On the track, Smurfs Kart pulls off a surprisingly solid imitation of Mario Kart, with satisfying handling and some wonderful visuals (albeit at 30fps). In the grand leaderboard of Switch karting games, it’s not quite going to trouble the podium places, but it’s certainly lingering just behind the front-runners and definitely delivers an entertaining time, even if it’s as short as its subject matter. A lack of courses is what keeps it from being one of the very best karting games on the Switch, but they certainly haven't Smurfed this one up.

Au fil des années, la franchise Let's Sing est devenu le FIFA du karaoké, avec une large mise à jour des effectifs qui aurait sans doute gagné à évoluer par rapport aux éditions précédentes. Ce n'est malheureusement pas le cas, et les défauts des éditions précédentes se retrouvent à l'identique dans cette version 2023. On espère désormais une véritable prise de conscience pour tenter de corriger le tir, ou l'arrivée d'un concurrent qui forceraient les développeurs à nous proposer une expérience de jeu plus moderne et originale.

Somerville follows its own unique path within the puzzle-adventure genre. That path isn’t always a smooth one, with camera annoyances and physics wonkiness occasionally serving as a pebble in your shoe while solving its series of pleasantly challenging puzzles, and the story is more strange for the sake of being strange than it is thought-provoking. But thanks to its strong visual storytelling techniques and the way the opening minutes inspire an irresistible desire to find out what happened to this man and whether or not he’ll ever find his family, Somerville is nevertheless a very good tour through an exceptionally bleak scenario – all of which is successfully conveyed without a single line of dialogue.

As an engrossing 15 to 20-hour adventure game, a chronicle of a small town and its people in turbulent times, a reverent celebration of the finer details of Late Medieval history, and a clever detective story in which straight answers are hard to come by – Pentiment is a clear champion. My gripes about it are all relatively minor, and I look forward to playing it at least once or twice more to explore roads not taken. It never suffers for its simplicity, lacking in combat or traditional puzzles, because of how effectively it tangled me up in the complexities of its gorgeously-realized world and made me want to learn all I could about its people and its past. There isn't much more to say about Pentiment, other than I can hardly recommend it highly enough.

Pentiment is a true achievement of marrying story, style, and theme into a magical and cohesive whole. In lieu of 3D graphics that try too hard and still fail to represent an authentic-feeling world, Obsidian’s artists opted for a more illustrative aesthetic to tell their gripping story of a murder in an abbey, a choice that resonates throughout the entire game. While it might not satisfy every player, especially those expecting a more traditional RPG or adventure experience, those who can immerse themselves in Pentiment’s vision of 16th century Bavaria will find one of the best games of the year.

Obsidian Entertainment guarda alla storia europea con rispetto e tanto, tanto studio. “Studio” vuol dire innanzitutto impegno, passione, entusiasmo. Vuol dire amore, e di amore, in Pentiment, ce n’è tantissimo. Ben bilanciato nella durata e curatissimo dal punto di vista estetico, Pentiment cade sul ritmo della fase mediana dell’avventura e inserisce minigiochi spesso evitabili per mantenere alta l’attenzione dei giocatori, in realtà ben stimolata dalle limitazioni temporali delle indagini e dalla necessità di fare scelte dotate di profonde ripercussioni per tutta la comunità di Tassing. Chiamati a riflettere sul contrasto tra tradizione e innovazione, sul peso intollerabile imposto dal potere temporale e religioso sulle fasce più povere della società e sul continuo confronto con la morte per coloro che vissero a cavallo tra Medioevo e inizi dell’Età Moderna, i giocatori che cercano una storia avvincente e piena di spunti di riflessioni troveranno pane per i loro denti nell’avventura di Andreas Maler. La disponibilità di Pentiment fin dal lancio su Game Pass potrà incentivare anche chi normalmente non ama le avventure narrative a dare una chance all’ottimo lavoro firmato da Josh Sawyer e da Obsidian Entertainment, che aggiunge una gemma di grande valore alla corona di Xbox Game Studios e alla sua luminosa carriera.

È vero, a Microsoft mancano giochi di richiamo, quelle esclusive che fanno girare la testa con la loro grafica e il loro valore produttivo, ma attenzione: permettere di sviluppare giochi come questi, avere dei team in grado di concepirli e svilupparli, non è meno importante. Pentiment è un'esperienza unica che saprà conquistare tutti i videogiocatori che amano ancora vivere belle storie col ritmo di una penna, come quella immaginaria che nel gioco traccia le lettere di ogni dialogo. Esplorare Tassen e i suoi misteriosi dintorni, apprenderne i segreti più reconditi e tracciare il destino delle famiglie del villaggio, è un'esperienza impossibile da non consigliare. La durata media dovrebbe attestarsi intorno alle trenta ore, ma se vi lascerete rapire dal suo mondo e ne usufruirete proprio come un libro magico, questo numero può persino raddoppiare. Menzione particolare per la traduzione in italiano, non facile eppure davvero ben fatta.
