Peggle is pure happiness distilled into a low-cost digital download. More puzzles and challenges would have been nice, but it's hard to complain about the way this port to the Live Arcade was handled. Peggle may be a casual game at heart, but it can hook you like few other games. Don't let the bright colors turn you off, no matter how hardcore you think you are. This is one that everyone can enjoy.

In the end, calling this a "rebirth" or even a "reboot" just doesn’t cut it. If one looks hard enough, they can see the ambitions SNK had with this game, sadly outstripped by time and budget. This was likely a no-win situation for the company, and the release of so many high-profile fighting games over the past year did it no favors. As a release, this is botched beyond belief. As a fighting game, it’s just barely playable, provided users take large concessions. Normally I’d recommend that only the most diehard of King of Fighters fans pick this one up... but I have a feeling that said fanbase will be the ones disappointed the most.

Age of Booty is an addictive multiplayer strategy game that rewards communication and teamwork, both of which proved impossible during my time with the PC version due to a broken online matchmaking system. Bide your time until Capcom provides a patch to fix the online multi. The single-player game serves mainly as a tutorial for the multiplayer and isn’t enough to serve as a standalone experience. So to sum up, Age of Booty was designed as a multiplayer online game and doesn’t work as such right now. If that changes soon, give it a try.

»Flugsimulation«? Hahaha! Nein, ernsthaft: Mit einer Simulation hat HAWX etwa so viel zu tun wie ein Schnabeltier mit Gehirnchirurgie. Okay, man befindet sich in einem Cockpit, hoch über den Wolken, aber der spielerische Anspruch wäre derselbe, wenn man keinen Steuerknüppel, sondern ein Schrotgewehr in den Händen hätte. HAWX ist ein unterhaltsamer, spaßiger und sehr unkomplizierter Arcade-Shootout mit schnellen Erfolgen und dank gigantischem Raketen-Kontingent gut krachender Action. Allerdings geht mir der Mangel an Anspruch gegen den Strich; das ERS ist das hiesige Äquivalent zu Prince of Persias Elika: Es macht das Spiel irre leicht, jeder untrainierte Schimpanse kriegt damit perfekte Abschüsse und effiziente Ausweichmanöver hin. Und was der aufgezwungene Perspektivenwechsel im OFF-Modus soll, hat sich mir auch nach dem Durchspielen (was sehr schnell geht) nicht erschlossen – die Fokussierung auf das Ziel hat in Blazing Angels weitaus besser funktioniert, die nicht verstellbare Außenansicht macht es hier schwer, sich auf ein Ziel auszurichten. Und so ansehnlich die Satellitenbilder auch sind, gerade in Sachen Schlachtfeld-Inszenierung hat HAWX keine Chance gegen Ace Combat 6 – von der öde präsentierten Story ganz zu schweigen. Schlussendlich bleibt ein Spiel, das einige großartige Momente hat. Ein Großteil der Zeit verliert sich jedoch in unterhaltsamen, aber dennoch generischen »Hole soundso viele Gegner aus der Luft!«-Aufträgen, die man immerhin auch kooperativ angehen kann.

Major League Baseball 2K9 fixes some of the issues from the past and sets the groundwork for a great game, but there are far too many bugs to recommend. PC gaming once had a strong hold on baseball sim quality, but those days are clearly long past. MLB 2K9 is an enjoyable game for a casual fan, but those who are really dedicated to baseball are certain to find the bad AI annoying. Let's hope next year 2K Sports can deliver a game worthy of baseball's immense fan base.

Deux personnages attachants, des niveaux bien construits et intéressants, un univers rafraîchissant, un concept qui s'il n'a rien de novateur, se laisse savourer avec bonheur, voilà ce qui constitue la base de ce petit jeu dont la plupart d'entre nous n'attendaient sans doute pas grand-chose. Aussi, pourquoi ne pas prendre quelques secondes et télécharger la démo ? Peut-être aurez-vous alors plaisir à crapahuter quelques heures en compagnie de ces Laurel et Hardy de l'espace.

Now, let me be clear, that’s not all to say F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin isn’t fun or that it’s not well-made. It is certainly both, but I defy anyone to remember anything other than a few moments of this game in 6 months time (and I’m not talking about the abrupt, WTF ending). Sure, there’s fun to be had shooting baddies in the face for 10-12 hours over the course of the 14 missions, but sadly F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin isn’t nearly as remarkable as the original.

Resident Evil 5 non è il capolavoro universale che tutti si aspettavano. Non rinnova la serie né tanto meno definisce nuovi canoni per il genere d'appartenenza. La ripresa di meccaniche ludiche compassate unite ad una maggior vocazione action lo lasciano in una sorta di limbo ludico, a metà tra un action game puro (di cui gli manca la dinamicità) e un survival horror (di cui manca una certa spinta emotiva). Nonostante ciò alcuni innegabili pregi, da ricercarsi soprattutto nello sfavillante comparto grafico e nella varietà d'azione conferita dall'inserimento del partner, dai numerosi intermezzi interattivi (leggasi QTE) e dagli stupefacenti boss di fine livello, rendono la produzione Capcom piacevole, godibile e sicuramente d'impatto per il mass market. Non dimentichiamo poi l'importanza del comparto online, un valore aggiunto -assieme ai molti contenuti segreti sbloccabili- alla longevità -altrimenti solo mediocre- dell'opera. Sebbene non sia una pietra miliare immancabile in tutte le ludoteche Resident Evil 5 risulta comunque un acquisto consigliato agli appassionati della serie (che finalmente vedranno trarre molte, se non tutte, le conclusioni) nonché una gradevole esperienza, magari a prezzo ridotto, per tutti gli altri. E' infine chiaro il bisogno di un radicale rinnovamento: questo quinto capitolo rappresenta la chiusura di un ciclo, incapace, in questa generazione, di offrire le stesse grandi soddisfazioni del glorioso passato.

Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars isn't all bad, as its simplified gameplay and toned-down difficulty likely made it a favorite of some of the youngest Master System players back in the late '80s. But today it simply stands as a disappointment, and the mark of the moment when SEGA's Master System mascot, in just his second appearance on the system, began to go downhill fast. In his recent retro review of the game, our Retro channel editor Levi Buchanan (a huge Alex Kidd fan) even declared that he wished this game wouldn't come to the Virtual Console -- for fear of it spoiling the opinions of new fans who found the series through the VC release of the far superior Miracle World. I'll support his assessment, and recommend steering clear of this one. If you're spending 500 Wii Points on an Alex Kidd adventure, make it Miracle World. Don't waste your time on The Lost Stars.

All things considered, Mario Power Tennis Wii is a stripped down version of a five year old game. It alienates the hardcore by implementing an overly simplistic control scheme and offers nothing new by way of mini games or additional content to make it worthwhile. It’s essentially Wii Sports Tennis with a fresh coat of Mario-themed paint, which at this point is just not enough to warrant a purchase.
