or pick it up in a sale. It's a giggle after all if a little frustrating.

There’s a possibility that Destiny Connect: Tick Tock Travelers won’t sell well. As a new property with only a scant promotional push and a sensibility entrenched in yesteryear’s role-playing games, the title faces an uphill battle. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare è un ottimo capitolo della serie, forte di una Campagna in singolo divertente, varia e ben strutturata (seppur non lunghissima) e di un comparto multiplayer ricco sia di contenuti, sia di novità. Se le Spec-Ops rimangono un po’ sbilanciate, Scontro e Guerra terrestre sono due novità nella serie molto apprezzabili (soprattutto la prima), ma anche la straordinaria personalizzazione delle armi e il design della mappe decisamente labirintico non passano inosservati. Difetti grandi non ce ne sono, ma il nuovo approccio al PvP più tattico e ragionato, il time to kill decisamente basso e una curva di “apprendimento” delle mappe molto ripida potrebbero scontentare alcuni fan di vecchia data.

Non aspettatevi, da The Outer Worlds, la carica innovativa di un The Witcher 3, di un Red Dead Redemption 2 o di un Breath of the Wild: nel gioco di Obsidian Entertainment non troverete assolutamente nulla di tutto ciò (ed è quasi ovvio ribadirlo, ma di questi tempi…). Eppure, pur coi suoi contrasti, si tratta di un’avventura spaziale divertente, ben confezionata e che ha il suo perché, specie per gli appassionati di un certo tipo di narrativa sci-fi, ricca di umorismo e citazionismi, che sapranno già a cosa vanno incontro. Quel che vi ritroverete davanti è una sorta di “gemello diverso” della serie Fallout, fatto di una storia a suo modo coinvolgente, pur lenta a ingranare, una scrittura intelligente e la solita tonnellata di contenuti che ci si aspetta da un videogioco di questo tipo. Di converso, The Outer Worlds non è affatto scevro di difetti, dovuti per la maggior parte a valori produttivi non così elevati e a un generale impianto tradizionale e tradizionalista, da sempre marchio di fabbrica dello studio di Irvine. Difetti che, una volta compresi e assimilati, possono diventare addirittura un modo per apprezzarne di più i pregi, che diventano del tutto chiari solo sulla lunga distanza. A quel punto, però, lo avrete già abbandonato, o ve ne sarete innamorati, a seconda dei casi.

The Outer Worlds is a kooky space opera with beautiful aesthetics, a deeply engaging cast of characters, and a tightly focused storyline. Kick the hornets' nest, smoke the insects out, or sneak past: your choice might just topple a mega-corporation or two.
