Samba de Amigo: Party Central es un juego musical divertidísimo y que respeta a la perfección el clásico. Guarda la esencia del original e introduce ligeros cambios que le sientan genial. Con muchos modos de juego, tanto como para un jugador, como para multijugador local y online, es una opción fantástica para los fans del género. Uno de los juegos del verano y uno de los más entretenidos del catálogo de Nintendo Switch.

Before playing The Making of Karateka, I had no interest in Karateka beyond it being a historical stepping stone to Prince of Persia. But I get it now. I I see its many parts: The animation that was hand drawn from Jordan Mechner’’s snapshots of his family’s karate instructor; the music that began as a fatherly lesson in Wagner’s leitmotifs; and the cinematic framing of a story that cuts between scenes in a far more complicated way than, say, the “They Meet” cutscene in Ms. Pac-Man. Karateka is significant, but the story behind it is remarkable, and The Making of Karateka tells that story in the coolest way possible.

The Making of Karateka è la summa del lavoro di Digital Eclipse svolto nel corso degli anni per concepire un modello di documentario interattivo replicabile e coinvolgente. Riesce a elevare il suo oggetto, svelandone anche i lati più nascosti, ma senza essere mai pedante. Coinvolge quando informa e rivoluziona il modo con cui si fruisce il gioco, aggiungendo anche delle novità che arricchiscono ulteriormente l'esperienza, come i prototipi e le rimasterizzazioni. Più in generale, la formula di Digital Eclipse sembra essere la migliore in assoluto per raccontare la storia dei videogiochi, intensa nella sua totalità e nella particolarità dei singoli titoli, perché permette di dare finalmente una dimensione ai classici, al di là di tutti i possibili discorsi nati negli anni intorno agli stessi.

Sea of Stars a tout de l'excellent hommage aux plus grands noms du jeu de rôle japonais des années 90. Une histoire bien rythmée, un casting de personnages auquel on s'attache vite pour leurs personnalités assumées. Il arrive à faire le même travail d'émerveillement que ses modèles, grâce à sa direction artistique à couper le souffle et sa bande-originale parfaite pour l'aventure. Si les combats sont engageants et poussent le joueur à réfléchir à chaque affrontement, ils tendent à allonger la bonne dynamique du titre. C'est surtout par le manque d'évolution de gameplay pour les personnages que les joueurs pourront trouver une certaine lassitude. Si Sea of Stars n'est donc pas autant révolutionnaire que ses maîtres spirituels en leur époque, il devrait tout de même avoir une place de choix sur une étagère de votre ludothèque en 2023. Il risque bien de s'imposer comme le jeu indépendant de l'année si Silksong reste discret voire prétendre à des prix à la concurrence bien plus féroce. Plus qu'une belle performance pour un ovni venu des années 90.

Agatha Christie - Hercule Poirot: The London Case è un gioco narrativo e adventure piacevole, ma migliorabile. Il più grande peccato è che sotto vari punti di vista è un passo indietro rispetto al precedente capitolo, perlopiù per scelte di design e presentazione non sempre azzeccate. La storia è densa di svolte e si è sempre in dubbio sull'innocenza o sulla colpevolezza di tutti i personaggi, ma il ritmo in alcune fasi cala un po' troppo e l'ambientazione non convince appieno. Se il precedente capitolo vi è piaciuto non sarete delusi da The London Case, ma le novità saranno la parte meno interessante. Se invece The First Cases non faceva per voi, difficile che cambierete idea con questo gioco.

Sea of Stars is an amazing-looking and sounding title that has captured all you love from classic turn-based RPGs and improved upon it. I can’t recommend this game enough; this is how you modernise and pay tribute to a classic genre!

La filosofia produttiva di Sea of Stars può essere descritta con un unico verbo, un unico imperativo categorico: "sfrondare". Come un giardiniere che osserva un albero e sceglie quali rami potare, così Sabotage Studio ha studiato i JRPG del passato per conservarne gli elementi migliori e tagliare via quelli ormai obsoleti. Via i combattimenti casuali, via quell'ingombrante inventario pieno di oggetti mai utilizzati, via l'ossessione per il grinding; si accolgono innesti felici come il sistema di Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, basato sul tempismo e capace di mantenere alto il coinvolgimento del giocatore anche nei confronti dei nemici base, un elemento da padroneggiare al meglio delle proprie possibilità in occasione delle feroci battaglie contro i boss. Lo spettro della ripetitività è in larga parte esorcizzato, ma due protagonisti di singolare piattezza e un range di abilità fin troppo ridotto diminuiscono leggermente la qualità dell'esperienza, senza riuscire però a intaccare un prodotto divertente, magnifico da vedere, da ascoltare, da vivere. Non ci sono scuse per non provare Sea of Stars, disponibile al lancio sia su Game Pass che su PS Plus (e, nonostante questo, ben 100.000 copie del gioco sono state già acquistate). E come è dolce naufragare in questo mare di stelle.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central encaja a la perfección en Nintendo Switch. Sus frenéticos y coloridos modos de juego son el ingrediente perfecto para una tarde con amigos, y aunque echo de menos modos de juego para jugar con un solo par de Joy-Con, si todos tus amigos traen los mandos tienes por delante horas y horas de diversión y risas.

Fang finds comfort in what she cares about the most, both her talent in song and those that have her back. Considering the choices you may make, these two factors always remain at the forefront, and it’s a life lesson we can all take away from it as we look upon our own society as it stands. It could have been broader in its tale, perhaps even a little longer, but I enjoyed watching Fang’s story unfold. Despite Goodbye Volcano High’s technical limitations in places, I’m sure many others looking for a chill but reflective story of love (worm) drama will too.

Goodbye Volcano High executes solidly on its unique concept, delivering well-etched characters, engaging rhythm challenges, and a collection of memorable original tunes. That said, those looking for juicy high school intrigue will be disappointed, as the game is relentlessly nice, to the point it often lacks drama. We may not know exactly what finished off the dinosaurs, but Goodbye Volcano High comes close to killing itself with kindness.

Goodbye Volcano High è una storia di affermazione personale, amicizia e amore e di come tutte queste cose, già grandi se prese singolarmente, diventino dei colossi quando si mischiano assieme. Nonostante la premessa iniziale dell’ambientazione possa sembrare bizzarra, la qualità della scrittura e delle interpretazioni dei doppiatori (Lachlan Watson nel ruolo di Fang su tutti) annullano qualsiasi distanza tra il giocatore e i personaggi fin dalle primissime battute. Aiutata da meccaniche di gioco molto intelligenti, la storia progredisce con forza affermando l’identità dei suoi protagonisti pur permettendo al giocatore di metterci il proprio zampino, mentre la colonna sonora (che è finita dritta dritta tra i miei preferiti in loop) è ben più di un accompagnamento: è una co-protagonista, che racchiude in sé ansie, paure e sogni di questa sgangherata combriccola di amici, alle prese nientemeno che con l’apocalisse.

Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy is an incredible amalgamation of everything the series has done so far, and produces not only the best Trine game yet, but also one of the most enjoyable games I’ve played this year. The freedom we’re granted with the tools on offer is excellent, and combined with stunning presentation, this make Trine 5 utterly essential playing in my eyes.
