Modern Warfare 3’s campaign commits the biggest sin possible for a globe-trotting action thriller: it's boring. What had the promise to be an intriguingly spun web of mystery instead ends up being a dusty cobweb you'd find at the back of your shed, clinging onto 15-year-old garden toys you once had fun with. It's a pale imitation of the past, made up of underbaked story moments that clash with attempts to introduce new open combat missions designed to encourage player freedom that instead fall flat on their face. Yes, the gunplay is still great and the graphics and sound design are top-tier, but I couldn't help but feel I was playing a shinier, less subtle version of something I've played too many times before. If this is the quality we've come to expect from Call of Duty campaigns, maybe it's for the best if a year or two is taken to reset and raise this low bar back to the heights of old.

Call of Duty : Modern Warfare III nous fait penser qu’il aurait peut-être dû rester un simple DLC de l’opus précédent, tant l’ambition est absente. Nous avons le droit à une campagne cinématographique, mais qui est moins épique et se termine rapidement. On ne retiendra que le multijoueur qui joue trop sur la nostalgie d’un Modern Warfare 2, mais qui a un gameplay vraiment bon, hormis le sniper. Par contre, en ce qui concerne le mode Zombies, ce dernier n’est qu’un skin du mode DMZ et est vraiment décevant.

Sur le papier, avec son solo, son multijoueur et son Zombie, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 se présente comme un package assez complet, et c’est quelque part ce qu’il est. En marge d’une campagne dispensable et de quelques ajustements à revoir (notamment sur le temps de mise à mort), nous avons pris du plaisir sur les deux pans en ligne de cet épisode. Bien que misant avant tout sur une formule nostalgique, avec ses cartes et ses features d’antan, difficile de ne pas tomber amoureux, une nouvelle fois, de ces sensations de shoot toujours aussi réussies. Le Zombie de son côté, bien que copier-coller sur Warzone et DMZ, s’avère agréable et plutôt prenant… Au final, dans ce titre aux airs de “grosse extension”, il y a bien quelques qualités ! Mais celles-ci apparaîtront seulement si Call of Duty n’est pas votre titre de chevet. Pour les fans en possession de Modern Warfare 2, c’est franchement discutable.

In the ‘80s and ‘90s, Yu Suzuki’s arcade games helped propel gaming into the third dimension. Coin-ops like Space Harrier, Out Run, and After Burner felt innovative, each dazzling the senses as they tested reflexes for a few fleeting moments. Air Twister, the pioneer’s latest, does little to advance the basic formula. Expectedly. It looks and sounds better and attempts to inject long-term incentive. But this feels like the arcade pioneer coasting rather than truly tapping into his creative spirit.

Air Twister is a fun and interesting modernisation of Space Harrier. The music by Valensia although at first seemed out of place suits the 80’s vibe this game exudes with the bright colours and vibrancy. It maintains the tricky increasing gaming difficulty of the older games and throws in some rogue-lite elements to level the playing field and help add some replay value to the game.

No intentéis comparar este juego con nada reciente. Air Twister es una pieza única, el producto del capricho de una mente genial que, si consigue conectar contigo, hará que tu imaginación vuele sin más preocupaciones. Si no... Bueno, siempre te habrá interesado ver un elefante con alas.
