À moins d’avoir des enfants en bas âge fans de Pokémon, il est difficile de recommander Le retour de Détective Pikachu, qui nous ressert, à peu de choses près, ce café sans saveur et sans intensité qu’était Détective Pikachu premier du nom. Le charme de ce Pikachu à la casquette d’enquêteur et les interactions avec les Pokémon ne sont pas suffisants pour nous convaincre. En dehors de sa répétitivité et de son dirigisme, il gagnerait à être dans la lignée du film sorti en 2019.

What’s new in NHL 24 shows a lot of promise. The Exhaust Engine introduces satisfying mechanics that make games feel more intense, though refinement to its balance is needed to keep the defensive team competitive. The improved checking system and inclusion of HUT Moments are significant features as well. However, most of the returning game modes remain nearly untouched from the last couple of years and the introduction of a battle pass, along with some annoyingly long wait times to get into games, make it harder to cheer for.

NHL 24 puts all of its pucks into the online play basket, so only players who fall into that category will find some excitement this year. The new controls and pressure mechanics leave something to be desired, and the complete lack of offline mode changes is baffling, as are the still incredibly slow menus.

Sports games are pretty predictable. From one year to the next, you’ll see one or two sweeping changes and then a number of smaller tweaks, but beyond that, you’ll by and large be playing the same title. By that logic, it’s actually impressive how much EA Vancouver has managed to change this year given how quick its turnaround is from game to game. Less impressive is the implementation of said changes. Selecting your pass targets is a wholly welcome inclusion and a rousing success. The majority of the other changes, particularly the new checking system, leave much to be desired. Why do so many things feel like they took steps backward? Isn’t this kind of problem usually reserved for the dawn of a new generation? What happened?

Disgaea 7 improves upon its predecessor by building a balanced and more complete roster than what we’ve become used to, but unfortunately it falls apart in other areas. The main issue comes down to the story and cast of characters. Almost everyone is forgettable in some way, with few appealing characteristics that make them unique. For example, one is a strong mentor to the protagonist who loves candy, and that’s virtually her entire personality with no meaningful advancement. Obviously there are character building scenarios in the later portion of the campaign, but we just completely forgot some of the cast were even along for the ride. This might have something to do with the lack of character interactions, with the removal of both skits and in-game scenes. Thankfully, what shines the brightest is the combat as it features a rewarding system where you have to work to use the reworked auto-battle system. There are some changes that are disappointing, but generally speaking, it remains a highly-strategic and engaging experience. In the end, Disgaea 7 is a remarkable SRPG with an unremarkable story that gives you little reason to move past Alliance of Vengeance.

Pur non essendo un trionfo di originalità e innovazione, Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless è un ritorno alla complessità che ha fatto della serie Nippon Ichi una delle più amate nel genere degli strategici a turni. Lo sviluppatore giapponese ha messo il cuore in questa iterazione che, nonostante i suoi limiti tecnici, garantirà ai fan sfegatati di Disgaea tantissime soddisfazioni. Lo consigliamo anche agli amanti del genere che si avvicinano per la prima volta a questo marchio, ma li dobbiamo avvertire che la scalata è ripida e il gioco si prende i suoi tempi, anche piuttosto maldestramente, prima di ingranare davvero la marcia.

Disgaea 7 hace autocrítica de muchas de las razones por las que podría ser difícil jugar a algún capítulo de la saga, y no solo a su campaña, sino a lo que viene después. Se agradecen los cambios y los añadidos. Es un SRPG exigente, divertido, completo y profundo, en el que todo se entiende mejor, hay más alternativas y el grindeo no es tan excesivo. Para mí, es el ideal para meterse en este mundillo. Sin embargo, toca renovar más a fondo la licencia cambiando gráficos y optimizando tanto la jugabilidad y la presentación para las próximas entregas.

Disgaea 7 offers up yet another enjoyable entry in the long-running series, offering up a more refined take on the famously in-depth gameplay systems. New mechanics such as Jumbification add some interesting wrinkles to the SRPG battles, while new modes like competitive ranked online bring even more playability to a game that’ll take you hundreds of hours to see to completion. Perhaps best of all, Disgaea 7 is very newcomer-friendly, though we will add that the very deliberate and measured approach to min-maxing isn’t for everyone. Whether you’re looking for an excellent new RPG to sink a lot of time into or you’ve been a fan of Disgaea since the PS2 days, Disgaea 7 is a worthwhile entry that we’d recommend you pick up when you can.

NHL 24 NHL 24 è la nuova iterazione della serie tradizionalmente più sperimentale di EA Sports. Con questa edizione il team di sviluppo non si discosta dal percorso intrapreso negli anni, mettendo sul piatto un titolo ricco, estremamente accessibile e palesemente divertente. Ovviamente, come tutti gli sportivi annuali, la portata innovativa non è così marcata come si sarebbe auspicato. Tuttavia il maggiore traguardo è proprio essere riusciti a trasmettere le sensazioni di uno sport così frenetico, grazie alle idee introdotte con l'Exhaust Engine e non solo. Un titolo che dunque risulta consigliabile per tutti gli amanti dell'hockey, ma anche (e soprattutto) per chi vuole avvicinarsi al rink per la prima volta. Detective Pikachu Returns serves up more of what delighted us first time around, with an endearing and exciting story packed full of fun and light-hearted silliness. We really do enjoy this gruff, coffee-addled take on Pikachu, he never fails to raise a smile when he goes off on one, and the game successfully straddles a very thin line in giving us an adventure aimed at younger players that long-time Pokémon fans and ancient gamers such as ourselves can also enjoy. If you can handle the inherent repetitiveness of most of the core gameplay, alongside some rather drab visuals, you'll enjoy this one.

Detective Pikachu is full of simple puzzes, witty dialogue and Pokemon to discover. It won't thrill older fans from a gameplay perspective, and it's visually inconsistent, but it will likely introduce throusands of young fans to a whole new genre of video games.

Detective Pikachu: El regreso me demuestra que algo tiene que cambiar en las producciones dentro de la saga Pokémon, tanto en términos de dedicación como de exigencia. No es un mal título, y para el fan más fiel de la saga puede significar un juego interesante, sobre todo por la forma (a veces brillante) en que hace uso de sus personajes. No obstante, es necesario decir que no es un lanzamiento convincente, con un planteamiento irregular, ausencia de dificultad, una jugabilidad poco estimulante y un acabado audiovisual muy mejorable.
