New Tales of the Borderlands est un nouvel épisode… moyen. Bien en dessous de son prédécesseur du même genre, il nous fait passer un agréable moment, mais son scénario brouillon et ses mini-jeux répétitifs et rapides plombent un peu l’ensemble. Il comporte un bon début, une bonne fin, mais ce qui gravite au milieu est très inégal et manque de finition au niveau du gameplay. Gearbox a tenté de faire du TellTales pur et simple, et on voit bien que ce n’est pas leur spécialité. Les personnages sont sympathiques, mais loin du charisme de Fiona ou Rhyse. Plus qu’à essayer de spéculer et théoriser sur quelle histoire portera Borderlands 4.

New Tales From The Borderlands is op zich een waardige opvolger voor diens voorganger. In een vijftal episodes met een totaalduur van tien uren zullen spelers wederom heel wat charismatische personages ontdekken en hun avonturen beleven. De conclusie laat echter wat te wensen over en soms geven de vele keuzeopties ook niet veel resultaat, terwijl de simplistische gameplay hier en daar ook wat roet in het eten gooit, maar over het algemeen zullen de meeste fans of liefhebbers van het genre dit geheel voldoende weten te smaken.

As stated in the opening, New Tales from the Borderlands doesn’t top the amazement of the original game. That still doesn’t stop it from delivering an impressive adventure game in its own right, however, filled with an enjoyable story about family, a lot of great bits of comedy, a deeper look into different parts of the Borderlands universe, and of course, the sheer joy that is L0U13. New Tales from the Borderlands ends up being a mostly worthy successor to one of the all-time greats…now here’s hoping we just don’t have to wait another seven years for a sequel.

Al netto di un’eccessiva linearità e di qualche incertezza nel gameplay, Batora Lost Haven è un’avventura piacevole che tiene incollati i giocatori allo schermo, desiderosi di scoprire come si concluderà l’epica storia di Avril in giro per la galassia. Il viaggio dell’eroina proveniente dalla Terra è costellato di ingegnosi enigmi, pericolosi nemici e scelte difficili, che possono essere vissute per intero grazie a una seconda partita in New Game Plus, la quale garantisce qualche ora di gioco in più e permette senza troppi problemi di completare il gioco al 100%.

Gotham Knights Gotham Knights è un titolo che probabilmente senza la pesante eredità lasciata dal Batman: Arkham Knight, sarebbe risultato più godibile e ben fatto. Questo dovuto ad una realizzazione tecnica non eccelsa per i tempi e le piattaforme che corrono, nonché ad un combattimento che avrebbe dovuto risultare un perfezionamento di quello del suo predecessore, piuttosto che quasi un passo indietro in termini di fluidità ed adrenalina. Perso l'impareggiabile carisma di Batman, ma guadagnata la varietà caratteriale e tecnica dei nuovi quattro protagonisti, la produzione di WB Games Montréal offre comunque una Gotham piena di cose da fare. Customizzazione molto divertente dei personaggi, Villain efferatamente stravaganti, contribuiscono a far crescere il monte ore fino all'end game in maniera quasi sempre piacevole ed appagante. Gotham Knights is the type of game you so dearly want to love, but time and time again it gives you a reason not to. What Warner Bros. Games Montreal has here is an excellent story with top-notch cutscene direction and a fun combat system, with too many needless and confusing mechanics bolted on top. If you can look past them, there's a genuinely great game here. We recommend trying your best to do so; you'll find a compelling narrative on the other side.

New Tales from the Borderlands non ci ha profondamente impressionati e crediamo che un seguito così atteso avrebbe meritato qualcosa di più. Il risultato finale è un gioco piacevole, che sa strappare anche più di una risata ma che non appassiona quando diventa più serio e drammatico. Dispiace anche che Gearbox abbia fatto solo mezzo tentativo di ampliare il lato ludico con dei minigiochi troppo semplici. Non è un brutto gioco, come già detto, ma non è il capolavoro che alcuni speravano.

Le cycle semble se répéter, un peu comme le problème majeur de Borderlands 3 est la comparaison avec le 2, New Tales from the Borderlands se heurte au parallèle avec le jeu de Telltale. Des efforts ont clairement été faits au niveau de l’incarnation des personnages et de l’interactivité de l’histoire (quitte à se faire au détriment de la rejouabilité) mais tout ceci est mis au service d’une aventure peu mémorable. Le nouveau cast n’arrive pas à s’imposer ce qui est d’autant plus dommage quand les têtes connues ne sont même pas là pour leur faire de l’ombre. Le jeu n’a ni fan service ni utilisation intéressante de l’univers pour lui apporter quelque chose de neuf, tout en restant trop ancré dans Borderlands ce qui risque donc mettre à mal à la fois les amateurs de la saga mais aussi ceux de jeux narratifs.
