Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty sembra quasi uno spin-off di Nioh, da cui ricicla gran parte degli asset e da cui copincolla candidamente gran parte dei sistemi di gioco. Le aggiunte più di rilievo sono il sistema di morale, le stregonerie e la barra dello spirito (a sua volta del tutto simile alla postura già vista in Sekiro), che tutto sommato funzionano alla grande e riescono anche a garantire una buona varietà all'avventura. Team Ninja deve però guardare oltre e sperimentare qualcosa di nuovo, perché è da sei anni che continua a propinarci sostanzialmente lo stesso gioco di base, con piccole e non così rilevanti migliorie.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a solid successor to the Nioh series that manages to carve out its own identity, but it’s not without flaws. Parrying is satisfying and combat in general is a high point, but linearity and some poor bosses hold it back from being truly memorable. However, you’ll still have a good time if you go into this with the right expectations — and the PC version gets the fixes it needs.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dark fantasy take on the Three Kingdoms. The difficulty is high, almost seeming insurmountable at first, but part of what makes Wo Long great is how the difficulty isn’t unfair. The gameplay is structured where players are rewarded for learning the fighting style of their enemies and using their mastery of their own skills against them. It can be frustrating and requires patience to master, but it’s such a great feeling to finally overcome a strong adversary. Challenge alone does not make a game great, but Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty excels in every area from artistic design to gameplay mechanics. Watching nameless warrior execute their different moves is akin to a ballet of brutality. The gameplay mechanics are are smooth and responsive as the game is challenging, making it a joy to invest the time in mastering the battle system. This isn’t the Three Kingdoms setting we were expecting, but it is the Three Kingdoms game we needed.

Horizon Call of the Mountain Giudicare Horizon Call of the Mountain utilizzando lo stesso metro di paragone di un gioco flat, come purtroppo hanno fatto molti colleghi, è non soltanto sbagliato ma anche ingiusto. Horizon Call of The Mountain non è un open world come le sue controparti “flat”, ha un combat system estremamente semplificato e una longevità limitata, eppure nell’attuale panorama dei giochi VR è sicuramente uno dei titoli più importanti non soltanto per l’importante IP a cui appartiene. Pur rimanendo ben distante per quanto riguarda la scala di valori e l'expertise, da quel capolavoro assoluto che è Half Life: Alyx, Horizon Call of the Mountain è la dimostrazione che si può realizzare un’ottima tripla A accessibile ad un vasto pubblico e allo stesso tempo estremamente divertente. Più che parlare di occasione sprecata o di aspettative disattese, Scars Above è un gioco che rispecchia in pieno i valori produttivi che attualmente Mad Head Games è in grado di offrire. Lo sparatutto in terza persona ad ambientazione Sci-Fi lascia a desiderare nella forma ma non troppo nel contenuto, proponendo un gameplay che va oltre la sufficienza e che ruota interamente attorno ad armi elementali ed effetti di stato da applicare ai nemici, a cui va aggiunto un buon sistema di progressione e alcune dinamiche di gameplay funzionali ma non così originali. Tutto il resto, dall’impianto narrativo al comparto grafico, mostra diverse lacune che nemmeno l’impegno profuso dallo studio di sviluppo serbo è riuscito a colmare.

Scars Above è un titolo che ha tanti difetti e pochi pregi. Sicuramente le meccaniche da third-person-shooter sono azzeccate ma, ad esempio, i combattimenti all’arma bianca sono letteralmente inguardabili. La storia che gira intorno al titolo non colpisce particolarmente e presenta qualche problematica, con il villain principale scritto in maniera non ottimale. Per non parlare dell’Art Direction che, nonostante sia gradevole da vedere, risulta poco ispirata e non dà la percezione di esplorare un pianeta sconosciuto. Insomma, Scars Above è un progetto che avrebbe potuto dare molto, ma molto di più, ma purtroppo le scelte apportate al gioco sono risultate veramente poco azzeccate ed entusiasmanti, almeno la maggior parte.

Le ambientazioni ispirate e l’elemento tattico alla base del gunplay sono certamente apprezzabili ma non riescono a far superare i confini della sufficienza a Scars Above. Molti degli errori e delle leggerezze si devono alla gioventù dello studio di sviluppo, che è stato comunque in grado di definire una lore credibile e approfondita e un intreccio completo ma non pienamente soddisfacente. Se avete una passione smodata per lo spazio e il cinema di fantascienza, potreste prendere in considerazione l’idea di accompagnare Kate nel suo viaggio ma, in caso contrario, i motivi che dovrebbero spingervi a provarlo si riducono notevolmente.

Despite the simplicity and a few missteps, I actually quite liked the roughly seven hours I spent playing through Scars Above. The story was interesting, the environments were diverse and lovely to look at and the sound design and music were sensational. I’d describe this as something akin to a refreshed PlayStation 2-era sci-fi shooter rather than a contemporary title, but I say that with a fondness for it, rather than disdain. I think that Mad Head Games should be proud of what it’s achieved, and if third-person shooters are your thing, I’d encourage you to check it out.

El resultado final es un juego que se deja jugar y anima a completar las 10 horas que nos ha llevado terminarlo, pero que dista mucho de alcanzar la maestría en su propuesta. Localizadores que marean y pierden más que ayudar, objetos perdidos por el mapeado de forma que parece aleatoria y unos puzzles basados casi tan solo en la exploración completan una fórmula que no pasa de resultona y que aunque he llegado a disfrutar en algunos momentos, me ha dejado con ganas de terminar la aventura y pasar a jugar a otra cosa. Ojo, no digo que sea una mala propuesta pero en un momento como éste en el que tenemos el calendario lleno de grandes lanzamientos, Scars Above no deja de ser un juego entretenido que tira de elementos conocidos para formular su oferta de juego.

Cette nouvelle extension arrivera à vous en mettre plein la vue graphiquement. Bungie nous montre encore une fois son savoir-faire dans le gameplay et le game design, mais le manque d'ambition à rajouter de nouvelles activités se fera sentir. Bien qu'un nouveau raid soit sorti le 10 mars et deux donjons prévus plus tard. Le studio, pourrait-il proposer mieux au cours de l'année et avec les futurs contenus et le soutien de Sony, nous verrons bien. Rappelons que cette extension est vendue 49.99 € dans sa version de base fournie avec la saison 20 et 99.99 € dans sa version deluxe. Un tarif de plus en plus élevé, mais pas dans le contenu proposé.

Scars Above offers a great shooter experience that's a bit rough around the edges in some areas when it comes to realizing its vision and potential. While these problems are noticeable, I don't feel like it takes too much from the full product while offering a haunting survival horror experience with a unique gimmick that makes players think about the best approach to the way they face the environment around the enemies.

Deliver us Mars persiste et signe dans bon nombre de déboires constatés chez son grand frère Deliver us The Moon. Fort d’une narration menée de bout en bout et cohérente pour les connaisseurs de l’histoire narrée dans le premier volet, le jeu propose tout de même des nouveautés appréciables pour varier son approche : escalade, plus aucune séquence sous oxygène, davantage d’énigmes environnementales (bien que certaines trop simples) etc. On regrettera toutefois le manque de soin apporté à la modélisation des visages, la synchronisation labiale, à certaines textures en gros plans ainsi qu’aux fréquentes chutes de framerate qui viennent entacher à plusieurs occasions l’expérience. Que des pistes d’améliorations donc, pour un studio qui nous montre qu’il maîtrise sa narration, mais qui doit encore faire de réels et profonds efforts en ce qui concerne la réalisation pour son prochain titre.
